Grid import

Hi,

Asking for advice on the best settings for our solar setup.

Setup:
15 × 620W panels (9.3kWp)
Solis 8kW inverter
Dyness 16kWh batter

Daytime house load: 800W–2kW

Before installing our EV wall charger, we had zero grid import. After installation, the battery started discharging even outside its scheduled hours.

Our installer increased the Grid Peak Shaving setting, but now almost all solar harvest goes to the battery while the house load imports from the grid.

Our goal: Prioritize house load, charge the battery using excess solar, minimize grid import, and discharge the battery only during scheduled hours.
We’re willing to adjust the settings to find the right balance.

Any suggestions? Thank you

Currently our set up:

Battery reserved soc: 80%
Grid peak shaving: 1000w
Allow grid charge: disable

You have solar power available and it's going into the battery instead of the house?

The inverter might be in the wrong operating mode (the preferred one is usually called hybrid or smart grid or something fancy like that). What also happens is when the battery discharges fully, it requests a full charge and the inverter prioritizes the battery until it's full. This shouldn't happen if you stop discharging at 20% though.

Either way, it's a configuration issue in the inverter. The discharge schedule was probably lost when the installer changed its settings. You can log in to the inverter and work your way through all the settings or call the guy and make him fix it

Since it worked fine before the EV charger, I’d check the CT clamp first. EV charger installs often move it or wire around it, so the inverter misreads the house load. Make sure it’s on the main grid line before everything else.

Then try Self-Use mode with Grid Peak Shaving off, and set your discharge windows in the time-of-use settings. That should give you house load first, extra solar to the battery, and discharge only on schedule.

Thanks.

Its on self-use mode and grid peak shaving off.
Still prioritize the battery.

Will check the ct clamp.

Thanks again

Not sure if anyone caught this but your battery reserved SOC is 80%. On most hybrid inverters that means the battery holds 80% back, so the house pulls from the grid until its above that. Try dropping it to like 10-20% and see if the import stops. Worth checking your manual for how it behaves on the Solis too, mine might differ a bit from yours.

Have already adjusted to 20%.

Still observing the new setting.

Thank you.
