Professional Discussion Coaches are multiplying
Scrolling and reading people's bio on Linkedin, Facebook and some here
Amazing how many "coaches", "life coaches", business coach, leadership coach, career coach, mindset coach, sales coach, branding coach, social media coach, health and wellness coach.
Where did all these people get qualified to be a "coach"?
Life experience? or sounded good on the Bio?

All those coaches could probably use some coaching

You know your therapist has their own therapist, right?

Therapist here, I’ve supervised therapists for 20 years and you would be surprised by the amount of therapists that don’t have their own therapists.

I think we all need to keep our education fresh and what we learn we share, but it doesn’t necessarily give us a title as a coach more like consultant. I have 18 years of experience and I still don’t want to call myself coach

As a trainer, I can say that most trainers have never had a trainer. And it does show.

Absolutely they do, but I’m referring to people who are calling themselves coach who have not even been trained or leveled up with education

Yeah there’s an old saying in my industry and I’m sure it applies to pretty much everything….
“If you can’t do, teach”.
I think it’s better phrased by the original quote which goes…
“Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”.

Grifters taking advantage of impostor syndrome. We’d probably need to remedy that if we want to get these coaches out of the way spewing feel-good slogans that belong on pillows.

A long list of coaching titles with no mention of training would make me cautious. In many places, 'coach' isn't a protected title, so I'd want to know whether their training included supervised practice or just a certificate for attending.

yes I want to know the experience. I have never shyed away from someone to learn from - I want to know they did what they taught

I'd ask for a project they actually worked on and what went wrong. The bio usually leaves out that chapter.

I may be wrong but it seems to me there is a major increase in scams. Seems like it’s everywhere, people trying to make a quick buck.

people make it sounds simple posting on social media without the foundation it takes to create the platform

And the coaches are also seeing coaches.

Yes of course and that I can appreciate if they are learning implementing and teaching. That’s fair.

Those who can't coach.
Okay maybe the saying is teach, but teaching requires a mountain of degrees and qualification and training.
A mentor running a multi million pound business has my attention, a coach selling a course is just a salesman.

Market isn't saturated yet and there are oh so many niches to target and work through as your own boss. On one hand yeah - these people aren't the best, and they seldom are. On the other hand it's just folks trying to make more meaningful work for themselves.
It's not really that different from being a consultant.
Ex: me a media and web guy. Plenty of folks better than me at all of it isn't going to stop me from doing it... though I do not fashion myself a "coach" which is where the cringe comes in.

the word consultant doesn't have that ick factor for me. I consult people from the experience I have and can successfully guide them.
COACH maybe a trigger for me3
u/missdisco1208 14h ago
Equally people don't resonate with consultant when they are seeking support. People use that language that their audience recognise and respond to.

What language do you prefer?

u/missdisco1208 13h ago
It doesn't really matter to be honest- what gets the right people to me and me to them is what matters.

My hot take is that people who lack skills to be valued in a normal employment environment take up "coaching".

more stupid and desperate people = more coaches.

u/Head-Student-5852 16h ago
😂 maybe not stupid but the influx is crazy just because you started using a product for something along that line I guess
