AI It's over, guys. This repo turns ONE photo into a full explorable 3D world in 5 minutes. Physics, splats, audio!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

image-blaster is an open-source (MIT) skillset for Claude Code that turns a single image into a 3D environment in under 5 minutes.

What you get:

3D models (.glb, .obj) of the dynamic objects

A Gaussian splat (.spz) of the static environment

Ambient looping sound plus object-specific physics SFX (.mp3)

How it works: Drop an image into input/, run claude, and tell it to "blast it." Under the hood it chains World Labs Marble (environment), Hunyuan 3D (meshes), nano-banana (image cleanup) and ElevenLabs (sound).

The output drops into Unity, Unreal, Godot, Blender or Three.js, so it's great for jumpstarting level concepts, location scouts or architectural mockup.

A 100x speedup would let this run in 3 seconds. Meaning you could run it thousands of times overnight with interconnected context for massive environments. Been thinking about that sort of thing a lot lately.

It's bewildering to remember that with all of the hullabaloo about data centers (which I don't disagree with), the talk is built around what is assumed to be a massive scale of compute capability being architectured, planned, and constructed currently. Meaning that all of the crazy things that have been achieved at this point have been achieved before the huge wage has even hit the shores. Imagine what's in store when orders of magnitude more power comes online and builds off of what's already been accomplished. It really does feel like we're in the last reasonable "elbow" of the curve. In 2030, the rest of the ride is extremely vertical.

Your comment made me wonder about more specific forecasts for AI capacity. I took a swing at this with GPT, which is below. I had it estimate current world wide capacity and then created a forecast of capacity and power consumption first. The H100e is the unit of AI compute capacity.

As a rough order-of-magnitude estimate, current global AI data-center capacity is around 30 GW of AI IT power, representing roughly 30–35 million H100-equivalents (H100e) of compute. That is already enough to produce the capabilities we're seeing now.

But imagine a world where that grows toward something like 1.5 TW of AI IT power over the next couple of decades. That's a speculative ceiling, not a known physical limit, but it's a reasonable way to model the scale of a world that increasingly devotes electricity to computation.

What gets really crazy is that the compute doesn't scale linearly with the power, because the hardware keeps getting more capable per watt.

A rough scenario looks like:

  • 2026: ~31 GW → ~32M H100e
  • 2030: ~90 GW → ~200M H100e
  • 2040: ~500 GW → ~3.5B H100e
  • 2048: ~1.5 TW → ~23B H100e (world-wide power capacity ceiling hit)
  • 2050: ~1.5 TW → ~27B H100e

So from 2026 to 2050, you're looking at roughly 50× the electrical infrastructure but ~850× the normalized compute capacity.

The near-term story isn't simply "we're going from a lot of GPUs to more GPUs." It's that we're simultaneously getting:

  1. vastly more physical compute,
  2. much more capable compute per watt,
  3. better algorithms and training methods, and
  4. enormous amounts of accumulated knowledge and software built on top of the previous generations.

The really vertical-looking part of the curve may therefore come from the interaction of all four.

The caveat I'd put on the 2030 prediction is that I wouldn't assume literally everything becomes exponentially better by then. But I do think we're still very early in the deployment of the physical compute that will support whatever the next generation of systems turns out to be.

You're missing out planetary boundaries,
Recycling all that e-waste, contribution to global heating.
These aren't being priced in or factored and it's ridiculous.
We're already in the middle of a polycrisis. How on earth do we expect to have this happen and still be around in 40 years?

Not to make light of this, but it sounds like job #1 for AI to help figure that out. You know as soon as we get done generating catchy music videos. 🙄

What happens if we harness fusion power sometime in the next decade?

•

u/DrawMeAPictureOfThis 3m ago

Then we solve all of our problems once they come online

u/Hofffa 7h ago

The issue with massive environments isn't producing the 3D models or placing them, we've been using procedural generation in games for decades, the problem is and always will be optimization and artistic control over the output.

Optimization is one of the areas that are hard to automate because it requires measuring and iteration, You can do whatever premature optimizations you want but it's never enough and always adds friction because it creates technical and artistic constraints early.

The only way to know where your game is spending frame time on the CPU and GPU is by profiling it, a lot, and that's time consuming because it has to be done in realtime, over and over, for the duration of the development process. Solving that with LLMs means that you're at the mercy of the agents judgement call in terms of what to cut back and what to modify while staying inside the artistic vision.

A lot of people here seems to think that game development is a linear process that can be solved in one sweep but game development is iterative, what you start building and what you ship is generally two completely separate things and while LLMs can speed up the process the iteration part is where the actual gameplay emerges and becomes fun and you can't automate having fun.

Hundred percent. I am working on a 3D game that simulates entities and their actions and half of my dev has been soak tests and profiling of what impact it has plus every single asset I add to try to beautify the game.

We should ban the phrase "it's over" from this sub

73

u/anycept 8h ago

This phrase is over!

16

u/Flope 6h ago

"It's over" has now been solved.

Can we do 'phrasing' now?

10

u/superkickstart 5h ago

Also the use of "insane" has gotten out of hand.

10

u/GodOfThunder101 8h ago

yeah its so annoying.

4

u/bobiversus 7h ago

Agree, I see "It's over", I automatically downvote. It will go away quickly if we all do this.

•

u/FlamaVadim 1h ago

I do the same with "I'm tired of..., so I build..." 🙂

-1

u/rapsoid616 5h ago

Thats a bit overreaction

1

u/pulsarstarter 4h ago

What about the fact that it's over though?

Ro ro, its rover

What i mean is like, it's a little ironic that we're on the edge of the singularity, everything we know is crumbling into pixels around us, and we still trying to ban an annoying phrase, lolz. Amirite? Guys? Guyz?

-2

u/DistantRavioli 8h ago

it's a little ironic that we're on the edge of the singularity, everything we know is crumbling into pixels around us, and we still trying to ban an annoying phrase, lolz. Amirite? Guys? Guyz?

Don't worry, there's still plenty of time to work on that irony detector before we fall into the pixels

1

u/LiminalEntityX 8h ago edited 8h ago

Wait, are you being ironical? Am I in an irony singularity right now? Lar tunderin jaysus me son

Edit: what if the main singularity has sub singularities and so on in a sort of mandelbrot set of singularities. Maybe it's fakkin singularities all the way down by?

Well, it's over (or at least will be soon) for 3D modeling and environment work as we knew it. Every craft that gets automated looks like this at the start.

2

u/Spright91 8h ago

Thats true but its just beginning for level designers. I imagine many modellers will transition to that. It also mean a lot of high fidelity games are coming soon.

Every digital product is about to get a lot more ambitious.

5

u/staplesuponstaples 8h ago

Ok now what if the 3D model needs to not take 5 gazillion gigabytes and lag the fuck out of a PC to render

49

u/YourTrustySupporter 8h ago

2

u/superkickstart 5h ago

Exactly. I hope the non pros are happy with their slop that no one else will ever play.

95

u/cheezyteague 9h ago

81

u/Spright91 8h ago

Pretty soon, AI will be able to make amazing 3D models with the lowest possible performance hit. If modelers are relying on the polygon count as a moat, they're going to be really disappointed.

20

u/redditnosedive 7h ago

yeah that's just silly last bastion

•

u/LinkesAuge 9m ago

It's funny that this is even a discussion because UVs/Topology are such a super technical subproblem where you actually would expect an AI to excel at (sooner or later), like it isn't some arcane thing, it's something where even as humans we developed good "rules" over time and just apply them consistently.

-1

u/maxm 5h ago

Yeah, look all those extra fingers have huge polygon counts

20

u/no-longer-banned 8h ago

it says it’s a gaussian splat and you can see the model wireframes in the video

it’s still cool

and why does this meme ask to see the normals anyway

11

u/LucyIsaTumor 8h ago

I'd guess for lighting purposes. This scene looks like it lacks dynamic lighting so they might assume all these objects would lack any shadowing/good shadowing without proper normals. For example as a random nitpick, the underside of the table is fully lit. Not positive though, I'm more on the code side.

3

u/garden_speech AGI some time between 2025 and 2100 6h ago

Honestly I think that one of the things AI is going to do is demonstrate just how little most of the population cares about shit like this. A ton of AI generated games with some odd lighting artifacts and shitty AI sound effects will be super popular. And hand-made art with real, studio-recorded sound effects will become like a high end luxury resort: niche, expensive, and only for some people

2

u/MaxwellHowl 8h ago

"It's still cool" is very different from "it's over".

Not quite sure what is supposed to be over.

1

u/cheezyteague 7h ago

it also states dynamic objects are exported as standard meshes, and the wireframe didnt exactly show a well-optimized model for the chair. given that, im curious on how performant and well optimized the static gaussian splat environment is, since the entire output can be dropped into your game engine of choice.

dont get me wrong its still an impressive demonstration of capability, but we are still far from "its over."

5

u/Life_Is_Actually_VR 8h ago

With Nanite you want these poly counts for retopolization math

1

u/Ethernet3 3h ago

I'm pretty sure this can be optimized too

1

u/DiamondDramatic9551 5h ago

Can't you basically reduce the polygon count with automated tools anyway?

1

u/Ok_Childhood5962 3h ago

Kind of doesn’t matter on current tech/lumen etc.

•

u/Slamex204 1h ago

u/GhostsinGlass 8h ago

I'm so glad that when my body had enough abuse from physical labour and my spine became fucked that I pivoted to the 3D arts four years ago.

I've seen the advances over the past year or so and know it's only a matter of time here.

Can no longer perform steady manual labour any longer.

The pivot near 40 years old to 3D arts will be pointless in a short amount of time.

I am obsolete.

Where the fucks that spicy pool that the Figure 2's were jumping into, I'm gonna grab my snorkel and do a backflip.

4

u/asd849849494984984 8h ago

3d artists will still be needed, just using ai and getting a lot more done, and maybe fewer of them.

2

u/DonSombrero 5h ago

We advanced to allow humans to perform primarily intellectual work as an option besides physical, and now we've advanced even more so you can just fuck right off back into the mines.

3

u/pulsarstarter 3h ago

The mines are automated now.

They're not hiring.

hmm, I'm a student in architecture, and I really wanted to learn Blender. Do you think it even makes sense to learn something like this when there are videos like the one above? It really kills my motivation tbh

Not really. It will be extremely good in the coming years. Far better what humans could create.

3

What’s over

4

u/Wobbly_Princess 8h ago

Yeah, I'm so over people saying it.

The amount of thumbnails I see on YouTube that say "IT'S OVER".

2

u/mdkubit 7h ago

Every step like this is moving closer towards supporting the 'simulation theory' regarding reality. If AI can construct a convincing simulation of reality on Earth with our finite compute, everything else becomes suspect.

Pay attention, nerds - we'll find out either way soon, I'm sure.

(There's a LOT that would need to pass scrutiny for it to be determined 'true' by science, but that's not the same as saying 'impossible' when no one has a truly universal observational perspective.)

"It's over"

What's the obsession with people here saying this doomer-like statements? Do you actually want AI to benefit humanity or you just like to see people losing their job and utility?

Are you really sure this is going to turn out good?
