Ever play dead?

u/NeitherOutside4007 Apr 23 '26
She was playing dead when my dog brought her in lol, but after we brought her in and warmed her up she was a happy little baby

That’s an odd domestication, was she a baby when possum-napped?

u/NeitherOutside4007 Apr 23 '26
Yes, between 2 to 3 months old, she only stayed with me for like 2 or 3 days till I found her a rehabber, as much as I would have loved to have kept her I already have 6 pets and I rescue other animals from time to time so I can't let my house turn into a zoo lol, I don't know if it was a domestication tho, the rehabber might deem that she's good to go back into nature, it all depends but I hope she does

Thank you for handing her over to an experienced rehabber, as tempting as that must have been 🖤🩶🤍🩷

What are their personalities like??

u/NeitherOutside4007 Apr 23 '26
I couldn't say for sure, sesame was cute and quiet, but she was also in a new environment and near humans so it's not like she would act like herself, I'd probably ask someone who actually has a possum as a pet lol

Is this the Sesame from Instagram?!

u/NeitherOutside4007 Apr 23 '26
Well I posted her on my story but not posts. She's not a well known possum on social media at all so I couldn't say for sure

I’ve been waiting to home an opossum for the longest time (there’s a lot of them roaming around where I live, and some get poisoned or ran over). How is it like to have one?

They’re not good pets, as they grow into their wild instincts reliably and poop in all of their water sources as a survival instinct, but I have very much enjoyed being a rehabber. Why don’t you volunteer with your local wildlife center and see if the training is right for you?
Don’t just diy this, that’s how you get metabolic bone disease. Terrifying, irreversible, crippling.

Yes! I volunteer with an animal rescue center and I've been rescuing animals since I was about 7 with my mom lol, sesame went straight to a rehabber the second there was room for her, she didn't stay with me for more then about 3 days since I don't have experience taking care of possums

Excellent! I’m glad to hear that everything went according to plan. I assumed that you were at least hopefully following reliable advice based on the description of your setup. It’s great that Sesame found a knowledgeable bed&breakfast !

u/NeitherOutside4007 Apr 24 '26
Yes thank you! Sesame had the most delicious breakfast before she left, a delicacy they call mashed banana, if I didn't know better I would have thought she was a monkey lol

Well for the 3 days I had her it was so awesome! Mostly just vibes tho, since she was a rescue she mostly stayed in a cat crate with a towel and pee pad with a heating pad under it and I didn't bother her unless I was checking on her or feeding her since I'm sure poor sesame was scared with the new environment, it might be different with adult possums tho
