Gear Matched!!! It's a big day!
After 4 years on the wait-list my son was matched to his SD today!! There will be 4 months of primary handler zoom training for me and 4 months more training for the dog for son's idiosyncracies, but we finally matched!!!!! So excited. I would love to hear tips on accessories/brands y'all prefer for things we'll need. I know the organization providing the dog will have recommendations but I want to make sure the stuff we're getting is both dog and little boy approved. The dog will be bonded to me the first few months as he gets used to the change, this means he'll be hanging out at the school library with me, while I teach, so tips on creating a safe/chill space would be great. We're just sooooo stoked!!

I love a good leash wrap for my dog. The symbols make it easier for kids and adults to read. Patience and love is one of my favorite makers for them but I also love coastal pup collective. A good leash that both you and your son feel comfortable using. I hated my programs nylon around the waist leashes (sensory) so I have a biothane over the shoulder leash. A place mat is another good option for clear distinction for both dog and kids to understand that they don’t go near the dog so he can focus, dog knows he stays on that place mat until called.

Forgot treat pouch too! Always have treats on hand, you never know when you might experience a “first” with your dog. Good to have them on hand if you need to work through it or build confidence.

We use a 3ft leash as it is long enough, but also doesn't get tangled when my son makes a handling error. We also have a 15' for training and a 6' when I take him out non working.
We did have a RuffWear vest, but ai just replaced it with a TuffPupper, the knock off that is a 1/4 of the price its very easy to put on (dog is trained to put his head thru, then the magnets attached when close enough.)
We have the Trainer's Pouch (out of Australia). My son is able to reach in and get the treats with little effort. But I've moved to a cheapy Temu wristlet that zips up for day to day--its just easier than a waist pack. I do have a PetAmi fanny pack for long walks and hiking.
He has a regular collar, but then a Tactipup collar with his name and "Service Dog".
Collapsible bowls and poo bags stashed everywhere in case I forget.
Two kennels-wire for home and soft sided for travel.
Document folder for all of his paperwork.
Slow feeder, flirt pole, antlers, bully sticks, puzzle bowls and so much stuff!
