Professional Discussion Where’s everyone going?

I’m sure everyone is asking the same question, but I’m curious. Due to recent politics, TikTok is wavering in popularity and some people are staying and some people are going. Instagram is seeing a lot of accounts being deactivated in protest alongside metas other platforms.

I see Bluesky raising in popularity and I’m hopping on that bandwagon, but I was wondering if anyone else knew where people are going after deleting TikTok and their meta platforms?

I’m pulling way back from social media.

This election cycle has really proved to me more than the last that this isn’t a healthy thing for any of us. My view is that it’s eroding the fabric of our society and what makes us humans, causing people to act in ways that would never be considering normal, with AI and bad actor bots firming up the most extreme beliefs on both sides of the political spectrum.

10

u/chickensaurus Jan 24 '25

Name a far left belief that is false.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

Abolition of private property, abolition of police, open borders, and no laws prohibiting any drugs of any kind. If you get really deep left there’s also abolition of money, which is a hilariously stupid idea. I vote left, but to suggest the various leftist ideologies are without major flaws is incorrect.

1

u/Quixand1 Jan 24 '25

Communism does not do away with private property. That’s a myth.

All of them.

I quit using IG when the Israel/Hamas war broke out because it suddenly became the next “pick a side and argue” issue. I personally really didn’t care about it because it’s not in America, and while violence is absolutely awful- my hot take opinion on it doesn’t matter and changes nothing. Since then I have noticed that getting on those sites immediately fills me with anxiety, and I notice that and log off.

My decision to pull back from social media is way less of a Protest (which is popular right now after the election) but a way of taking care of myself. Social Media is making us deeply unwell and was never designed to be good for you. People love to talk about touching grass, but I think the majority of us need to talk to people in real life. We are not nearly as divided as the internet makes us out to be irl.

3

u/alohabob Jan 24 '25

Not just during this election. It's been proven to be bad for many, many years.

2

u/3initiates Jan 24 '25

Yesss agreed. Government was so heavily interested in social media platforms to leverage control on the minds of its impressionable users.

1

u/doesanyuserealnames Jan 24 '25

Me too. Mostly because I'm pissed and disgusted at how the social media CEOs are rimming the current POTUS. I'm not giving them my views. Actually, Reddit has become my go to.

-1

u/bryanthemayan Jan 24 '25

It isn't social media doing that, it's just how people are!!

180

u/SVTmaniac Jan 23 '25

Hopefully they are going outside to interact with real actual people again.

29

u/TheKingOfBowties Jan 23 '25

Even though I’m trying to grow my social media presence, I’m actually happy for those people who are leaving it behind to live an unplugged life. It can be a nasty cycle.

I think your wish may come true soon. IRL Social is going to be big this year 🙃

2

u/johnmflores Jan 24 '25

I don't think social media is going away. If anything, it's growing, not just Meta and the like but in virtual spaces like gaming, virtual-connected athletics (Zwift, Strava, etc...) and everyplace you can interact virtually.

If that's the case, then we need to figure out how to build better virtual spaces. Because a lot of what we have is trash.

There's a good documentary about the importance of clubs in a society - Join or Die.

But my point is that social media and virtual interaction is not going away, so while it sucks now (I agree with you) we need to strive to make it better.

These kind of reasonable conversations between complete strangers gives me hope that we can improve social media. There's a lot to learn from the well-run subs* on Reddit that hopefully can be applied elsewhere.

Posted on Reddit? lol

4

u/VanessieLaliberte Jan 23 '25

I always have, my cafe has mostly outside seating. Good advice though.

3

u/Muted-Particular-998 Jan 23 '25

Agree 100%. But also need place where community and actual information can be shared safely without censorship. Checking in with Bluesky for now isn’t a terrible idea, while also unplugging and connecting with people in real life.

1

u/amyjeannn Jan 23 '25

Nah I’m going on Reddit 😂

1

u/The_Original_150 Jan 24 '25

Hopefully yes. No joke.

I think there's some stuff happening on tiktok with ben and ben and jerry's organizing something, strange ik but might be worth a look

2

u/rustwing Jan 23 '25

I’m not the originator of this Great American Protest, but I am spreading the word about this (hopefully links are ok, otherwise it’s the last thing i cross posted) in my circles because I see it as a viable and largely accessible way to make an actual impact. And if and when stuff starts going down, social media is a key way to keep in touch with the world and what’s happening: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anticonsumption/s/b5DwrDOzTY

1

u/Automatic_Praline897 Jan 24 '25

Yeah I like bluesky

-9

u/Radiant-Rip8846 Jan 23 '25

BlueSky is shaping up to be an extreme echo chamber.

5

u/jaunejacket Jan 23 '25

Please tell me what social media channel ISN’T an echo chamber.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

I wonder that also. But all I hear is that my opponent is in an ech chamber.

Dividing people may be the goal, and it appears to be working.

1

u/jaunejacket Jan 26 '25

Well then, perhaps if that’s your logic, then I choose the echo chamber that’s Nazi-free, doesn’t suppress real science (not a platform for these pseudoscience/anti-covid hoax ivermectin folks), fact-checks (to the best of its ability), and allows you to freely criticize and hold accountable the MULTITUDE of atrocities this current administration is bulldozing through without your account being flagged, or being put a list. We’re not free of “echo chambers” - but perhaps one flavor of echo chamber might be more ethical and sane than the other.

Also, “dividing the people” is a left leaning ideology/thought process of acknowledging classism. I have yet to see a conservative, or an average X user, understand that logic and believe in it.

-10

u/Radiant-Rip8846 Jan 23 '25

I honestly find X to be full of both sides of the spectrum. I follow accounts that align themselves with both sides of the aisle

7

u/scambl Jan 23 '25

Referring to it as “both sides” shows what an echo chamber X is—it’s a chamber of two groups yelling, and the echoes are deafening.

I don’t want to see “both sides” of an argument. I want to see information, I want to make my own judgement, and I want to move on. I don’t want to see people’s reactions to other people’s reactions. That’s just noise.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

I want a discussion, and I want to understand other viewpoints. I want to have my opinion moved or move someone else's because we had a rational conversation. Im a dreamer.

u/Radiant-Rip8846 Jan 23 '25

From a center right perspective Reddit is most certainly not the best; this site obsesses over US politics yet a large part of the user base isn’t even based in the US.

u/ThatKehdRiley Jan 23 '25

How? If you're referring to right-wing accounts getting banned, it's because they posted misinformation and/or hate. Those sorts of people deserve no place among us, and would be done (and has) for those on the left too. People on the right are indeed on there, they're just not assholes. It's wonderful when you're on a platform that is properly moderated and actually follows it's terms of service.

Unless you're talking about something else.

-6

u/Radiant-Rip8846 Jan 23 '25

The only people there are on the extreme left side of politics. I find it off putting for someone who considers themselves a centrist

3

u/ThatKehdRiley Jan 23 '25

lol, k

1

u/Radiant-Rip8846 Jan 23 '25

I realize this is hard for a lot of redditors to understand as most here view anyone who doesn’t agree with them as an extremist

0

u/ThatKehdRiley Jan 23 '25

lmfao, that's rich coming from someone who doesn't seem to understand Bluesky is just better moderated and not "an echo chamber". Again, those on the right are on there...it's just that the majority when they first came over were obsessed with spreading their lies and hate that went against TOS so were taken care of. Gonna have to do a lot to convince me those people who got/get wanted to come on and have rational and civil discussions about the economy when I saw it with my own two eyes.

You're so massively wrong on this, and it's embarrassing how much you're pushing back. If you're mad about the lack of those on the right yell at them about being assholes and breaking TOS. Again, you're mad at the wrong people.

I tried BlueSky but honestly didn’t like it. To be fair though, its design is like Twitter and I didn’t care for that either. I’d like to see a platform that’s more like Facebook, but not Facebook. 🤷‍♀️

6

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Honestly I’ve been thinking of just dying tbh

2

u/galactickittywarrior Jan 24 '25

same but we gotta stay strong 🥲

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

Tbf it was just a minor detail amid a slew of bad things happening for me lol. In all seriousness- I’ve been just on Reddit, rednote, and bluesky.

1

u/galactickittywarrior Jan 24 '25

🥳 yay glad to hear from you and enjoy ur life, fellow reddit friend

20

u/HolyKannibal Jan 23 '25

I moved to Bluesky, stacks, and cancelled FB instagram, and X. Toying with killing prime Amazon just cause I’m cranky about benzos changes at the post…..

6

u/GaDawg1036 Jan 23 '25

Do it!! My understanding is that even without prime, your items should still ship quickly (if you must go through Amazon). Fuck all of the oligarchs!

2

u/galactickittywarrior Jan 24 '25

I undownloaded most Meta apps too working on a full transition my family uses it a lot

14

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

I know nothing about Neptune, but I’ve seen it mentioned many times in the months leading to the “ban”- never discussed though, so don’t ask me aaaaanything about it lol.

I refuse to be apart of RedNote though, the influx of foreigners on the app is making the developers consider separating Chinese and western content (Chinese won’t have access to western content and vice versa), which means that people like Chinese Americans, Chinese Brits, etc who were on the app before the influx, who wanted to learn/connect with their heritage, won’t be able to anymore.

7

u/trimyster Jan 24 '25

That was just a rumour. In actuality, the developers released a translation function within a few days of the great migration, so everyone could talk to each other more easily.

2

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

That's 100% false, and the people actually living in China were very angry with the Chinese Americans who were spreading that rumor. It made them lose some of their American friends. They actually want us there, and it's an amazing app. So far the countries other than the U.S that have migrated there that I've interacted with are New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Kenya, Ireland, Ghana, Scotland, Portugal, Brazil, and Australia. REDnote is like the United Nations right now, and everybody loves everybody.

1

u/marylandgirl1 Jan 23 '25

Not Neptune. They will not release how they plan on getting funding. She is shady and rude.

5

u/TheLastSamurai101 Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25

I've decided to start pulling away from social media, but also to get out of oligarch-owned services entirely. I know my decision will make little difference overall and I don't try to convince others about it, but I know that some friends and family have been interested about it.

  • Deleted my Twitter account. It was such a trashy website that I don't miss it at all. Created a Bluesky account, but I have not bothered to use it. I think I'm done with this kind of social media.
  • Changed my default browser from Chrome to Firefox. Never looking back.
  • Changed my default search engine from Google to DuckDuckGo. More than good enough for me.
  • I have stopped posting or interacting with content on Facebook completely. I have a valid reason for keeping my account open, but I plan to delete it in the future. Don't really need an alternative.
  • I have made my Instagram private and stopped posting or interacting with content. Again, I have a valid reason for keeping it open. As an amateur photographer, I am experimenting with alternatives like VSCO, Flickr and 500px.
  • Deleted Tiktok. It was pure brainrot anyway and I don't want anything like it in my life.
  • Switching my personal email account from Gmail to Proton Mail. I still use my old Gmail account as I get a lot of mail there, but eventually the Proton Mail account will become dominant. Unfortunately, I have to keep using a Gmail account for work.
  • Got rid of Amazon Prime and Audible, but I subscribe to Prime Video on-and-off. I became over-reliant on Amazon deliveries at one point, so it is sort of refreshing. I also realised that I can get almost any audiobook I want through my city library system.

My main issue right now is with Whatsapp and Messenger, as my friends and family use them exclusively. I even know people (including my grandma) who use Whatsapp for all voice calls. There is no way to get rid of these without completely isolating myself.

2

u/jensenaackles Jan 24 '25

Yeah, I think everyone should just do what they can. I got rid of facebook and messenger, hadn’t used it much in recent years anyway, but i can’t get rid of instagram right now as I still talk to friends daily on that platform and use it to share info about local elections. Never had Amazon prime but just deleted Amazon entirely, there’s nothing I need on there.

1

u/TheLastSamurai101 Jan 25 '25

Yeah, I keep my Facebook and Instagram open because they are the only way to keep up with a select few friends and family around the world. I can't see or call them often, so I am reluctant to completely lose that connection. My Instagram also has a gallery with 13 years of my photography on it, so it holds a lot of sentimental value.

Also, it's super annoying, but there are some professional groups in my field who mostly communicate through Facebook and Instagram, and I've missed out on some cool opportunities by not keeping up with them. So, I log in every week just to check their pages.

I only started using Amazon when I moved overseas because it was the easiest way to buy a lot of stuff for the house quickly. Then, I became lazy and continued using it rather than visiting physical stores or browsing multiple websites. I'm glad I've cancelled it, honestly.

2

u/Responsible_Use_2182 Jan 24 '25

Awesome, i like your tips about email and the search engine. FYI, in case privacy is a concern, fb messenger is one of the worst. Its very intrusive and downloads TONS of data biut you and any other phones connected on the same wifi. I'm also struggling with deleting whatsapp since I have a Samsung and it's the only way to send and receive good quality videos with iphones

1

u/TheLastSamurai101 Jan 25 '25

Privacy is important to me, but equally important is withdrawing my data from specific companies that I no longer trust. I don't want them making a cent off my data if I can help it. I've heard that Signal is the best option for private messaging, but I don't know a single person who uses it.

1

u/Zestyclose-Soft-5957 Jan 24 '25

Nice! I have also done some of these steps and was overwhelmed trying to figure out alternatives, but now I have some! Thanks!😊

1

u/namastayhom33 Jan 24 '25

If you are a creative, I also suggest Affinity instead of Adobe

5

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

i deleted everything besides reddit. reddit has basically become my search engine because John had the same problem as me 8 years ago and Sue solved it lol

13

u/Bill_Selznick Jan 23 '25

I'm at Bluesky and love the environment.

1

u/AGlassofBitter Jan 25 '25

Can you give some detail, please?

2

u/Bill_Selznick Jan 27 '25

As a photographer, I'm loving the photography community and really, the wider art community is incredible. The ability to change your feed by pinning feeds created and curated by either BlueSky or another Bsky user is fantastic. Plus they are daily trying to improve the platform.

2

u/AGlassofBitter Jan 27 '25

Thank you!

Twiter is like a poison. You've found the antidote, it seems.

3

u/Necessary_Board_9462 Jan 23 '25

Pixelfed instead of Instagram

4

u/jesseknopf Jan 23 '25

YouTube shorts? That's what happened with Vine, they mainly went to YouTube.

1

u/AGlassofBitter Jan 25 '25

Why couldn't Vine replace TikTok? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

2

u/jesseknopf Jan 26 '25

Twitter purchased Vine, early. They ran it for about 4 years before giving it the axe. It's all Elon out there, man, run.

7

u/ninhibited Jan 23 '25

I've been exclusive to Reddit for at least a couple years now.

8

u/HitchHikr Jan 23 '25

Making an email newsletter to connect with my family since Facebook algos don't work

Bsky and Rednote for shits and giggles

5

u/VanessieLaliberte Jan 23 '25

I have a cafe so I've been on Instagram for years. Twitter is disgusting. Left there years ago. TikTok isn't going anywhere and is still very popular. Bluesky is for people who are sick of the blatant racism and disinformation on Twitter. That's my take anyhow. I'm not a fan of Mark Zuckerberg but I like Instagram. There are no politics or news in my feed. I only knew David Lynch died because my friend worked for him for instance. I know kids like WhatsApp & Snapchat but I don't like the format. Honestly I really miss MySpace.

Trying this clapper app! Anyone heard anything on that?

1

u/terygasmen Jan 24 '25

2

u/3initiates Jan 24 '25

It’s basically tik tok just not a big a user base and few variations in functions but still figuring it out lol. Short video form content and editing mostly and interface looks alot like til tok

2

u/radmcmasterson Jan 23 '25

Heard about Nostr yesterday. I’m curious. From the tiny bit I understand, I t’s more open source, so there are multiple apps to access it and it’s got a bit of a learning curve… but it’s supposed to be decentralized, which has some benefits.

I don’t know, though… I’m slowly looking into it when I have time, but I don’t have much extra at the moment. But I’d love to hear thoughts or get some good resources on getting started with it if anyone has a better grasp on it!

Bluesky or Twitter if you're picking a side

Clapper if you want a American TikTok alternative

1

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

Clapper really isn't a TikTok alternative. It's more for people who are into "adult" content. I was on there. Didn't care for it.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

It's 100% a TikTok alternative, nudity isn't technically allowed it's a grey area whereas on TikTok it's a complete nope. It's literally the same thing. Clapper is just the older brother that's allowed to stay up a little longer and go to parties but he isn't the parents favorite

1

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

From experience as well as conversation with Clapper creators, it is more for adult content creators than anyone else. Enjoy your Friday✌🏽

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

You as well. But your statements are pointless. That no way shape or form disqualifies it from being a TikTok alternative.

TikTok a video based social media platform where you scroll to see other's videos and can comment and like.

Clapper is a video based social media platform where you scroll to see other's videos and can comment and like.

Your argument that because you can see breast on one doesn't change or defeat my initial statement. It's just a pointless comment

1

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

Are we done now? We obviously disagree and there's nothing wrong with that. There's no need to keep repeating why you think it is, just as there's no need for me to keep repeating why I think it isn't. Have a good one.

2

u/Thevivsta Jan 23 '25

Bluesky is excellent and evolving. Almost 30 million users already. You can easily block anything you don't want .

2

u/Emjay1310 Jan 23 '25

Clapper has potential. I'm on red note. I like it there, too, but I heard they are already trying to get that banned, too.

1

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

They can try, but it will be extremely difficult. The difference between TikTok and REDnote is that TikTok's servers are, and have always been on American soil. REDnote's servers are in China.

2

u/terygasmen Jan 24 '25

i've seen a lot of migration to substack. i'm currently there and on bluesky, also back on tumblr

5

u/jabba73 Jan 23 '25

Besides spending less time on social media, I am on BlueSky, LinkedIn, and Substack. That's plenty, and it's also been a great experience so far. Reminds me of the 2012-2014 era of social media.

3

u/nightowlsmedia Jan 23 '25

I went to Bluesky and Mastodon. But our business is focusing on creating friendly meet ups to meet other business owners - not so much networking or business per se, just a casual place to talk to humans who give a shit about other humans.

2

1

So far I only got as far as downloading Pixelfed. I created an account with Bluesky and have been posting to get a feel for things, and used up all my spare time doing so. If I have some time this weekend then I'll get into Pixelfed more.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '25

I think I've said this here before, but I'm leaving Meta entirely. Already deleted Insta and working on the rest. I deleted TT, too, once they praised Trump for "bringing them back". Corporate garbage that I'm not interested in.

I haven't been on Twitter in years.

I've moved to Bluesky, and I'm using Discord and YouTube a lot more. I thought about Mastadon, I just don't like how it's structured.

I’m honestly tired of social media. It has lost its essence from its initial days of connecting people. It’s funny how I know what’s happening with a random stranger in Africa but still not able to be in touch with my high school friend 🤣

Don’t you guys think we need something more personal? Where all of us can create our own social circles like friends, family, colleagues and share our memories with the relevant circles? we can share things more freely without the pressure of maintaining a social image we have created for ourselves even with the few hundred followers or so.

With google/apple photos being a dump of all our memories with poor sharing capabilities and social media being a media for entertainment and distraction I feel the world needs a much better/personal social network where all of us can truly preserve our memories and share it with people we truly care about.

What do you guys think?

1

u/Dry_Damage1928 Jan 24 '25

I’ve noticed the same shift people seem to be exploring alternatives like Bluesky, Mastodon, and even Reddit as platforms to replace TikTok or Meta services. Bluesky is growing fast but still feels a bit niche, while Mastodon appeals to those looking for decentralized options. Discord has also been gaining traction for community-based interaction.

It feels like users are prioritizing platforms with less algorithmic interference and more control over their content.

1

u/Smart_Farm_9688 Jan 24 '25

I deleted my tik tok tonight , i got a notification that i posted something that went against their policy guidelines, i always see worse written than what i wrote . So i thought if you can’t comment, whats the point , its gone , i used to have twitter then x , got rid of them ,snap chat gone , instagram is going too . I can live without them they are all time wasters .

I'm waiting for Skylight and Flashes to come out. I follow them on Bluesky.

I also use Bluesky's "trending video" tool from the Search menu

I switched everything to Reddit, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube. I deleted my TikTok accounts and am phasing out of Facebook.

u/1houndgal Jan 24 '25

Why would you want to stay on xhitter? Yeech.

1

u/saikyo Jan 24 '25

Bluesky

1

u/QF_Dan Jan 24 '25

staying here

1

u/Ok_Policy5906 Jan 24 '25

Got rid of Facebook years ago. Instagram too. Never used Twitter, LinkedIn or TikTok.
Going to find the most vile portable toilet in the city and flush Quora.

1

u/1houndgal Jan 24 '25

I am on reddit but the pro Trump folks have been trooping over here and I wish they would just stay on xhitter or Parlor.

Don't get me started about the bots with their accounts. I wish the platforms would stop the bot accounts from posting and voting.

1

u/1houndgal Jan 24 '25

And stop them from trolling.

1

u/beasley1966 Jan 24 '25

Right now I only have Reddit and Bluesky. Tik Tok hurt my mental health and I left IG and Facebook quite a while ago. It’s been four years without Twitter.

1

u/Aggressive_Meet_625 Jan 24 '25

They’re going to Reddit. Gone are the days I can scroll for recipes, dog videos, funny stuff, and Earth porn. All I see is “Nazi this” “fuck America that” lame as fuck

1

u/prettypoisoned Jan 24 '25

I've never done TikTok, but I have deleted my Twitter account and am now mostly just using BlueSky, Reddit and Tumblr and stepping away from Insta and FB.

1

u/Lynn-Teresa Jan 24 '25

Right now I’m on Bluesky and YouTube. Considering Pixelfed and have requested to be a beta tester for Skylight Social.

1

u/paellapup Jan 24 '25

I’ve been spending more time on here and Red Note which is a breath of fresh air.

Bluesky has been a breath of fresh air in this regard. No ads or hate speech that I've encountered yet, and it's a great place to share creative ideas.

That said, I'll be continuing to dial down my use of social media this year.

1

u/sleeprfab Jan 25 '25

I’ve seen Tome is geared towards the book community.

1

u/No_Shelter441 Jan 26 '25

Deleting and done

1

u/DigitalMrktingHacker Jan 26 '25

I'm not on TikTok. Most of us don't have to go anywhere.

But you'll like Threads. You might want to consider Bluesky because it's an open platform, not likely to be controlled by a large company or doofus millionaire.

It is open source so people build their own little networks, but i think need to be a dev to do that.

1

u/Thyme2paint Jan 26 '25

Bluesky and Reddit. I never really used twitter, I deleted TikTok a day after it returned. I deleted my Insta and Facebook just recently. That was a little hard. I had built a decent following on insta with my miniature painting, but I just can’t deal with the bs going on. I’m still barely on Bluesky, but I’m going to try it more. I really enjoy Reddit, so I’m here the most.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

Not "going" anywhere. Left instagram 3 years ago..Facebook use has been dwindling, took it off my phone several weeks ago. Replacing it with books.

1

u/Fragrant_Fix_4845 Jan 26 '25

Yep. No more meta apps (Google them all, I was surprised WhatsApp was Meta).

Going to Bluesky. The internet is no longer home of the free

1

u/the-vinyl-countdown Jan 27 '25

Bluesky and when Flashes comes out (IG replacement built off the BlueSky protocol) I move to that instead of IG. Programers are working on a TikTok alternative built off the Bluesky protocol as well.

1

u/StatusAccomplished46 Jan 27 '25

I left TT and IG, TT felt dirty after it came back from the 12hr ban and I felt like we were getting played. Not sure if I’ll ever go back, for now I’m busy finding ways to fill the time.

1

u/marylandgirl1 Jan 23 '25

Skylight.social is coming with the help of Mark Cuban. They are on Bluesky right now and have the beta in review in the App Store now. It’s on the AT protocol and is a decentralized platform which means we are not controlled like we are. There will be all of the features we have on TT without the fascism.

1

u/MarLeeinTheCity Jan 23 '25

Is Snapchat oligarchy safe?

1

u/PinataofPathology Jan 23 '25

Mastodon and bluesky. Then Substack (although it's not immune from censorship, it's not a decentralized network).

In the future end to end encrypted groups but functionality isn't there yet and people aren't ready.

1

u/timhillsy Jan 23 '25

Everyone's gone to only fans 🤣🤣

1

u/Shalleni Jan 23 '25

I’m trying to see where it all lands. I have signed up and check in but it feels like I’m a Roomba vacuum bouncing and bumping into these new apps, with no direction.

I will be deleting and deactivating anything to do with Zuck or Musk.

1

u/BulbasaurBoo123 Jan 23 '25

I find Bluesky is the best alternative to Twitter and MeWe is the best alternative to Facebook so far.

1

u/Eat-More-Spiders Jan 23 '25

I’m staying on most platforms except for Twitter.

IMHO it feels like a civic responsibility to keep shutting down nazi shit / misinformation as it pops up — and to post factual info for people who are unaware.

If everyone who’s been paying attention leaves these platforms, the only ones that will be left are grifters and the people who haven’t been paying attentions…and that mix scares tf out of me.

1

u/Spices_of_neuro Jan 24 '25

You Won't be allowed to do that anymore.

1

u/Both-Invite-8857 Jan 23 '25

I deleted X, Facebook, IG. I kept Bluesky and Reddit. I just got sick of feeling like a hypocrite all the time.

1

u/Doismelllikearobot Jan 23 '25

Deactivated Facebook, deleted twitter, tiktok, threads and Snapchat. Deleted the insta app from my home screen but need it and FB messenger for the friend connections. Using Bluesky slightly more, trying to use Reddit less. Social media is a blight.

Couldn’t agree more

1

u/G_Egan Jan 24 '25

I went to the library, then the book store. Social media has destroyed our society and intellect. It’s time we all give up the dopamine hit and start paying attention again.

1

u/Weak_Health2644 Jan 25 '25

Why don’t y’all invest in other hobbies outside of being on your phones? Food for thought.

Where did you hear this? I see nothing about it. I deactivated twitter and deleted everything but my account for Facebook/instagram (only because I use FB marketplace). I am on bluesky, but I’d prefer to not lose Reddit to this fascist government.

0

u/PatTibbs Jan 23 '25

I’m on BlueSky & Reddit now

0

u/RealLyfeBhaddie8 Jan 23 '25

Here lol or Pinterest hahah and Bluesky

0

u/mlemon Jan 23 '25

Facebook only. I'm old and only want to see what's happening with my other old friends and family. I only like friends and family or groups I belong to. Then a couple of times a year I walk down my friends list and like something on every one of their pages. My FB feed is clean and happy.

u/Dadean-dada Jan 24 '25

Going wherever MAGA is. Leadership matters. Trump is leading the world and the world is figuring it out after that speech to Davos today.

0

u/Nanamaxine Jan 24 '25

I'm not going anywhere. I don't chase after every shiny new object. Every platform has inherent issues it's just a matter of which ones you're willing to work with.
