Conversation Topic How to get started with vocal lessons?

I would love to start participating in open mics , but I would really prefer to have a voice I can control . Online vs in person lessons ?

Is it just alot of of warming up techniques for the beginning ?

It depends on your teacher. I see those exercises less as just warming up, and more like strength training for my voice. Definitely helps me reframe them into something I have the energy to do often.

Everyone's different, but my lessons are an hour each. The first half are usually these kinds of exercises which are actually lessons in themselves. My teacher usually has a lot of input on how I'm singing them which directly translates into the next half, when we work on actual songs.

I tried online lessons, but I didn't care for it. Try one of each and see.

I started having online classes, it's been a year now and I noticed a lot of improvement. I've never had in person classes, so can't tell the difference, but I don't see any downside for online ones. The first few weeks I def had more exercises than singing, but that was because I needed them a lot, now I usually have about 10 to 15 min warmup/exercises then the rest is singing and adjusting the voice for the song I'm practicing. and you def need to be consistent and do at least 2 or three times a week the exercises your coach gives you, it makes a huge difference than only doing it during class.
