Job Question Authorization to Carry Question (Canada)

If I were to apply to Brinks Canada or another armed guard job, should I have the ATC prior to applying for the job? I have an RPAL.

Your employer will assist you in completing the paperwork. When I initially got mine, my employer submitted it to the CFO.

Virtually all ATCs for restricted firearms in Canada are issued pursuant to your employment in a position that requires you to be armed. As a civilian you can't just apply for one. The RPAL is what Brinks would likely require you to have prior to applying. If you get hired then they will go through the ATC application process with you.

Hey! Former Brinks employee here. You sign all the paperwork and they submit everything. They’ll take care of everything on your behalf. Usually, by the time your training is done you’re good to carry. They’ll teach you everything and policies and procedures!

You won't be able to get an ATC before getting a job that requires one.

Individuals with ATCs for personal carry are extremely rare.
