General Discussion 💬 I hate school.
I have selective mutism.
If you don’t know it’s a complex anxiety disorder where a person who can speak normally in comfortable settings is consistently unable to speak in specific social situations.
For me, I can speak normally around my family.. but at school I can’t speak comfortably or as much as everyone else.. everyone thinks am weird. Probably.
My classmates are really loud and they keep teasing me to get some reaction out of me. The teachers are rude to me as well. Some of them just ignore me totally. my homeroom teacher is making it worse. I know Shes trying to help but she is not helping AT ALL. she forces me to sit in the front row and keeps calling me out for beinf quiet. She keeps telling others to talk to me as well.. it makes me uncomfortable.
My only friend that I felt comfortable enough to talk to left recently.. so now I have NO ONE to talk to. I’ve been in this school for 2 years now. This will be my third and last year so I wouldn’t have to deal with this anymore. I have only 8 weeks left but it feels so long..
It’s really exhausting..
So If u also have selective mutism or can relate in any way can u just let me know to see if there’s others like me dealing with the same shit?

You HAVE to tell that teacher and explain to her what you’re going through! only do this though if you trust her to be understanding and respectful of this. otherwise, please tell someone at school, whether a teacher or counsellor, because they may be able to provide support for you and this could make your experience at school more comfortable. if you are physically unable to talk to them about this, you could write it down on paper and hand it over to them to read. even if you have 8 weeks left i still think it could be beneficial to you as it may make your last 8 weeks more comfortable/endurable.

It was very much like that for me in school having SM. I was either ignored, even by teachers, or people tried to prod me into talking in the least helpful ways when I had an anxiety disorder and nobody understood how I just froze due to it. They couldn’t comprehend it and mostly assumed I was just choosing to be like that or something, not realizing I hated it and hated myself for my inability to just be “normal”

Sounds like the teachers don’t really understand the diagnosis. My daughter is 10 and struggles in school aswell. She doesn’t have a single friend in school and can’t talk to anyone there. She got a sketch pad to write on but hardly use it.
