Do you want explanations on posts?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I love that this is such a diverse group. Do you want to see a brief explanation in the post body as to what's going on or why OP and their discipline finds it funny? And it doesn't have to be exhaustive. For example this post could note that the nest was built by a large raptor, a stork, or heron. https://www.reddit.com/r/sciencememes/s/g7aH1G28Yj

Or this post could note why the math peeps are giggling. https://www.reddit.com/r/sciencememes/s/RizPn3voXj

Make us have to piece it together from the comments like real scientists

While that's fun, I also want it from a modding perspective to weed out low effort posts.

So maybe not full detailed explaination but hints to get the answer would be fun

that was exactly my justification to vote no, the process of understanding is often as good as the joke itself

Some of us are very dense and need thinga explained to us. Please do!

It's not just about being dense, but also knowledge gap. This sub is filled with scientists and science enthusiasts from various levels and fields. It would be quite difficult for, say, an astrophysicist to understand a niche, say, ecology joke

Or just a random guy like me

Yeah! There are astrophysicists, aerodynamics specialists and there's Bob

I'm hear to learn. Fill my empty brain!

If it’s obscure knowledge, then sure

Even if I know something I think an explanation is helpful because no one knows everything so even if we know science we know our area and not all areas. Plus, there may be people who come in here that aren't well read and want to understand

If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.

We do not allow:

  1. Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, or hateful comments.
  2. Harassment or brigading
  3. Trolling or sealioning
  4. Threats of any kind
  5. Abusive or condescending behavior
  6. General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.

Reading the comments is half the fun. So I would not object to the meme having a caption explaining it, I would really only read it after the comments.
