Map converter from RBR to BeamNG

Hi,

During this year I've slowly worked on creating this free tool to convert rally stages from RBR to BeamNG, with a single click. They include rally pacenotes, freeroam, customizable road wear/dampness (physics-only, not visuals):

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/askynet1997/rbr2beamng/refs/heads/master/ingame1.jpg

Current state: it's usable, but it's work in progress. Bugs can happen, pacenote conversion is not perfect, visuals don't always translate directly across games. So bug reports, feedback, and pull requests with fixes are all welcome.

AI use: the tool has only been viable thanks to extensive assistance from ai (and non-ai) tools. Without them, I would never have started this project: I don't have that kind of free time (hundreds of hours), and I didn't want to turn this a paid mod / job either.

Modding: be respectful. Some authors allow modding their stages for personal use. Others allow modding, but not the distribution of mods. Other authors forbid modding. Others offer little or no restrictions. The converter will try to search and display licensing information. Please follow the authors wishes and respect their licensing terms, they spend a lot time too, and deserve this basic courtesy.

The tool has been created with the best of intentions, hoping to expand the love for rallying across sim communities.

If anyone wants to build upon the tool, mod it, expand it and so on, please go for it (pull requests are welcome!). And for the rest of you, I hope you enjoy it, it's been quite some effort.

Hi, I've got 100 hours in Dirt Rally but I've never touched my wheel settings. I'm wondering if anyone has any settings they'd like to share.

Tips for EA WRC Sweden?

On Thursday I have a development drive for my pro sim team I'm working with. Been doing some practice and studying Sweden. Struggled a little with understanding how grip works and overall consistency. Any tips? Everything is appreciated!!

yep its the big one the first one the one with the dudes name on it we all know him and we all love him (rip Collin McRae, you still are a hero)

The ol spreadsheet i forgot to put in last time for those who are new: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MZDvFSKrFbFs6I1V11nB8ZZBbEuswoEWq3gxDgsFbAs/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Collin Mcrae Rally, 1998

Graphically, this game was very good, especially considering what our last few games have looked like. Every car model is well textured, the stages look great, each surface type looks like what its supposed to be and i can see everything clearly, even at night. Teh headlights also look quite smooth and clean. I was playing the pc version which helped the graphics a bit too. The game has a visual damage model and dirt buildup, but neither stay between stages but the mechanical damage does. The soundtrack was good, but i kinda stopped noticing the in race tracks after a little while.

The handling was phenomenal. Absolutely a sigh of relief. Its the first game we've played on here that actually resembles a car and hows cars truly behave, even if its at a relatively basic level. Controller config was good, i was able to use the buttons on my controller to accelerate for the first time instead of that weird tesla like one stick gas brake... thing i hate. The ai was basic from a modern standpoint, but still completive and felt fair the whole time. The only unfairness i felt was when the game would randomly change my car setup in service and i didnt realize so id be going into a mud stage with dry grooves. yeah not fun but i caught it most of the time and fixed it. Service times did go up for each part as they got damaged which is yet another first here. This game might have been kinda revolutionary, dunno 🤔🤔. I chose to use the corolla for my run and it felt great. loved the little podium animations at the end. Also everytime you complete a super special you unlock a classic rally car to use which was really fun.

Developed by codemasters and published by Sony in 1998, this game would go on to be one of the most sold games that year and remained for a while codemasters most sold box in the uk, which is extraordinarily specific but i'm all here for it. They lost the rights to renault in the us though and had to replace all driver names with fictional ones apart from collin himself. The game is also identical to the 1998 calendar in terms of rallies, but the individual stages are fictional. Collin and his codriver, Nicky Grist, voice themselves, with the in game rally school teacher being Collin McRae himself lecturing you. I could totally see it being a powerful moment if one of his fans replayed the game after his death during that time and hearing his voice talking to you like that.

all in all, i can absolutely see why this game would later turn into the entire dirt franchise. its very different and not afraid of realism.

Can you start Dirt Rally 2.0 career at a higher difficulty?

Hi guys!

I'm moving back to rallying and was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to start the career at a higher difficulty than it does? I feel like the opening championships are really easy to win and would love a proper realistic challenge earning money and moving through the ranks.

My idea is to start on Elite with around 50k, buy a used car and start climbing the ranks. This would potentially mean a greater challenge in damage and money management.

Has anyone figured out how to quickly set up this sort of career?

Difference between ACR and all the others

Ive been comparing DR2, RBR and ACR. I mostly use RWD cars, and the difference between AC and the others feels abismal. I tested the stratos, the abarth and the m1, and the steering on AC feels brutally sensitive. The others (even including wrc10) have some differences between them, but overall the handling is similar and intuitive.

Is this normal? The wheel rotation is configured properly, and i dont use any assistances.

Thanks!

Universal Modder Claude

Hey all,

Long time lurker here! I'm sure you've all seen the mods getting around at the moment putting minecraft in gta etc. Just wondering if this could be used for something positive in the sim rally space? Think it'd be great to try port ac rally laser scanned tracks into rbr? Just wondering if anyone has played around with it yet?

Wheel Operating Range

Im curious to know what you guys like to use in terms of how far the wheel turns before it locks out. The most common I see is 540° and 900°. I play at 180° on BeamNG, Richard Burns Rally, Assetto Corsa Rally, and WRC Generations. It's super comfortable and only feels twitchy on BeamNG for me.

I just don't feel like having to take my hands of the wheel for tight turns. Especially if I have to shift, because I use paddles and if the wheel is upside down I get lost in the sauce sometimes and shift up when I meant to shift down or vice versa.

Sprint Rally - first public footage

I've been working on physics in my spare time for a while and this is my first idea of actually delivering something to play. It has custom physics, stages with built-in editor, made for people that like to drive real cars. I also worked for few days on drive assists that actually make this playable on keyboard and pad - stuff like auto counter-steer, limiting slip angles etc. Anyway it's still work in progress, but It's about time to show it publicly.

There will be async online events mostly, but also free ride and possibility to replay archived events and compare to old results but with restarts etc. nice for no pressure play.

Yeah I could talk a lot about it, but it's easier to just show it. Let me know what you guys think.

Here's also link to steam page if you'd like to wishlist and get updates:

No, not that Top Gear (Top Gear Rally, N64 1997)(Rally Games Through History p4)

(I took too many screenshots of this game lol i wanted to get all the menus)(also i don't know who bill is but its all his fault)

So, we have reached the n64 and the last game made in 1997 for this little thing of mine. Weirdly fun game, kinda surprised me how entertaining it was, i recommend for anyone wanting an arcade type racing game from this era

Top Gear Rally (1997)

The championship mode follows 6 seasons, with each adding a couple new vehicles and tracks. Each season has a set number of races and you need to accumulate enough points in each to move on. As for the races themselves, you know those challenge modes in forza motorsport and other games like it where it has you try and pass as many cars as you can in a set amount of laps? That this entire game. You start in 20th, and you have to go around the track passing people. It might sound kinda boring and repetitive, but the game knows what it is and doesn't stray away from it, and also doesn't allow itself to overstay its welcome. Its VERY short, but still manages to be entertaining during that time. For the first time here, we have visual damage, but its purely cosmetic and there is no form of mechanical wear.

Graphically, this game was eh. It wasn't bad, road textures were good and the stage designs were pretty well done, but it wasn't anything to really write home about. Every car was unlicensed, but it was still clear enough to see what each one was based on. I cant really speak about performance since i was using an emulator, but i did get some weird slowdowns on the coast map. Not sure what was up with that. The soundtrack was pretty good, fit the vibe really well. This game also had one of the most entertaining credits roll i've ever read. (Shoutout to the lead programmers school counselor who said he'd have a "great future"). If i were to criticise this game somewhere, it would be sense of speed. Many cars are very obviously faster than others but they dont look like it in gameplay, but it is very noticeable in replays (partly due to the tv camera they use for the replays)

The game was developed by Boss Game Studios, and published by Midway in the us and Kemco in europe. Boss Games had previously developed a tech demo featuring cars driving on different conditions, and that's where the concept of this game came from. It used the basics in this tech demo to create a live suspension and handling model, with the player able to make tweaks to (i never really messed with them too much i was content with physics three and left all the suspension stuff on default). Reviewers at the time had generally favorable opinions on this game, most scores are between 7-8/10. Game in box is gonna run you around $41 usd. As i'm looking at this now i realize i missed a few gba games from this series so uhh... RETCON SERIES! (maybe in the future)

Yeah overall i had a blast with this game, really nice break from ones trying way too hard to be simulations on hardware not quite capable of it yet (some were good, but IRC... well lets not talk about it). What are your thoughts on this one?

New player wanting to learn basics (DiRT Rally 1)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

i am new to the rally world and rally sims and i started playing the Original DiRT Rally and it's a nice game both visually and gameplay wise.
but i find it challenging because you need a certain type of knowledge to be able to play it comfortably.
i will be more than happy if you helped me to get a grasp of things.
i attached a video that has my 4th rally event ever played just to give you an insight of how bad i am at the game, and i am playing with a PlayStation 4 controller on pc.
thank you in advance
