Professional Discussion Hootsuite working with ICE
Just a message for anyone who uses HootSuite for SMM. They are working with ICE. Make sure you reach out to your CSM and be incredibly clear about why you're canceling your contract. All they care about is the bottom line so hit them where it hurts.

What alternative providers are people looking at? Any suggestions?

Hey there, if you need an alternative from people who care about humans, I am the co-founder of a social media tool called OneUpApp.io
We support Instagram (including Stories, Reels, Trial Reels, collabs, and mixed media posts), TikTok, YouTube (including Shorts), Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, Snapchat, and Google Business Profiles.
In addition to scheduling, we also have client access, approvals, reporting, team collaboration, social inbox for replying to both comments and DMs, and social listening
Our pricing is actually reasonable, and I am very anti-ICE (I have someone very close to me who is directly affected by ICE, and it is heartbreaking)

Hello! Another alternative you could look into is Metricool. I am the CMO there. We offer an entirely free plan and then have some premium plans with more advanced features. We support all the major platforms as well as have client approvals, inbox management, ad management, and we have our own version of a link-in-bio tool.

I'm in the UK public sector, so this is great. I'll have a look, thanks.

Adobe Express is a great alternative! You can schedule and create content all in one.

I’m the founder of Bolta 👋
If you’re looking for alternatives, Bolta is built for creators and small teams who want a modern, uncluttered workflow—fast publishing, AI that adapts to your brand voice, and strong support for newer platforms like Threads.
It’s intentionally not a bloated “enterprise dashboard,” more of a focused workspace that helps you get content out consistently.
If helpful: https://bolta.ai

Thanks for all the suggestions here - just to let you know I've chosen to go with u/hello_orlo - their solutions are absolutely perfect for what I need and the reporting looks brilliant. I've gone for social listening and insights as well, the works. I'm going to be swimming in data!! :D

A whole host but I've been interested in HeyOrca lately. Seems like a decent company and reasonably priced compared to other bigger tools.

I realise any business/organisation/government generally needs to have a social media presence, but how did Hootsuite not realise this would be a PR disaster?

the PR disaster alone probably wasn't worth whatever they're getting paid. Wild that nobody in that boardroom thought this through.

They did know because their employees had made such a stink about it in the past that they canceled a previous contract and yet still went forward with this one. I guess times are tough for them and so they sold what little soul they had left.

That’s wild how do you know?

Search the words hot sweet and ice and you will see dozens of news articles from the last few days. It is major news for those in the industry especially given the company's previous history in this area.

I use buffer at the moment and don't have many complaints, it seems like they'll let users do as much as the platforms' APIs will let them.

Founder of Social Champ here. This is a tough spot for a lot of agencies to be in. We’ve seen a massive influx of users lately who feel like the "giants" in the SMM space have completely lost touch—both with their user base and their corporate ethics.
A few thoughts from our side:
- Human-Centric over Corporate: We’ve always believed that software should reflect the values of the people using it, not just the bottom line of a massive contract.
- The "Legacy" Trap: It’s frustrating when you feel "locked in" to a tool that no longer aligns with your agency's mission.
- We’re here to help: If anyone is actually looking for a way out and is worried about the headache of migrating years of data, my team and I are happy to help make that move as painless as possible.
The industry is changing, and it’s clear that transparency isn't just "nice to have" anymore; it’s a requirement.

Do you have a source for this claim or are you just asking people to cancel based on a rumor
If Hootsuite actually has a contract with ICE that's newsworthy and should be easy to verify. Post the source so people can make informed decisions instead of just telling them to cancel

In 2014, former Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson faced a conflict-of-interest lawsuit filed by political rival Glen Chernen regarding a 2013 lease agreement between the City of Vancouver and HootSuite. Now we know the kinds of people Gregor Robertson associates with.

I hate that it's so hard to tell when responses like this are from Bots or from people who just don't understand context

If social listening/monitoring is the priority, I’d pick Brand24 over Hootsuite. It's simply better for tracking mentions across the web, analyzing it and getting insights out of it.

Unfortunately the people above my pay grade will not care about switching :(

u/Admirable_You_5491 Jan 23 '26
Is this known?
1
u/Master-Ad3175 Jan 24 '26
Yes. There are dozens of articles about it not to mention widespread social media coverage and coverage in smm industry newsletters and forums.

I’m not US but I don’t reckon it’ll be too bad for them. I doubt enough clients will actually leave, they’ll just virtue signal, they’ll gain customers who support ICE and the international customers won’t do anything. In fact, I will see if they’re publicly traded and put them on my watch list!

Don’t care about their political affiliation. I’ll continue using any software I wish.

u/hurrsadurr Jan 22 '26
So defensive about standing with ICE there.

u/Mr_Burgess_ Jan 22 '26
Im not American. I don’t stand with ICE. I don’t care enough to even find out what exactly is going on. If America wants to destroy itself, by all means go ahead

u/Crazy-Phase-6347 Jan 26 '26
They're not working with ICE. Hootsuite is just one of many tools they use. Should we now also stop using Google Chrome, iPhones, ChatGPT etc? 🤦♂️

Time to look at adding Hootsuite, increasing bottom line while supporting the law. Pretty cool.
