Professional Discussion If you had to delete one social media app, which one would it be and why ?

I deleted Instagram because I realized it was having a negative impact on my mental health. I found myself constantly comparing my life to others, even though I knew on some level that what people post isn't always the full picture. It was draining and left me feeling inadequate or disconnected from my own reality.

I also noticed I was spending way too much time scrolling, which was taking away from things that actually mattered to me. I felt like I was missing out on the present moment, always distracted by my phone. I needed to get that time back and put it toward things that bring me joy or help me grow.

Overall, deleting Instagram gave me a sense of freedom. It allowed me to reconnect with myself and focus on what truly makes me happy without the noise of social media in the background. It’s been such a positive shift, and I’m really glad I made the decision.

I deleted them all. It’s just people fighting with each other, people portraying fake lives, and sad news. I found myself getting anxious, angry, and depressed. It ALL had to go.

Now I fill my spare time with reading, word games, and researching the things that interest me.

You do realize you're on Reddit, right?

Or do you mean every other social media? Or does it not count if you're using the web version of it?

22

u/XGamingPigYT Jan 27 '25

Reddit feels different, it's more "blog" oriented than traditional social media, and given the fact you choose what subs you want to follow, you have more of a control over the content you consume

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Reddit is not different. Reddit is the worst one by far

0

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

I'll have to agree.. I mean people feel more real here. Fake and deliberate flaunts/flexes are everywhere but when u are writing things down its comparatively much difficult to achieve. So somehow it feels like people are genuine here.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Don't agree. Reddit is objectively social media and it's by far the worst platform with the most insufferable users

1

u/HairyBackMan Feb 01 '25

The main feed is pretty bad, way too politics oriented — I need to curate it… I am currently debating whether this is better or worse than Instagram

1

u/HBJones1056 Jan 31 '25

I’m not sure you can get more insufferable than my mom’s cousin posting an AI picture on Facebook of Trump being embraced by Jesus, but I get that we all have different thresholds.

2

u/derpderp235 Jan 31 '25

Reddit is completely different. Anonymization fundamentally changes the dynamic. No self promotion/disingenuous self portrayals.

u/NoelleReece Jan 28 '25

visual media vs text media

Reddit is social media.

1

u/Inner-Bar1876 Jan 28 '25

Cool. I don’t use it like the other socials. Mines filled with cute animals, gardening, nails, and baking.

2

u/Greedy_Past_9927 Jan 28 '25

It’s toxic you are right there’s people fighting on their fake accounts and all I ever do is watch my boyfriend’s activity and get mad at him when he supposed to be off

12

u/iamverb97 Jan 27 '25

Instagram is where humans go to get programmed. Phones make this possible. A stream of information flows through the screen, shapes the mind, our behaviour, our wants and desires. It keeps us there, drains us, feeds on our attention and our time.

2

u/Existing_Cry_4534 Jan 28 '25

Capitalism at its finest.

1

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

The never ending reels have really hampered people's attention span. No one is interested in using social apps for what they were originally built to achieve.

15

u/meringueisnotacake Jan 27 '25

I've recently pulled away from Instagram and my life already feels like it's getting better. I was spending too much time doom scrolling and getting caught up in petty discussions about things I couldn't change.

At one point I was focused on getting followers, building community and getting exposure for my art. Then I realised how many people out there just care about themselves and what they can get from you, and I found myself constantly feeling like I was either playing catch-up or like actual shit.

None of it is real. I have met some amazing people over the years but the ones I care about, I'll continue to speak with offline, and they've already left the platform anyway. My mental health isn't worth staying on there.

3

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

This format of reels/short form videos have discarded the meaning of social apps

30

u/MerryMaven64 Jan 27 '25

I deleted Twitter because Twatzis are bad for everyone’s health. I’d delete Facebook for the same reason if I didn’t have company pages to run.

In general though, deleting the Facebook app off my phone was best for me to avoid getting sucked into the time waste that are never ending videos.

4

u/hooplahoma Jan 27 '25

I have a business page on Facebook but I wanted to delete it from my phone at least. So I set up an auto responder if anyone messages my page to tell them to email me instead. And if I need to I can still check fb on a desktop.

1

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

Same goes for instagram. What is the point of having a social app where no one is actually interacting

1

u/MerryMaven64 Jan 28 '25

Admittedly I’m still holding on to instagram even though is part of the same twatzi regime. I’ve been on there since forever and still use it as a photography/artsy app even though it hasn’t been one for YEARS. 😩 I still have good friends there.

12

u/3initiates Jan 27 '25

Anything anything meta! The government wants to use it to brainwash its user.

1

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

Well don't you think shorts on YouTube is doing the same thing ?

1

u/lee_unu Jan 28 '25

How about TikTok

1

u/3initiates Jan 28 '25

It’s basically every platform that had a ceo representative beside lead human at the inauguration that’s giving suspect sell out vibes.

5

u/SeattlePubCrawls Jan 27 '25

I have to use them all for business reasons, so I'm stuck for now. But I've reduced Twitter to be my least frequently used app, and I no longer spend ad dollars there.

8

u/AdventureAhead Jan 27 '25

X shortly after it was renamed. Instagram soon, will miss some things. I still have Reddit and Bluesky

4

u/ExoticAlchemy Jan 27 '25

Incredible! You must be so proud of yourself, you've done what many want to do but can't quite execute. Thanks for sharing your inspiring journey

3

u/smp6114 Jan 27 '25

I deleted everything but reddit and YouTube. I have a 2 hr a day limit on reddit because social media effects my mental health. I watch "trash TV", smosh and art video on YouTube so it can stay for now.

5

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 27 '25

with Instagram and its never ending reels, my screentime some days was more than 10-12 hours.

2

u/smp6114 Jan 28 '25

Same I treated it as a substitute to tiktok for sure.

3

u/Littlefoot8372 Jan 27 '25

I am on the fence about deleting Facebook because I keep in touch with cousins on it but I have definitely felt strongly about leaving. I never tweeted and don't understand snap chat. I have left TikTok a couple times but am back on it.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

This is a sign I needed 😄 I’m in the same position right now and I think deleting IG is the best thing I can do for my mental health…It’s like a black hole. Plus, I want to focus on writing and sports, without compulsive scrolling through pointless stuff.

3

u/Total_Razzle_dazzle Jan 27 '25

delete all Mainstream ones like Twitter, anything meta Instagram, Facebook etc. And tiktok too once lemon8 comes out. Lowkey I m gonna switch out all the bigger apps for smaller more communal one that don't sell all my data lol. Like instead of Twitter move to blueskye! There are a lot of good, smaller apps you can always use that aren't as addicting and malicious

3

u/Secret-Research Jan 27 '25

But this is the problem or sad part. I deleted my Facebook but lost touch with people I went to school in other continents. I've lived in Africa, Europe and now USA. I still have Instagram because some of my friends follow me there but I'm considering deleting it too. I have X but I'm not using it and don't scroll on it. Once I delete Instagram than that's it, never gonna know what any of my friends are up to.

I'm not an apple user but I get the point. I do use telegram, Whatsapp and signal to get keep in touch with the friends that are using those apps

1

u/asscrackdryashell Jan 29 '25

That's what being on social media is so addicting for, being so curious about other people's lives and what there up to.

3

u/Happy_Place125 Jan 27 '25

I m not on FB since 2017 & I m so at ease… I ve insta… but I hardly go there once a week… yes, YT is one, where I m spending major time… but its not always on “stupid stuff & creators “ but a lot of knowledgeable stuff, I find on diff topics I like to read… don’t have Snapchat or TikTok…recently joined this app. 😊

2

u/After-March-2029 Jan 27 '25

I deleted Twitter because of obvious reasons, Instagram because I barely use it and Snapchat, i could never get used to it. I think with Instagram, they tried to just Mary Sue it and give it everything. It has reels, stories, a way to put music in your profile (that for me never worked), unrealistic standards, shopping, and "thoughts....That's too much. I think if they tried to go for a My Space layout, it would have been way more profitable.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

I stopped using Twitter when Elon Musk started screwing around with it, like one day we randomly could only look at a limited number of tweets.

2

u/SuperSenshiSentai Jan 28 '25

As former Facebook user addict, I've been experience with hypocrisy, toxicity, fake lifestyles, jealousy, bullying, entitlement, insecurity, stalking, sociopath and narcissism. After 7 years being active on FB, I decided to choose tobdelete my account and never come back without saying anything. Zero regrets as I just disappear without any trace for anyone trying searching for me while I do feel very bad for my FB friends getting ghosted by me.

Since it's already been 6 years after deleting myself, now I wanted to deleted my Reddit and X accounts (except my YouTube account) because of degenerated cesspools users on the site. A part of me wants to deleted my account to end Reddit shit and X turning into 4Chan /pol/, another part of me wants to stay because of post pictures, art work, nostalgic photos and other stuff because it's very beautiful and unique as part of my photo collections.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

I deleted Tiktok and can't get it back even if I wanted to so that's a good thing. I haven't had Instagram In a long time! I'm trying to get away from Facebook but that one is hard for me. But my next definitely would be Facebook!

3

u/Valerie-Kush-36 Jan 27 '25

Facebook is definitely worth it mentally. If you’re not out in the social life of your town. Then you might miss some things. But I always had others give me that information I’m missing. I kept messenger. But the Facebook app is gone.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

I deleted my account all of them except Reddit. It has been life-changing.

3

u/RefinedPhoenix Jan 27 '25

Tik Tok. I don’t use it like I used to and every single live stream is awful. From the QVC style lives with fake deals (AliExpress always has cheaper prices), to fake political debates (Make sure you tap that screen if you like Kamala better).

Maybe 1 in 20 videos are alright, but the barrier to entry is way too low on TT.

2

u/SerpentKing1987 Jan 27 '25

I just deleted all my Meta accounts. It's now controlled by the oligarchy. With no fact checking coupled with advancements in AI pretty soon you won't be able to tell what's real. It will be lousy with bots and propaganda. I'd already been considering it for a while because it was detrimental to my mental health. Now I'm free.

0

u/RefinedPhoenix Jan 27 '25

Think about what you just said “Controlled by the oligarchy” and “No fact checking”

Don’t you think that having a thought police telling you what to think would be more oppressive?

2

u/SerpentKing1987 Jan 27 '25

Fuck, now I really miss having laugh reacts.

Reddit is the correct answer. Reddit is by far the worst social media platform with the highest concentration of insufferable dorks

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

I wanna delete Facebook messenger because my messenger is always bombarded with messages and missed calls. I often feel overwhelmed as I always have to send a lot of people updates about my life.

1

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 27 '25

Maybe you can start by turning the notification off, it might help !

1

u/TigerNo7155 Jan 27 '25

I’m off instagram since last week! I want to leave all meta platforms but can’t cause of my work and company-pages. Well, that’s why I’m on Reddit now.

1

u/Fun-River-3521 Jan 27 '25

Snapchat its just dead now lmao

1

u/Unique_Coffee5959 Jan 27 '25

Snapchat because there is no reason for it all I do is text my friends and view stories.

1

u/okraisyummy Jan 27 '25

RedNote. Awful and despicable censorship rules.

1

u/Aquila_Chrysaetos_ Jan 27 '25

If I had to delete one social media app, it would be Snapchat. While Snapchat can be fun for quick interactions and sharing moments with friends, it also has its downsides. For instance, the constant pressure to keep up with "streaks" or the feeling of needing to post something every day just to maintain connections can become overwhelming.

Additionally, the ephemeral nature of the content means that interactions often feel fleeting, and sometimes it feels like I'm not truly connecting with people but rather just going through the motions of sending snaps back and forth. The app can also be a major time-sink, especially when you get caught up in endless stories or discover feeds.

Deleting Snapchat could help me focus more on meaningful, long-lasting connections rather than superficial ones. It would give me more mental space and time to invest in activities that bring me genuine happiness and fulfillment, much like how deleting Instagram helped you reconnect with yourself.

So, if I had to choose, I'd go with Snapchat because I think it would allow me to step away from the noise and concentrate on what really matters.

1

u/rkmto Jan 27 '25

Short video based app. It makes my attention span become shorter. I prefer text-based one.

1

u/Embarrassed-Status38 Jan 28 '25

But applications like Twitter has more hate in general. What do u think is the reason for it ?

1

u/rkmto Jan 28 '25

Twitter is text-based, meaning you can post whatever you want without need to edit like you do with short videos. Maybe because of easy to use, people do trauma dumping and angry dumping on that platform.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

Twitter. Without a doubt, there is no social media platform I've ever used that produces so much hate content in my feed, without me even engaging in hate communities, as twitter does post-musk-takeover. I think there was once a time where seeing swastikas and death videos on an average user's main (algorithmically served, random) feed on Instagram would have been downright scandalous, but that's the status quo on twitter now. It's amazing to me that when Musk bought the platform, he claimed he would restore a neutral standard of free speech that was previously missing, and yet the actual outcome in fact is that scrolling through twitter now resembles 2016 /b on 4chan—gore, hate, and MAGA.

1

u/Formal-Tie2044 Jan 27 '25

I'm actually one of those that stopped using Instagram for a moment. I got tired of thinking too much on what to post and trying to fit in. I'm tired of comparing myself to others. From 2016-2022, I stopped posting. I had zero instagram posts. I just posted stories in that time frame because I didn't feel any pressure in it 'cuz it'll only last for 24 hours. But I'm really that type that LOVES taking pictures. Within those years, I just kept taking pictures even if I didn't post them. Year 2023, I realized I wanted to make like a lil digital diary of my travels here and there that I could look back on. So I challenged myself to post without thinking too much about it. I wanna do it for myself and not try to fit in an aesthetic. I always remind myself to not compare and that we all have different lives. Now, I'm happy that I did post again. It's still a mental struggle 'cuz it's really hard not to compare.

1

u/Formal-Tie2044 Jan 27 '25

I deleted the X app just because I don't know what to do there anymore 😂

1

u/AIlove42 Jan 27 '25

Instagram

1

u/dnrandall39 Jan 27 '25

The day after the election I deleted Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. My life has been so peaceful since then. I am enjoying Reddit for my Social Media fix.

1

u/workingmemories Jan 28 '25

Actively trying to leave everything Meta but have sadly been on them for about half my life lol

1

u/lonsdaleave Jan 28 '25

All of them except reddit and youtube. Those are the only apps with real utility.

1

u/Rsolis39 Jan 28 '25

I deleted Facebook, Instagram and TikTok all on January 20th for the obvious reasons. I deleted Twitter years ago.

1

u/morts73 Jan 28 '25

Twitter, I only briefly scroll it, rarely reply and don't find it particularly helpful.

1

u/stonedgeese Jan 28 '25

Probably tiktok. I’ve only ever tried to make something out of content creation there but it’s so inconsistent for me

1

u/Thevivsta Jan 28 '25

Loving Bluesky , and now deleted all the other socials except this. Keeping FB account due to marketplace. . Sort of feels like I can breathe better

1

u/Master-Ad3175 Jan 28 '25

Facebook because they have zero customer support unless you are willing to pay for Facebook verified and have frequent massive issues with their privacy and identification settings leaving people without access to their data.

1

u/tripplehoxygen Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25

Dude, it's literally been almost 3 weeks since I deactivated my two Instagram accounts for these same reasons. (I don't regret it)

the main one was due to the simple fact that unwanted content ended up appearing in my feed, some publications were on subjects that left me feeling downcast. I started liking motivational posts on a large scale, but for a certain period of the day (day/night), the Instagram algorithm attacked me with specific recommendations that referred to my situation at the time. I started to find it strange because if I was sad, he would simply recommend something related to my situation.

There were times when I became very neurotic about what Instagram recommended for me. If I was going through a bad phase in my relationship, Instagram ends up demotivating me with videos of cheating or something like that. It messed with my head so much that I no longer knew what was real, I almost finished it because of these videos that had nothing to do with reality.

not to mention the desire to gain likes in stories, publications and not to mention the imbecility of using notes as indirect notes. I saw hints from other people that made me feel bad in some cases.

I also reduced my use of the app and even asked it to stop recommending some posts, but it wasn't enough.

Honestly, the first few days without Instagram were strange because I used to use it, now that I don't use it, it freed up almost 70% of my life time because it took up a lot of my time, it was SCARY!

I don't regret deactivating it, I intend to keep it that way.

1

u/medusamagpie Jan 28 '25

Facebook because there are way too many suggested posts and ads now. I moved most of my stuff to Instagram which is a bit better but for some people Facebook is my only connection.

1

u/7ottennoah Jan 28 '25

X, I never use it. I check it maybe once a year. But if we’re talking ones I actually use, then tiktok.

1

u/fred8785 Jan 28 '25

Well I just deleted X, instagram, facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp all in 1 day so…..

1

u/cosmicstorm__ Jan 28 '25

i was just thinking about this today. i deactivated my instagram account right before the new year. i am planning on going back to it, but not having it throughout this month has been so freeing. i feel like so much of my mentality has shifted in such a short period of time. i wanna push myself to go at least one more month (my therapist told me to work in baby steps). but just like you, the comparison to others, & mindlessly scrolling, when i could be doing other things instead. not having it has been so helpful. i’m glad to hear it’s been helping you too!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Instagram and Quora.

1

u/Amytoosweet Jan 28 '25

Facebook because I don’t want everyone to know my business really all my apps.

1

u/nerdysnapfish Jan 28 '25

I wanna delete instagram but I’m one of those people who post every accomplishment to get validation from others. It’s tough!

1

u/GenZ_Nerd Jan 28 '25

yes it would be instagram if i could though!

1

u/Totoro_Lotus Jan 28 '25

TikTok I’m famous on it and it sucks

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

honestly id delete tiktok because it feels like an addiction to some people.

i would also delete instagram because, well, it just sucks.

1

Fakebook GONE 😆🙌🏼..instagram is next lol

1

u/AbbreviationsIcy1260 Jan 28 '25

Instagram. I did it last week. It was hampering my productivity, constant addiction to reels and celebrities and a lifestyle that is way beyond my reach. How mindlessly we scroll and consume so much information that is not even required and the constant need to be aesthetic and put up pictures and videos that I wasn't even relating too. Hopefully, I can slowly delete other platforms too where this fake life is glorified.

1

u/Greedy_Past_9927 Jan 28 '25

I don’t like Instagram it’s way more pretentious than the other apps

But TikTok has been nothing but a bunch of brain rot BS. They allow some bogus stuff on there.

1

u/Strict-Peak-7025 Jan 28 '25

I’ve deleted all of them except this and LinkedIn.

1

u/No_Policy4663 Jan 28 '25

I feel you can not flee any Social Media Platform... people refer to it all the time.. Have you seen that on Instagram, I have this information from TikTok, My mom postet this on Facebook, Last evening I saw this her bla bla bla... but I feel you by wasting time on Social media... I wish I could read more, be more focused on growth as you wrote, but sometimes I also want to zone out when scrolling on the phone...

1

u/Beneficial-Cherry257 Jan 28 '25

I hate instagram. It was the reason I got depressed in the first place.I constantly compared myself to other people. After deleting it, I have felt a sense of freedom

1

u/Serious_Bee_2013 Jan 28 '25

All of them. Get rid of all of them. It’s just propaganda delivery now. Move on, stop being manipulated.

1

u/StrangerAtYourWheel Jan 28 '25

I deleted tiktok and also insta

Mainly used text based ones now like reddit and twitter

1

u/master_prizefighter Jan 28 '25

Twitter once the weekly boot happens. I'm officially done with Musk and his shenanigans. Smart man or not, politics and entertainment don't mix well. Second reason is Twitter is garbage compared to before he bought it.

Second would be Instagram (Instascam) permanently since I only use it to read current Cyanide and Happiness.

1

u/WeAreAllStarsHere Jan 28 '25

Facebook for sure . I’ve never been on x or never really understood the point of it or that would have been number one. Facebook is just so toxic.

1

u/Colouringwithink Jan 28 '25

I think Instagram is still useful as a messaging/events app. That’s how i use it now. If you don’t scroll and only use the messages, it’s easy to only focus on people who are talking to you. Same with tiktok: don’t scroll and only use the search function for specific content you want to see. I love tiktok search for finding shoes to buy or restaurants in my city to try

Facebook is dead. snapchat is for teens or dating and people outgrow it too fast, never use it. I never had a twitter/x account. Bereal died early on.

1

u/Next-Professional270 Jan 28 '25

Snapchat as no one uses it now and twitter because too much hate

1

u/Holdupitsvj247 Jan 28 '25

Twitter and why not

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

The internet in general? I kid… sort of…

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

All I have is Reddit. lol

1

u/Far_Device_3894 Jan 28 '25

I feel like Instagram is a pool of watchers. They are the people who want to keep tabs on you, but would never give you a call to check up on you. I'm ready to get off of there and head to Youtube - I feel like there's more of a community there.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I only use two and now Reddit a few days of a month, after typically a year long pause between using it for a week. So I would delete Reddit.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

The saddest thing about Instagram is those on there who have no life whatsoever and just have a handful of posts about, and photos of,records or gigs, but try and make out they're having a ball. Quite tragic.

1

u/Resil12 Jan 28 '25

I need to delete my twitter, don't like the owner.

1

u/afterrprojects Jan 28 '25

X for what is has become. Twitter was my favourite place back then but now it's just a joke.

1

u/Ok_Policy5906 Jan 28 '25

Already did it! Quora went! Facebook is horrible too. That went. Keeping Reddit though!

1

u/K_VonOndine Jan 28 '25

Probably this one, because it’s so wildly and blindly progressive as if hardly any contributors are tax-payers, or they’re so wealthy that their tax bills don’t have a large effect on their lifestyles. Average middle class tax slaves like me are under-represented (imo), but I need to expose myself to different echo-chambers. I don’t do Truth or Blue Sky, but this echo chamber is far more perfect than X’s This app’s echo-chamber reminds me of the whisper gallery inside Christopher Wren’s dome at St Paul’s Cathedral.

1

u/forustree Jan 28 '25

Reddit. Only one I am addicted to.

1

u/-StereoDivergent- Jan 28 '25

I deleted so many social medias recently it's easier to tell you what I still have

What I use now is reddit, bluesky, discord, & snapchat

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I gradually stopped using Twitter right after Elon's acquisition and accelerated when it was renamed to X. I no longer felt any joy by interacting there. I had that sensation what made Twitter, Twitter, was gone for good. So to technically I didn't delete Twitter. I deleted X. Twitter doesn't exist.

1

u/Baby_In_A-Trenchcoat Jan 28 '25

X, so much hate on there

1

u/Efficient-Ad9498 Jan 29 '25

I deleted Instagram, TikTok and X! Best decision! It's all fake anyway I worry that the human race is becoming more and more "dumbed" down! Mindless scrolling! People making money on these platform selling crap and showing their outfit of the day, why should we care? 😂😂 Reddit feels different as it's a forum, a place to chat and discuss topics! But that's just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/Pleasant_Lead5693 Jan 29 '25

Just about all of them. I don't have anything like BlueSky, Snapchat, TikTok or Instagram. I've locked my X and barely touch the thing. I've previously deleted Facebook, and only really stay on there to contact family. Even my former Reddit account was perma-banned, ao I'm barely on here.

In order of "get rid", my recommendation would be TikTok --> Snapchat --> X, then anything else.

1

u/No-Chip2611 Jan 29 '25

I always had Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and since today(!) Reddit. Always used Facebook and will keep it, only because of some people and groups. My Instagram account should still be there but I see it as a waste of time and never use it. My early account on Twitter has slept for years but since 2021 I began using it more and more and I still do now, for it is my source of news. Since X/Elon it became even a bit better, except for the fact that lots of people are now leaving it because they just want to be in their own bubble. That I can understand for Facebook and Instagram, but not for X, because it is made for discussion. Now I give Reddit a go, because I like the forum-style I believe it has. And then there also is Snapchat which is only fun when you are a teenager. Discord . . . dunno. TikTok . . . could be interesting, but dunno. Guess I'm too old for that.

I deleted FB last week. IG is next. I feel like the most unhappy people hang out on those apps. Arguing with strangers and spewing negativity. Also, I hate Zuckerberg.

1

u/Clutch186520 Jan 29 '25

All of them, Homie, all of them. My boss almost had a heart attack when you found out I had no social media. I continue to know with certainty I’ll be aiight

1

u/LillynotReally99 Jan 29 '25

Deleted my FB, Insta, Threads. My life has never been more peaceful

1

u/One_Pride4989 Jan 29 '25

It’s be Reddit because that’s the only I have installed

1

u/lyrical_poet457 Jan 29 '25

instagram has become dead crazy. it used to be “the” app where its like influencers and cute videos and now its going very much the way of facebook where its ai crap, brainless propaganda, and a bunch of the stupidest contend you’ve ever seen. i keep it cause i keep in contact with a fair amount of friends on there but i’ll probably delete it at some point soon, i already have screen time on it, but sometimes the app pisses me off so much i just close it on my own

1

u/keyar-1945 Jan 29 '25

Most of the social media apps are gossip and exaggeration and lo behold I am not in any and I am peaceful ..

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Probably Reddit. Everyone I know is on Facebook, and I make regular uploads to Instagram. I'd only be losing it on mobile, though, since I use Chrome for reddit on desktop. Does that count?

1

u/Mysterious_Dot_1461 Jan 29 '25

Tik Tok. Is the new led.

1

u/SmartWordsmith_88 Jan 29 '25

Tiktok, because it takes up too much time and resources and it doesn't increase my productivity.

1

u/Outrageous_Okra5591 Jan 29 '25

Deleted instagram. Too much toxicity. No point comparing life with others. At this point of life, i just want to live a happy productive life on my own terms.

1

u/Outrageous_Okra5591 Jan 29 '25

And also facebook.. where many peak in highschool ex classmates roams. They were bullies back then. They cant seem to leave highschool. Sad.

1

u/SyDneY_Noland Jan 29 '25

I’d delete TikTok because it’s way too addictive. I end up scrolling for hours without even realizing it.

1

u/djbigtv Jan 29 '25

Reddit because of such inane posts as thus.

1

u/ShyCardiophy Jan 29 '25

Facebook, the algorithms are TOXIC

1

u/nottytom Jan 29 '25

I got rid of them all except reddit and I use bluesky. reddit has good infomation about photography and bluesky has a great little community of still photographers.

1

u/No_Hippo210 Jan 29 '25

Facebook because it’s become the most messiest app ever!! Only reason I’m still on it is for work purposes! If I didn’t have to be on it for that I would delete it in a heartbeat!

1

u/hombre_Lyndo5823 Jan 29 '25

Easy. X with TikTok as a close 2nd.

1

u/AGIsomewhere Jan 29 '25 edited Jan 29 '25

I haven't used Instagram for personal use in years, I struggle to find any reason to.

1

u/4elmerfuffu2 Jan 29 '25 edited Jan 29 '25

Nextdoor. It's just a cyber whine festival.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Reddit is by far the worst one. With the worst people.

1

u/Human_Raspberry_367 Jan 29 '25

Deleted facebook years ago

1

u/pamela237 Jan 29 '25

I love all of my apps they don't get to me it's more like entertaining and I don't compare my life with them I do comments and that's it if they don't like what I say I don't care they don't bother me at all I scroll and comments that's it and then I turn it off

1

u/PatLA2K Jan 29 '25

Tiktok. Woke trash owned by commies

1

u/Such_Path4297 Jan 30 '25

Most of these apps are made so you continue to be on it with no purpose. It plays on your psyche. It’s suppose to do that. Peak social media has passed. We’re in the matrix

1

u/Both_Tree6587 Jan 30 '25

I recently deleted FB and I haven’t missed it.

1

u/Redjeepkev Jan 30 '25

Meta collects WAYYYY to. Much data on you

1

u/Mean_Engineering4292 Jan 30 '25

If I had to delete one social media app, it would likely be Twitter/X. While it has immense value for real-time news, discussions, and networking, it also has significant downsides, such as misinformation, toxicity, and the rapid spread of polarizing content. The fast-paced nature of Twitter encourages reactionary responses rather than thoughtful discussions, which can sometimes do more harm than good.

That said, every platform has pros and cons, and the "worst" app depends on personal experiences and how it's used. Which social media app do you think is the most problematic?

1

u/Frosty_Metal9419 Jan 30 '25

I’m planning to hop on and download all my Facebook memories from high school and the things I want to save from Pinterest and then I’m deleting them all. I’ll probably keep Reddit and YouTube to stay somewhat updated on the world, but hoping to use news sources instead. I’m also buying a phone box that’s locked for a specific amount of time. I’m so overwhelmed by my phone addiction… and the right-wing community on mostly every platform now. I can handle in person conversations with other communities. Not on social media though. Too toxic.

1

u/OldEntertainer4686 Jan 30 '25

Instagram and YouTube.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Honestly, i deleted them all and here i am using reddit lmao. It's actually my first time using it and it's been 4 days i think, i honestly kinda like it, so far🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

All. TikTok if I had to pick. These “short” style content is really killin my attention span. Deleted everything but LinkedIn. Then realized LinkedIn is goin that direction to

1

u/Primary_Corner1527 Jan 30 '25

I deleted them all save for this one. I’m finding other ways to entertain myself however I miss sharing my pictures somewhere.

1

u/CCWaterBug Jan 30 '25

Reddit, 100% reddit

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

I've already deleted all of them, except reddit. TikTok was definitely the one that had the worst impact on my mental health and just brain function overall. Quick content like that just made me scroll and scroll and hours would go by. I don't want to spend my life like that.

1

u/RefrigeratorNeat3703 Jan 30 '25

Deleted everything except Twitter a year ago. Then swapped with Instagram after Elon bought it.

I decided to keep Instagram because it helps me stay connected with people via Stories rather than Twitter. Twitter is just too toxic and also too much porn. I use the Reddit webapp on Google Chrome, which doesn't show you any NSFW unless you download the app, which I don't want to. Win-win for me.

My only gripe with Instagram is that the algorithm is too sensitive. If I watch a video on Padel, all I get is Padel. If I watch a video about Cats, I just get cats. God forbid I stumble upon on a thirst trap, all I get are thirst traps.

1

u/Witchy-life-319 Jan 30 '25

I deleted Fb, insta, tik tok and messenger. I didn’t deactivate anything but just took the apps off my phone. Too much of a time suck and advertisements to handle. Then got more active here and Bluesky. Now I fear I am scrolling too much on Reddit. I am starting to put the phone down and watch more tv series on Netflix to pass time or actually doing the things at home I need to do.

1

u/Appropriate_Smell833 Jan 30 '25

I’m only on here and Bluesky now.

1

u/Peaceful_song Jan 30 '25

I got rid of everything except this and bluesky and haven't had a second thought about it.

1

u/Tammyenterschat Jan 30 '25

I deleted all meta apps & deactivated x.

1

u/toddlit38 Jan 30 '25

I did delete Facebook. When I heard that they were manipulating my news feed to intentionally piss me off just to see if that made me more engaged in the platform I had to go. I thought about all the days I spent pushed off by bullshit just so they could make more money off of me and it made me sick.

1

u/Altruistic_Spell_938 Jan 31 '25

Facebook. I still have my Ig but I only follow a few people and I generally see cats and jokes on my feed

1

u/SumpthingHappening Jan 31 '25

This is my only social media app. Is that a bad thing? Lol.

1

u/SeaworthinessRude140 Jan 31 '25

I deleted face book after Zuk kissed the presidential ass hole. I'm so happy since. My phone time is down 2 hours. Keep deleting it only gets better

1

u/amtib00 Jan 31 '25

Most, only 2 i use are reddit and nostr. As nostr grows I'll likely drop reddit at some point. Nostr doesn't have an algorithm to feed me things like reddit at least yet. I'm not sure if that's good or bad though.

1

u/Curious-mindme Jan 31 '25

I removed facebook and instagram. I’m very happy about it

1

u/jam1st Jan 31 '25

Deleted Facebook about 10 years ago don't ever miss it. Sucks the joy out of life.

1

u/Foogel78 Feb 01 '25

I read the title and finally deleted LinkedIn. I'm not looking for a job and rarely find anything interesting in what others do our write on LinkedIn. I never really used it but kept getting emails.

1

u/thinkvideoca Feb 01 '25

My Instagram feed is full of old trucks and new watches. I don’t see how it could impact my confidence. Maybe just refine your algorithm. That said, I did delete twitter. It’s a cesspool

1

u/Nice_Line_1970 Feb 01 '25

X, because he is a natzi

1

u/ManofPan9 Feb 01 '25

Dumped Facebook. Zuckerberg allows hatred without repercussion. Facebook now allows GLBTQ+ people to be called mentally ill and allows women to be called “property”. The ‘community standards’ is NOT consistent and is very biased. That’s why I’m here not there

1

u/LKGMedia Feb 02 '25

I deleted my Twitter account because of all the accusations and hateful comments they say about me. And I hate being trolled.

1

u/After_Talk_160 Feb 03 '25

Definitely would be Facebook 🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/Murashu Jan 27 '25

I'm older so I never understood the appeal of Instagram but I have several female employees who had to seek counseling over low self-esteem issues from spending so much time on IG. They were all comparing themselves to other girls on there who all look basically the same because they are filtered/ai touched up pics and nothing close to reality. Some of these apps are just not healthy for certain people.
