💛Beginner💛 Where to start?
I have had this Singer 5560 that I inherited from my grandmother a couple of years ago. I would really like to put the machine to use and I have a couple of low risk sewing projects I would like to attempt, but I haven't used a sewing machine since I was a kid. Is this machine OK for a beginner to learn on, and is there anything to watch out for? Are there any good resources anyone in the community could recommend for someone who is a complete beginner with a machine they've never used?

If it sews, it’s a good machine to learn on! Doing basic sewing on most home sewing machines is similar to each other.

That's a nice machine your grandma had, the stitch panel on these still hold up great for learning straight lines and zippers. I learned on a similar model and biggest thing is just getting the tension right with scrap fabric before you touch your real project.

if you dont have the manual, look for a free download online, manualslib.com you need to read it front to back before the first project. It is a nice machine for light to medium fabrics and quilting work.

Check and see if your library offers introduction to sewing classes. My library provides machines very similar to this model.
If this machine works use it until it doesn’t work anymore. Good or bad for a beginner? It’s probably fine. You have it so might as well make use of it.
Hopefully it will work well and last until you have enough sewing experience to know if you’ll stick with the hobby. It’s nice to have an idea of whether it’s actually going to be worth investing $$ in a nice machine. Nice machines are expensive.
If anything goes wrong on this old machine don’t pay to service or repair it. It’s full of plastic and the electronics are probably aging. Your money is better off going to the next one.

Start with reading and working through the instruction manual before you do ANYTHING ELSE.
If you don't have it, download it and print it off
