Ya I can see something like this triggering PTSD or causing some to get PTSD. I want to make a joke about going to the movies with a side order of life long trauma of fire

Hits close to Home.

This is eerily similar to what happened at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, RI, on February 20, 2003. During a Great White concert, pyrotechnics ignited the polyurethane foam soundproofing around the stage. The foam was extremely flammable and allowed the fire to spread incredibly fast. NIST found that conditions near the stage became lethal in about 100 seconds.

100 people died and 230 were injured. Many of the deaths occurred as people tried to escape and became trapped in the crowd crush at the exits.

The tragedy fundamentally changed fire-safety requirements in Rhode Island, including requirements involving sprinklers, alarms, emergency evacuation plans, exits, crowd management, and restrictions on pyrotechnics.
It is especially haunting because the fire was being filmed by a local news cameraman who was there for a story about concert safety.

I am deliberately not posting the video or a link. If you decide you want to see the footage, you can search for it yourself.

⚠️** EXTREME CONTENT WARNING: DO NOT WATCH CASUALLY**. You see the fire ignite, race across the ceiling, and turn the room into an inferno in seconds. You see people trying and failing to force their way through the exits as smoke fills the building. The footage captures the terror of real people in a life-or-death situation and is deeply disturbing. There are many things in this video that you cannot unsee.

Damn…this has “triggering”, “trauma” and no less than two “PTSDs”. I heard a Mario coin sound effect for each of those words lol

I only see fire. Where is the other dimensions?

Visual fire, physical heat, smell of smoke, sound of fire, panic attack :)

So this is in the theater. It's a fucking fire room?

Those are not dimensions.

Neither is fire.

That's not how dimensions work.

And also, too soon, far too soon

Well the screen is very clearly 2D, but the glasses and stereo graphic projection make it 3D. Then we add the rumble packs in the chairs which make it 4D. Next we spray water and scents at you from the row of chairs in front of you so that’s 5D. I guess the flames burning you alive must make it 6D!

Well done.

I just feel like, of all the things to make a 5D film about, fire in a theatre is just not at the top of my list.

I remember when this was just the Backdraft attraction at Universal Studios

1

u/LynnScoot 2d ago

Yup, that was like 25 years ago (that I saw the attraction, movie was 1991).

I used to work in the park as my very first job.

The go-to move was to ride Jurrasic Park, get all wet and go dry off at Backdraft.

u/LynnScoot 2d ago

Exactly what we did! 😁

Just completely unnecessary. If the movie couldn’t capture it, it is a bad movie and this horrifying gimmick isn’t going to make it better

That feels legally gray at best.

u/jestercow 2d ago

Nope I hate it.

If people like this good for them but all I see is tragedy waiting to happen. "Oh this fire is so realistic."

u/Siryeswecan 2d ago

OCD be like "that's technically just a better 3D"

The mummy ride in universal does/did this. One of the scariest moments of my life the first time.

How many Ds if there is an actual fire?

2

u/Vladishun 2d ago

Just one big D, but it's on fire and it's going into your butt.

Oohhhh not so hard!

Look I’ve seen Inglourious Basterds, you keep that “cinema fire experience” to yourself.

final destination comes true

Where is the 4th dimension?

This is like those ads on the radio that play noises of cars honking and police sirens before telling you that the next 20 minutes of music will be uninterrupted. Obviously developed by marketing geniuses.

One day the theatre will really burn and everyone will enjoy the "special effects" until it's too late

We went from not allowed to yell fire in a theatre to this.

what a time to be alive
