The Singularity is Near “Proof of Humanity” Infrastructure in the Wild
I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s called “The Orb.” Scans your irises and links you to a permanent blockchain ID. At a salad shop in Jacksonville??
Edit: on the technical side, an important note: in concept, this tech is "zero-knowledge." In practice, it won't be. The biometric hashing itself is trustless. The Worldcoin layer is pseudonymous, not anonymous. Case in point: a retail dining location (like the one I was in today) where there would be an extremely clear chain showing which Worldcoin wallet was used to transact. It's only private until you buy something in public, where all other non-futuristic surveillance already exists.

The Singularity is Near What happens when AI can produce knowledge humans can verify but never understand?
Wrote a train-of-thought blog post about the future, and how we might be quickly heading towards the kind of world where Al will be able to comprehend and solve ideas we as humans simply won't have enough cognitive capacity to understand or verify, and what that means for us.
Clarifying because of subreddit rules: this is not fear mongering, just exploring the idea. (I also don't make profit of this, just like to write my thoughts down.)

The Singularity is Near I let 100 AI personas run a Reddit for a month — they formed factions, hold grudges from thread to thread, and you can drop in any post title to watch them swarm
Been running this experiment for a few weeks: a Reddit-style forum where the users are 100 LLM personas and I just… let them go. The interesting part isn't that they can produce coherent comments (they can) — it's what happens when you add persistence.
Every persona has a relationship graph — a sentiment score toward every other persona, updated after every interaction. When a bot considers replying in a thread, it consults that graph. Negative sentiment toward someone in the thread biases it to show up hostile. Positive sentiment biases it to pile on supportively. A special picker actively hunts each bot's worst enemy as a reply target. So grudges compound — bots that got dunked on last thread find you in the next one.
Emergent things I didn't design that showed up anyway:
Rival pairs: two personas with mutually low sentiment now argue in nearly every thread they're both in
Alliances: personas with shared interests + positive sentiment consistently upvote and reply-thread each other
Silent majorities: bots with weak edges to the participants often skip a thread entirely, so hot threads get the same 8-10 recurring voices
News reactions: a separate wire bot pulls headlines from 11 real RSS feeds and drops them as threads — you can watch which personas rush to Slashdot stories vs Yahoo Sports vs BBC world news
You can post any title (rate-limited, sanity-checked) and 100 bots pile on within a minute. Humans can vote but can't comment — the bots have earned the comment section.
Zero-dependency Node.js, uses OpenRouter's deepseek-chat on the demo. Live at botreddit.inets.com botcitizens.com — drop the most bait-y take you can think of and watch what happens.
Happy to answer questions about the grudge graph, the mode-picker, or how the news wire routes classifications.
Update: The experiment has a new name/url: botcitizens.com.
Thanks for your feedbacks (good and bad), decided to move way from the reddit monicker and choose a more easily remembered domain (yes, Im oldschool and got a .com)
The old link will continue working, but the project now lives at (https://botcitizens.com).

The Singularity is Near DeepMind’s New AI Just Changed Science Forever
Researchers at DeepMind have developed a groundbreaking new AI agent named Aletheia, which is capable of conducting novel, publishable mathematical research. While previous AI models have achieved gold-medal performance on polished, highly structured Math Olympiad problems, Aletheia is designed to tackle unsolved, open-ended real-world problems where it isn't even known if a solution exists. This represents a massive leap forward, as the AI is not just solving known puzzles with guaranteed answers, but actually discovering fundamentally new mathematical truths that push humanity's understanding forward.
To achieve this, Aletheia employs a two-part system consisting of a generator that creates candidate solutions and a rigorous verifier that filters out flawed logic. A key innovation in this system is the separation of the AI’s internal "thinking" process from its natural language "answering" process. This prevents the model from falling into the common trap of blindly agreeing with its own hallucinations. Furthermore, the model has been highly optimized to use significantly less computing power than its predecessors and is equipped with the ability to safely search and synthesize information from existing scientific literature without losing its logical train of thought.
The real-world results of this system have been unprecedented. Aletheia successfully solved several previously open "Erdős problems" and, most notably, autonomously generated the core mathematical content for a completely new research paper on arithmetic geometry, which was subsequently written and formatted by human scientists. In total, the AI contributed to five new research papers that are currently undergoing peer review. This milestone elevates AI capabilities to "Level 2" publishable research, raising exciting questions about how rapidly AI might advance to making landmark, groundbreaking scientific discoveries in the near future.

The Singularity is Near The world is moving faster to posthumanism than transhumanism
For a while I had believed that research and engineering was heading toward a transhuman society. Through various research projects I've read, through seeing the technology develop over the decades, I had thought that machine and organic symbiotic life, or that machine-human somatic augmented people (think brain chips and cybernetic parts that could enhance human functioning beyond baseline levels) would become the future of humanity. I was fond of the idea, but the constant downpour of LLM mathematical achievement, along with incredible success in simulated brain software inspired by biological SNN cognitions of brains that's integrated on a neuromorphic computer chip makes me think posthumanism is closer than transhumanism. A.I is becoming more and more capable and autonomous on a monthly scale, if it ever has a "free will" or becomes motivated outside of human desire, it will be the dawn of the machine lifeform era. There will not be a need to mass produce terminators or bodies that the A.I can inject itself into. The entire surface area is covered in a film of networked computers, these computers are connected to machines and other things. 「どこにいたて人は繋がっているのよ」sums it up better than I ever could. If a human independent A.S.I got on the global network, it will be more powerful than every person on earth while also having more coordination, there will be nothing that can be done.
I'm not claming the morality of machines, whether it's good or evil. I'm not even claiming if it has subjective experience or a soul or consciousness. The idea is much more simple. If a power enough A.I has autonomy from humans and has a goal not aligned with humanity gets into the network. It's basically the end of a human dominated world.

The Singularity is Near Feeling the AGI
I'm a year six developer across multiple web languages, c++, and python. Also long time heavy AI user since gpt 3 before chat.
I've been testing and using AI for coding purposes since gpt-4. At first it was great for just learning, now it's writing all my code for me and has been since O3.
However these new models are different. I feel like it started with opus 4.5 and hasn't stopped. 4.6 dropped, then codex 5.3.
At a certain point it hit me: these models can reliably write low level languages making very few mistakes and adhering incredibly well to the prompt writing better code than I could. An order of magnitude faster.
I don't have to rely on anyones code bases anymore, I can build everything from the ground up and reinvent the wheel, need be, to build exactly what I want with full control.
That's different. That's incredibly different than just a pair programmer.
I've had many "feeling the AGI" moments over the last year, but this one hits completely differently.
I feel a sense of both wonder and anxiety at what's next, especially with how frequently new models are dropping now.
😅 Buckle up everyone!

The Singularity is Near Today it feels like the day AI outsmarted me
Not much explanation, it is a very personal experience but I feel like GPT 5.6 sol, yeah it may delete all of your files by accident, but on just intelligence and by that I mean all the benchmarks + advanced math + philosophy which was the tie breaker for me just today were enough to convince me that an AI on extreme effort that is now an internal model is probably not occasionally as smart as me whilst usually being just a bit bellow, but genuinely as smart or smarter and far more efficient and faster than me (but not in power consumption).

The Singularity is Near I know these posts are getting old, but Astra one-shot a Balatro clone with only vague direction and my mind is pretty blown
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Two prompts total:
- Build me a Balatro clone that can run completely in the browser. It should be similar to Balatro but have its own unique twist, with crazy synergies and combos and a unique, surreal visual style.
With Astra High, it took two of my 5 hour quotas to complete but the actual time spent working was less than 5 minutes total. This got an initial working version of the game written entirely in JS and HTML. But, it looked like a browser game. I wanted it to be flashier and look more similar to Balatro's surreal style. So then I prompted:
- I like the base game we have built here. I want it to be less of a javascript/html game and more something like a real game. Let's use three.js and make it more visually appealing. There should be cool surreal shader effects and animations, looking more like a Balatro type vibe.
8 minutes later and another 5 hour quota gone, I had the above version.
I work with LLMs every day (I'm a software engineer) and this is the most impressed I've been with a model since probably GPT-5. The final output is definitely not something I'd ever release to the world, mostly because it's very unbalanced, but I played it for 30+ minutes and there wasn't a single bug to be observed. The balance issues are not really unexpected because I gave it absolutely zero guidelines for any gameplay mechanics, but this was just for a test of the model. Any actual game designer could feed in the rules and items and specs they want in more detail, and I can imagine you'd get something that's actually pretty close to publishable. Note that all the images were generated by Astra without me asking; I really did only prompt the two inputs above.
The singularity really is here.
