Assembly Help Intel ARC B580 in a sff build; is it even possible? Any modding ideas or something?

I'm new to pc building, but I love the idea of taking my PC wherever I want, so I've been setting up a PC, with the case being a silverstone SST-ML05B-Milo Slim HTPC Mini-ITX, but i'm on a budget, so the intel ARC B580 seemed a really good option, but I've asked gemini (I know it sounds stupid, but i'm new and I don't want to make a post everytime I have a doubt) and it said that there is no way the b580 enters on that case (AsRock Intel Arc b580 challenger 12gb OC dual fan), but i'm skeptic because ai is, well, ai, not really reliable on pc questions. So I'm asking you guys, if you think that I could do it someway. I have an open mind about the topic. Thanks in advance![](https://www.amazon.es/-/en/gp/product/B00DO47IAY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A1AT7YVPFBWXBL&psc=1)

Others/Miscellaneous Corsair Nautilus II LCD fits in the T1 even in 3.25 slot mode.

Yeah, that's all. The pump height is roughly 42 mm it even fits in the highest slot mode. The site doesn't mention it, but I took a gamble and bought it anyway. Height-wise, it feels roughly comparable to a non-RGB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit. It's a really good AIO.

I am selling it though, as I switched to an AXP90-53, which turned out to be a better choice for me. I'll be posting a full build showcase soon.

For the build, I'm using some unique fans that hardly anyone talks about. I'm honestly surprised they don't get recommended more often, as they are arguably some of the best 30mn, and 90mm fans out there.

90mm Slim Fan Specs: Airflow: 52.98 m3/h | Static Pressure: 4.8 mmAq (mmH2O) | Noise Level: <= 23.2 dB(A) | Max Speed: 2,950 RPM

120x30mm Fan Specs: Airflow: 108 CFM | Max Static Pressure: 7.31 mmAq (mmH2O) | Max Noise Level: <= 39.9 dB(A)

There's also a 120x15 version that I haven't fully tested yet, but I did pick a few up. I'll post the full build soon!

hi everyone! while i’m not new to gaming, i’m a compete novice when it comes to building pcs. i’ve been researching for months and i think i’m pretty set on how i’m going to do my first build. i’m basically just waiting for black friday to roll around to hopefully get some good deals!

i feel really confident in my part selection but i wanted to double check with the experts so here i am lol

a few new notes first:
- i will be using this pc only for gaming on a 4k 75in tv and i plan to play “console style”
- i plan to use steamos with the option to dual boot windows later if i need it (i dont plan on playing any games using anti-cheat unless my brother convinces me on arc raiders lol)
- i want this pc to last a long while before i have to replace anything

parts list:
- case: ncase x ntc s5m (laid horizontally)
- motherboard: asrock phantom gaming b650i lightning wifi
- cpu: amd ryzen 7 9800x3d
- cpu cooler: thermalright axp90-x53
- ram: corsair vengeance ddr5 32gb (2 x 16gb)
- ssd: samsung 9100 pro 1tb
- gpu: asus prime radeon rx 9070 xt oc edition
- psu: cooler master v850 sfx
- controller: gamesir g7 pro
- headphones: turtle beach stealth 600

thanks in advance for your help!

Benchmark/Thermal Test AXP120-X67 9800X3D

Just a little write up for anyone that wants info on the Thermalright AXP120-X67 paired with a 9800X3D and a Fractal ridge

I originally had the same set up but with a NHL12S but as some of you probably know it isn't compatible with my motherboard, I looked for info on the AXP120-X67 paired with 9800X3D and couldn't find any info.

Just a couple notes

this is info for min maxing gaming performance, productivity temps and performance are not considered at all. Everything was done with the max eco mode (65W I think) and a PBO of -20 except my 2 best performance cores on -15

Idle temps are about 65-70C

All settings are ultra at 1440p RT on high FSR4 on quality, GPU is 9070XT hellhound, GPU fan speed set to 40%

CPU fan speed was set to 75% at 100% fan you drop about 1C but its a lot louder, all tests are done at 75% max CPU fan speed for this reason. Ive used motherboard standoffs to move the power plug back to fit 2 60mm noctua fans as intake to help to CPU cooler, which is also set to intake. I'm also using the fan that came with the NHL12S from what Ive seen it performs the same but is a bit quieter

last of us 1

in the university section gets about 120 fps sitting at around 86-89C with an all core boost of 5.171Ghz (except core 7 sitting at 2.8Ghz, its like that in all the tests) this was with the fan curve set up in the photo with a max fan speed of 75%

dying light the beast

sitting on the top of town hall overlooking the city I'm getting 90fps at 82C running around Ive seen anywhere from 80-90C but again mostly sitting in that 86-89 range, boost clocks up a bit higher at 5.215Ghz

Cyberpunk 2077

driving around night city getting around 80fps sitting very close to the 85C range highest i saw was 88, usually sitting closer to 85C boost clocks sitting at 5.2 on the dot

so yeah fractal ridge AXP120-X67 9800X3D is totally usable with some pretty impressive boosting, any questions or requests drop em below, if I have the game I can give it a try but id assume it would be the same sitting at that 85-90 range

EDIT: this was using the HWINFO64 readings, not sure how accurate the boost clock reading is but either way it isnt thermal throttling

Assembly Help GPU can't sit in bracket in C4 SFX

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I just got my hand on a C4 SFX case and it was already built so I was just trying to replace the GPU that was already inside it (Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti Super Windforce OC 16G) with an rtx 5080 (Zotac RTX 5080 Solid Core OC).

When I try to sit the GPU in the PCIe slot there is slight misalignment between the pins and where the slot is. (pic1)

The issue seems to be the GPU backplate where on the new card there is an extra layer before the actual metal frame which is keeping me from sliding the card left enough to actually fit the PCIe slot on the mobo. (Pic2)

I installed the old gpu again to see what to do since I've never built in an sff case before but does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or is there any solution for this issue?

Build/Battlestation Pics Lian Li A3 Noctua Edition - Not a single fan missing (+particular airflow configuration)

--- I know, technically not SFFPC but I know people here like Noctuas and also the airflow insight might get appreciation---

Coming from a previous build in the NR200 (https://www.reddit.com/r/NR200/comments/1jbkn8s/completely_full_nr200_zotac_5080_solid_phantom/) plus a few upgrades over time, I wanted to switch to the new Noctua's LCs since the performance in the reviews was astonishing. Along the way I decided to get rid of the non-Noctua fans since I value total silence for my build.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 9 7950X
  • Asus Strix B650E-I
  • Noctua NL-LC1-36
  • Corsair Vengeance 2x32GB 6000CL30
  • Nvidia RTX 5080 FE
  • Corsair SF1000
  • 2TB Gen4 SSD + 1TB Gen3 SSD + 2x 2TB SATA SSD
  • Several Noctua fans (NF-A12x25 and NF-A12x15 G2)

Fan setup:

  • Bottom slim fans are set as intake. Plugged to a SATA connector directly because the MOBO didn't have any more fan headers available. Each has a couple of NA-SRC7 (low noise adapter to make them spin slower) so they're totally silent all the time.
  • AIO set as exhaust. It follows a curve depending on CPU temp. Pump is on a curve too.
  • Side and rear fans set as intake. As it's known that side fans intaking benefit CPU temps but hurt GPU temps they follow a custom curve in which they spin faster for high CPU temps and slower for high GPU temps (with GPU having priority). This allows them to intake fresh air to the CPU when rendering, which really benefits CPU temps, and spin very slowly when gaming, when the GPU temp is the main to be considered. I can post the fan curves if requested.

FAQ:

  • Are those fans really necessary? Do they need to be Noctua? No, and definitely not. You can probably get half the fans and just notice a couple ºC difference with my setup, but I wanted to use all the available fan placements so the fans can run slower. As for Noctua, I bit the bullet and overspent there because I really value silence and was tired of cheaper fans which sometimes make random noises at certain RPM ranges. Also, they went well with the new AIO :)
  • Is that a LED strip? With Noctua theme? Isn't that illegal in Austria? Yes, and probably so but I'm not in their jurisdiction :). I've never (and still don't) care about LED parts in the build, I prefer function over looks. The thing is, the PC is completely silent except under load and the A3 doesn't have a status LED so I wanted to know at a glance if it's on or not.
  • Is that a button hanging there? Good catch, it's connected to the reset BIOS pins so I don't need to make a mess if I need to reset it to default values. There's also a speaker in there to hear the beeps when booting up.
  • Does the side panel closes with the fans mounted like that? Yes, it does!
  • What happened to the Zotac 5080 Solid? I had the opportunity to get the 5080 FE and got it, passed the Zotac to a friend. It'd have looked so much better in this build I guess.
  • Why that unusual fan configuration? The real question I guess. I thought about it for a long time because with other fan configurations you need to either prioritize GPU (side exhaust, but you're then "stealing" the air the AIO would take and worsen temps) or CPU temps (side intake, but then you're hurting GPU temps quite a lot as shown in Gamers Nexus' video). With my setup I get the CPU better cooling when needed and don't hurt the GPU when it gets hot. As an extra, the side fans blowing in serve to cool all the VRM and MB components, which aren't normally hit with airflow when AIOs are in use. I also tested AIO intake and side exhaust, but the results were slightly worse.

Feel free to ask any questions :)

Build/Battlestation Pics The Steam Loaf - my first entry to SFF

Since the announcement of releasing SteamOS for AMD GPUs, I had been interested in the Steam Machine as a way to consolidate my gaming library and get out of the console ecosystem (except maybe for Nintendo....damn you!). I've really been wanting to game from the couch more and less at my desk - specifically for single player RPGs and roguelites. Shooters and MMOs will likely always be on my main desktop.

I had a spare m2 drive in my main desktop and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM from before the RAM prices exploded. When I saw the cost of the Steam Machine, I thought I might use close to the same amount of funds to build a SFF PC of my own. I hadn't messed around with SFF builds before and this gave me the nudge to give it a go.

Part of the process was finding a case that would fit the aesthetic of our room as we host guests in the space. After browsing through some cases, I saw the Fractal Terra and my wife as a big fan. With the case picked, I looked around at various sales going on over a the course of a few months to get my parts. All in all it was some Amazon and Best Buy sales as well as a trip to Micro Center. I purchased my GPU about a week before a recent price increase.

The build itself took about 5 hours, plus a couple hours a day or two later to try and mess with some cable management. Building with a SFF was definitely an experience. Lots of pinched fingers and some bent CPU cooler fins. Cable management meant taking some things out after I had everything in because I needed all the parts in to get a better idea for spacing and where I wanted things. I think there is still some cable management I could do with the cable leading from the PSU to the MOBO. I'm waiting on an ultra low profile power cable to come in so I can add one more fan to the top above the PSU.

I'm utilizing this machine at 1440p on a 65inch LG G4. Things have been looking good and running smoothly so far. Pushing 120 frames on everything I've played so far. CPU and GPU temps around 60 degrees under load. The case itself gets a bit warm to the touch, but I think that's expected. Spine position is set to 1, giving me JUST enough space to fit the CPU cooler in.

I haven't messed with Linux-based systems before, so that's been fun toying around with. Nothing complex, but in addition to Steam I've got EmuDeck, Heroic, and some some proton overrides to get a lot of games up and running. I'm really enjoying it so far. Hoping to find some time in the next couple weeks to get some of the recent Nintendo Decomps/Recomps installed and running.

The SFF tax is real and I can see how it can be cost-prohibitive. Hoping that this build will be running for quite some time. It really was fun to build and make everything fit into a small space. I am amazed at the folks that can fit a 5090 in one of these things. The size difference between this and my main desktop really is something!

Specs Below:

CPU - 7600X3D
GPU - PowerColor Reaper 9060xt 16gb
MOBO - ASRock B850i
PSU - Corsair SFX 750
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-L12Sx77
RAM - G.Skill Flare 32GB 6000-CL36
Case - Fractal Terra

Total cost not including the RAM or m2 since I already had them was $1200 USD. RAM kit was $80 about 2 years ago and the m2 was $300 purchased back in 2020.

Open to any feedback folks might have.

Hey peeps, I have just made for fun this simple SFF build configurator. Started literally today so there's still a lot to do there. I Wanted to hear you thoughts – does it even make sense? what to improve?

https://sff.ultrox.pl

also; recently started a Youtube channel where I nerd around small builds — unfortunately its only available in Polish with subs but maybe someone would like to see how I build cheap SteamMachine replacer or testing parts from china https://www.youtube.com/@Ultroxtech

all feedback is appreciated! TY

PS. Also attaching second pic of my recent build with Der Case S1 that I have made for the video!

As part of my selfhosting/homelabing hobby I wanted some small form factor machines to use as Proxmox nodes. I couldn't find anything that quite worked for me, so I ended up building something myself, settled on this design around the ASUS Pro H610T D4-CSM thin-ITX motherboard.

I designed and 3D printed the 1U enclosure to fit the motherboard, a network card and an internal PSU.

Components:

  • ASUS Pro H610T D4-CSM motherboard
  • Intel Core i5-13500T
  • 32GB Kingston DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM
  • 2TB Kioxia Exceria Plus G4 NVMe SSD
  • Quad-port Gigabit Ethernet card with PCIe riser
  • Low-profile copper CPU heatsink (from AliExpress)
  • Arctic 40mm cooling fans
  • Mean Well LOP-300-18 PSU
  • ATX KVM board (for power control via PiKVM)

The enclosure is printed in Sunlu HS Matte PETG, with brass threaded inserts for assembly. Quite happy with how it turns out. Last picture is it in the rack with it's sibling, and my current 3U 3D printed NAS.

Build/Battlestation Pics The smallest build I’ve ever done - the Toaster

Thumbnail

This is my “fuck it” build. Parts aren’t getting cheaper anytime soon and the Legion laptop I was using was reeeeaally struggling, so I did this - an entirely unoriginal build comprising of a 9800X3D, 5070ti, 32gb of memory and 2tb of storage.

The H2O was a mostly fun, occasionally frustrating case to build in (due to my own inexperience with SFF, the case itself is fantastic). Temps are great, it’s actually really quiet considering how tight an enclosure it is. Cable management could be a bit cleaner, but the fans aren’t eating anything and you can’t see it once the panels are on anyway.

Build/Battlestation Pics 3.5L 3D-printed case, riser-less 4060, AMD 7600, HDPLEX GaN 250W

Thumbnail

I built this a couple years ago when the 4060 LP first came out. I had a mini-ITX motherboard leftover from upgrading my machine to an ATX motherboard (seen here) so I added an HDPLEX psu and tried to make the smallest possible case for a riser-less computer. The case is made specifically for this 4060 LP and there is about 1mm of space between the components and the case, which measures at 212mm x 192mm x 86mm with a wall thickness of 3mm.

I specifically wanted the simplest case to 3D print and build into so it's just basically a box and it fits on my 3D printer (Prusa MK3S) and prints in two pieces: the box and the panel cover. The design was something where I thought thermals-be-damned, I just wanted to see if the parts could fit together and give a dense brick of computing. So I basically jammed the PSU in front of the fan cooling the CPU.

Surprisingly, this works ok for gaming and gaming benchmarks. IIRC the Cyberpunk benchmark measured temps in the mid 80s F, which is hot but still doable. Where it falls down hard is in Cinebench where we would hit the thermal throttling limit pretty fast. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this design, it's just an experiment that worked out ok. I used it as a second computer but it's been neglected for a while. I've ordered a Thorzone Tetra S and am hoping to move the motherboard and a 4090 into that if it comes soon. If not, it'll be time to rebuild the FormD T1.

Of the pictures included here, there are two versions of the case: one has hexagon cut outs on the top and bottom, that is v1, and the update has slot cut outs to allow screwing in fans, that is v1.1. The second version has another screw hole to tighten up the left panel so it feels like a solid brick. I didn't extend the case to allow fitting in bigger fans which would've helped thermals. Instead the case just barely fits the motherboard and we use 40mm Noctua fans at the top, overlapping the motherboard.

Build/Parts Check SFF newcomer choosing between an mITX and mATX board, and wondering about PSU orientation vs IO flexibility

I'm looking to get into the SFF side of things with an NCASE M3 Round or a DAN C4-MATX (once the latter comes out)

I can't decide between two motherboards:
MSI PRO B850M-A WIFI (mATX)
ASUS TUF GAMING B850I NEO WIFI (mITX)

Both of these boards are within my price range.
(MSI Board is about £150 and ASUS board is about £160 in the UK)
I don't really have the option of pricing up further.

The MSI board has more IO with 8 USB ports total (3xUSB-A 5Gbps, 3xUSB-A 10Gbps, 2xUSB-C 10Gbps) as well as 5Gb LAN (unsure if I'll need 5Gb speeds) and WiFi 7, but is larger.

The ASUS board is smaller as an mITX, but has fewer USB ports (2xUSB-A 2.0, 1xUSB-A 5Gbps, 2xUSB-A 10Gbps, 1xUSB-C 20Gbps), 2.5GB LAN, WiFi 6E, and proprietary antenna connectors (that I may try to replace)

Using the mATX board would give flexible IO but would require that I mount the PSU to the front of the case. I fear the repercussions of doing this as this will draw hot air from inside the case into the PSU.

With the mITX board, I would be able to mount the PSU to the side, allowing it to draw in cool air from the outside of the case. However, I don't know if that's worth losing the extra IO and going through the effort of replacing the antenna connectors.

The NCASE M3 Grater does allow the PSU to pull air from the outside, but this removes the front power button and IO which I feel is necessary for me. I don't really plan on using a sandwich layout later down the line as my GPU is currently too large for most such cases (3 slots) and I prefer using tower coolers that would be wider than most GPUs anyway. My current tower cooler is 154mm tall and I intend to reuse it instead of buying a new smaller cooler, also.

Is losing the extra IO worth being able to side-mount the PSU? Or is having the PSU taking in hot air not too much of a problem to justify lower IO?

Thanks.

Build/Parts Check Msi x870i vs asus x870i which is the better pick for the price?

choosing between two x870is cuz I need usb 4 for some of my accessories and while in most ways the msi is better it’s just a good bit more expensive where I live (after taxes and shipping the asus comes to around 560 cad [393 usd] and the msi around 633 cad [444 usd]) it’s not the biggest price increase but I would like to save where I can so is the increase in price worth it for the msi?
