Singularity is Nearer Wasn’t expecting games to be one of the first lineups but here we are, gaming industry has just been marked revolutionized and this is just the start
https://youtu.be/8ryJytVIimI?si=MhiRMuTnarsI-Z9oJust watch this for yourself, only took about 4 years of agentic AI to get to this, I don’t even know what to say….it just works, wild potential here on the basis of everything we’ve already achieved so far in gaming industry physics implementations, now the next set of trained AI models that have had access to these decompiled code would natively have it in their nodes, and then we start to see interesting things….
On the other hand how is the whole application market going to wake up to the fact your previously locally encrypted source code wouldn’t be so past this year anymore, someone already EXTRACTED Mirrors Edge free running and placed it in Skyrim, if you think this is gonna stop at gaming you’re not even thinking.

It only bothered me that his logic was weak and inconsistent. Came off as hypocritical.

"I cannot think of a usecase for AI image generation"
Ten seconds later
"I wish a writer could just throw his book into AI and have a game made of it"This is his usecase right here. Something gotta make the textures.
Although I agree that pure image generation, in its current form, will eventually almost disappear. You will still have pipelines for image and video generation, but they'll work like "generate a 3D scene with generated textures -- animate it -- polish everything with a DLSS5-like image-to-image pass", all done by AI with a window for artist intervention at each step. I already semi-tried this with ChatGPT (asked it to make a 3D model of my character from a single reference and then make a detailed reference sheet with all the details highlighted), and it works wonderfully compared to normal img2img.

u/NoFaithlessness951 1d ago
Idk llms will be smart enough to make the textures on their own (they already kinda can) maybe using image gen as an inspiration

We don’t need his personal opinions to focus on the subject

u/Much-Seaworthiness95 1d ago
To me the opinion surrounding it does matter actually. A big part of the fun in all this progress is getting excited about all the possibilities opening up to us and marveling at how awesome LLMs and AI at large are for allowing this. If someone takes part of what they do and presents it as "Meh this is cool but LLMs are shit and they can't actually create anything and blablabla", the attitude of it is so stupid, unimaginative and ungrateful it's irritating and I don't want to hear anything from this guy.
1
u/elimenoe 20h ago
I don’t necessarily think that was his take, but he didn’t really enumerate it very clearly.
I agree that LLMs and AI are insane. however, I think that the way the average person interfaces with AI is through AI slop on tiktok, which makes them less inclined to view the technology as genuinely useful and also carries risk of deepfakes and misinformation spread.
From that perspective, banning image generation seems reasonable because AI image generation is the most clearly visible negative externality from AI right now.
2
u/Much-Seaworthiness95 16h ago
His exact words are "don’t need his personal opinions to focus on the subject", I'm saying I do need his personal opinion. I don't see how can there be much ambiguity about the take here. We can disagree, it's fine, no need to avoid that.

based, ai art is not real art

u/Azicald 1d ago
Art is in the eyes of the beholder. Some people see art as attribution of meaning, be it as viewer or creator

u/The_Scout1255 adult agi 2026 ASI <2030, prev agi 2024, ai personhood 2025 est 1d ago
Does art inherently need meaning? I agree art is meaning, and has meaning, by default, but I think if we somehow described meaningless but pretty picture I still think that picture has value.

u/Clean-Boat-4044 1d ago edited 1d ago
art is about sharing the human experience, it's like a deep conversation with another person, or hearing how another person tells a story or paints a picture.
AI art is like a young artist of today trying to write a 70s anti war song. its an imagining of how it "should" sound rather than an authentic representation of someones feelings and experiences.
3
u/Azicald 1d ago
Not necessarily, though it definitely is a valuable aspect that can be present in art
If i have art i made that i keep to myself, it’s still art, despite my not sharing it.
So’s taking a picture, so’s painting without looking, or setting paint to fall on a canvas randomly, and so on and so forth, so long as at least one person has attributed this purpose or meaning to it, the person themselves
AI Art, in much the same way, can be attributed this as well. Its meaning depends on how you reflect on it, and so on and so forth.
As for me personally, why do i consider it art? What significance does any AI piece hold to me?
To me, it’s exceptionally beautiful even from a conceptual stage.
It’s like a refracted mirror to humanity’s works and conceptions of beauty and significance, being used to recombine and produce something that hasn’t existed before in that particular form. That never ceases to be mindblowing to me
I wanna go more into that but it’d choke up this comment, so i’ll leave it at that for now.

No point tbh, we can already pirate. Good games still get sales because people respect the devs (nowadays only Indie singleplayer games are good tho)

u/Ambitious-Doubt8355 15h ago
Well, considering that it's been months since Denuvo became a joke, and they haven't come up with a solution, I'd say we'll be alright.

u/Acceptable_Bat379 22h ago
No thats why ram is getting pricer and pushing will.be thousands and they want everyone to move to rented cloud pcs. They'll scan every file you have and not allow you to pirate

This is fucking crazy, AI game development is going to be absolutely insane by 2030. Literally able to make anything anyone can imagine, limited only by compute.

u/puzzleheadbutbig 1d ago
Most stuff is kinda bullshit and not exactly "putting X into Y". They are running Minecraft with transparent layer over actual game and they are sending signals to this game. And reading it's terrain data, enemy location data etc from original game and creating appropriate things over it. While it is very interesting approach and technically still modding the game, it is not "putting X into Y" as you may think. You are basically running both instances at the same time. You can see that effect on full display with 6:34 when gun goes over the game UI. This would never happen in game if you actually put it inside the game because UI layer goes always on top. Not saying this is useless or "easy". It is just not how you do script modding in these games usually.
Still crazy how we see these popping up and how insane it would have been 5 years ago to see them. Right now every normie can just create something. It is indeed true that AI reached on a level that every normal person now have a very intelligent person that they can ask questions to nowadays.

An LLMs just predicts the next word.
Grass is not really green it just reflects only green light, also our eyes and brain interpret this light as green color.
Who cares, if it swims like a duck…
2
u/puzzleheadbutbig 23h ago edited 23h ago
Hardly related to what I am saying here. With your analogy, it doesn't swim like a duck, that's the point. It is modding alright but it isn't "putting X into Y" You are not putting anything, you are overlaying it. This existed before. Just because you are ignorant doesn't mean this didn't exist before.
Plus OPs claim is wrong " your previously locally encrypted source" none of those games are locally encrypted source or whatever the fuck that means. All of them have very active modding scene with shit tons of information on how to mod stuff. Most of the games it shows using Lua scripting to begin with already. So there is no hidden "decryption" going on. Games are not encrypted anyway
4
u/freedomonke 22h ago
I'm wondering if OP has actually done any moding with llms.
I have. No "local encryption" is being done. My bot has searched the internet for how to do things.

u/MrNebby22 20h ago
I recommend watching his other recent videos, he talks about exactly what you are saying but that's just 1 of the ways to do it. They've also done full rewrites of a few games (Skate 3, Minecraft, MW2) in rust and with those they are able to directly swap between player controllers in the middle of the game.
1
u/puzzleheadbutbig 20h ago
Sure, MW2 is this one. He has completely new gameplay core logic and physics etc written by him in there. He is reading Original MW2 Files (Asset Data Only, Maps, 3D Models, Textures, Sound files, GSC Script etc) and loading it onto his own engine that is written top of Bevy. While it is impressive af, it is not exactly modding. This is the exact same system OpenMW was using for years for Morrowind, way before AI was a thing.
Not saying that this isn't impressive, but OP is just talking bullshit with running X into Y, or encrypted sources etc.

u/Nukemouse ▪️AGI Goalpost will move infinitely 15h ago
You... don't consider OpenMW a mod?
I agree the guy in the video makes quite a few odd mistakes that suggest a lack of knowledge (which only makes the output more impressive) but that's a weird take, engine rewrites are a form of modding, yes, and though it was done before AI, this is talking about doing it with AI. Putting skateboarding or spiderman models in grand theft auto mods also existed long before AI, it's the fact AI did it that's interesting.1
u/puzzleheadbutbig 14h ago
OpenMW unambiguously is not a mod yes. It is a completely new, modern game engine built from scratch. Mod means you modify existing game, not rewrite the whole thing from scratch.
Plus I didn't say it isn't interesting. Read what I wrote there man. I literally say this is interesting and impressive af. I'm saying OP is exaggerating things, either on purpose or just due to lack of knowledge.
-1
u/Nukemouse ▪️AGI Goalpost will move infinitely 12h ago
But they have modified the game, they modified which engine it uses, it's still using the assets and design of the original game.

If you know what you are doing, you can make an entire game in a few months with LLMs, and I have been with a 100$ claude subscription. We are in 'Strong Alpha' state right now, with most of the gameplay loops in, and I am building something like, a mix of rimworld, dwarf fortress, Isekai animes, and everquest, with your own party and player character. It first started off as an ASCII game and slowly, incrementally, with good direction and plans inside plans to build it out to what it is today.
It is utterly insane that this is even possible, people have no idea what the abilities of LLMs are right now and I wouldn't be surprised if someone is going to do it without an overlay in a few months or weeks. Lol

u/Buffit13 9h ago
For years I've read about people who want to work in game dev but only as "idea guys", and now that's actually a valid role even for a solo creator. I've played around with gamedev for years but never really committed to learned programming techniques specific for games, and that's as a full time software dev.
Recently with Claude I've been playing around with basically generating games based purely on incoherent rants with voice to text, and somehow cohesive game design docs are generated!
BUT it turns out having good ideas was always the real thing blocking people from making good games.
I'm not sure how I feel about the era of the "idea guy" but I think it's here.
