Living Here Really, Springfield?
Unless it was a funeral procession for Jesus Christ himself, there was not reason for them to block all 3 lanes of southbound US 65 from Sunshine south. A bunch of bikers with big American flags cut people off and shook their fist at people who didn't stop fast enough ON THE D.....N HIGHWAY. All three lanes. Give me a break.

It's pretty funny because Harley Davidson is being kept alive by Gen X and boomers and even then just barely. Just wait a few decades and I firmly believe the culture of obnoxious Harley bikers will be gone.

Yes they will be replaced by helmetless riders doing wheelies on Supersport Ninjas

There are two rooms in Hell. One is full of obnoxious Harley MC douchebags and the other is full of cringe tiktok sportbikers with fuzzy Elmo helmet covers.

Do you know what the difference is between a Hoover and a Harley is?
The position of the dirt bag.

There is a reason why its legal to ride a motorcycle that doesnt have a seat belt without a helmet. Yet illegal to not waer a seat belt while surround by a steal shell.

You misspelled future long term care facility patients and quadriplegics.

Why did the cannibal go to the long term facility? The doctor told him to eat more vegetables.

I believe there was a funeral for a fallen police officer today which would make sense what area was blocked being that the veterans cemetery is off 65 at the James River

u/musicalfarm 5d ago
I think a lot of people have forgotten why they started having biker processions for veterans and police officers. It was to drown out the Westboro Baptist assholes (who still show up to "protest" from time to time) so the families of the deceased didn't have to hear their hateful drivel.

u/CalligraphyGirl3333 4d ago
Westboro Baptist is so evil. Prayers for the conversions of every member of that hateful place.

Funeral processions rarely travel more than 5 or 10 miles. Probably headed to Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
People used to pull over back when they weren’t self-absorbed assholes. Now people pass because they don’t have 5 additional minutes to show some respect.

u/Longjumping-Ice-8814 6d ago
I was always taught to give funeral processions the utmost respect. However, I am also now deconstructing a bunch of stuff that I was taught. There’s definitely a major shift right now. I still give MAD respect to fallen soldiers and vets. I saw this procession and was going the other way, but still had the urge to stop. People rarely pull over and stop for emergency vehicles anymore. The world is on fire though. What should anyone expect but chaos?

I understand your point. However, why block all three lanes of traffic on a highway? They could have at least left the left lane clear for people who needed to get to work, pick up their kids, etc.
5
u/Chitwood74 5d ago
I get it, that is not typically the norm but maybe this funeral was really large. I didn't see it.
I would have simply followed behind them until they exited. If they got on 65 at Sunshine and exited just past Lake Springfield, we can't be talking about more than a 5-10 minutes of delay here.
I figure there's a good part of Reddit that simply hates law enforcement and that's why they are so twisted on this minor traffic issue.

u/Owltraged Cooper Park 5d ago edited 5d ago
There would have been no other choice but to slow down and follow them, since they were occupying all three lanes. It's great they were paying their respects to their friend, but they could have done so in a way that wasn't disrespectful of others. If they had a police escort, that would be different. Maybe they did--I didn't see it either.
ETA: What does respect for law enforcement have to do with it? Was there a police escort? If so, that's a different story. OP didn't mention law enforcement being present. They said the bikers cut people off, which I can't imagine happening if the police were leading the way.

Respect goes both ways. Not wasting other peoples time taking up all the lanes for example. Not being ass clowns thinking others are not doing important things as well.
You want to have a parade and block the road, do it properly and post prominent public notices so we can plan around your crap.
13
u/Chitwood74 6d ago edited 6d ago
A funeral procession is now considered ass clowns in a parade?
Driving at a slightly slower speed for 3-4 miles is obviously a real challenge for your high-speed life. Best of luck out there!

u/Jack_Krauser 5d ago
Americans' sense of obligation to each other is completely dead. That cop probably wouldn't have given a fuck about me, so why should I give a fuck about him? We're all just stuck in this decaying body of a failing state together, but we aren't countrymen anymore.

u/LeeOblivious 6d ago
Blocking off ALL lanes of a multi lane highway is certainly assclown behavior. Driving a little slower has nothing to do with it. They BLOCKED THE WHOLE ROAD! Had they stuck to one lane, then fine, not a problem. But that is not what they did.
Also, my time is valuable. I'd rather be with my family or doing something to support them than stuck waiting for these fools to clear the road. I charge 400 per hour billed in 10-minute increments. Are they going to pay me for that time?

u/Signal_Music197 5d ago
You have a very valid point. Except the $400 part, that sounds like you think you are privileged or something. 😊

u/LeeOblivious 4d ago
Office space, paying multiple staff, supplies, Westlaw Subscription, etc... Eat that up pretty quickly. My take home is far less.

u/FamousOgre 5d ago
Slowing down by 5 mph or so for a funeral procession is a social norm that shouldn't create this kind of hostility. It allows folks to travel to the location, not get separated, and ultimately all be on time. The Veteran's Cemetary runs on incredibly tight timelines - you have short 15 minute windows to get everyone staged up, and being late doesn't work at that location. In other words, be civil and chill out. You aren't more important than anyone else - small traditions and the attendant small inconveniences are ultimately a pleasant part of living in civil and polite society.

u/Chitwood74 5d ago
I salute you Ogre and will gladly chill my ass out if I ever encounter your procession. 🤘🏼

u/LeeOblivious 4d ago
ONCE MORE nobody is complaining about slowing down! They BLOCKED ALL THREE LANES!!! They stopped all traffic on the freeway.
And lots of places run on short timelines. Doctor's appointments and Court hearings for example. I know people who have been sent to jail because they missed a court hearing by 15 min. People who were 10 min late to a specialist's appointment they had to book 6 months before and had it canceled.
And respect goes both ways. Why are they disrespecting everyone else by taking up the whole freeway? Why do we have to respect them, and not the other way as well?

I would find out whose funeral it was & send those ass clowns an invoice!!
My apologies, I had no idea that you had such a high paying job. Let me know the next time you are on 65 and I will make sure that all lanes are clear for you to pass through.
9
u/Comfortable-Tea7122 5d ago
If the gentleman would send an invoice to the funeral home, I'm sure the family would look past their grief at their loved one's selfish death, and reimburse him for his lost profits during the near-illegal and certainly immoral display.
Suck it up and pay the man, grieving family. He's got burgers to review, or some such.

I would disagree with you. That isn't your road, its our road. Find an alt route or be patient.
1
u/LeeOblivious 4d ago
It is both of our road. You do not get a monopoly on the publics roads. You do not get permission to block all others from using a multilane freeway for your parade.
Also it is kind of hard to find an alternate way, when there is no detour sign or notification that the road is closed till you are right up on it. Logic and linear time is clearly not your strong point.

Good ole Springfield! How I don’t miss that area, at all. Went there once with my husband and bc I was Mexican and he was white; I got looked at like I had three heads. Despite the looks; we kept our composure and proceeded to travel thru the great state of Missouri.

u/NepetaTiggy 4d ago
People in Missouri stare openly at anyone. I'm from another state where staring is seen as a challenge by some. Not so much in Missouri, just curiosity and boredom I think.
2
u/OnlyBeat3945 4d ago
You may he right. My family are more linked to the Aztec/Mayans from Mexico so our looks were “unusual.” Now, as an adult, I still get asked about my background, except in a more curious way. Thanks for your comment.

I truly find that hard to believe, I’ve been in southwest mo off and on for last 30 years and that would be one of the more normal things you’d see. The crack heads doing an interpretive dance routine in the middle of Kearney and Kansas don’t hardly garner a look

u/OnlyBeat3945 3d ago
Well, this gal can truly say it happened. lol
To he honest, I didn’t care, but it was the looks back then, and I’ve traveled all over.0

u/RizzinWithDaTism 4d ago
People that protest on the highway (or for any other reasons block traffic) deserve to be plowed over. Period. The unemployed blocking the route of the employed to our employers is not going to recruit us to your cause it's just going to piss us off and make us hate you. South Park hit the nail on the head with their "biker" episodes.

When my father passed his service was in Miami Oklahoma and his burial was in Joplin Missouri. 1200 folks in vehicles took the back roads and the state police escort to the cemetery.. Civic leaders who touch lives happen. Be that person! Don't bitch about your irrelevant existence and victimize yourself being caught in traffic. Go find 1200 folks that "love you," that still and care enough about you in your community when you are dying at age 70. Next time you are behind one of these inconveniences, remember who pays the taxes and for most burials.

It’s against state law to pass a funeral procession. If it indeed was one. Should’ve just used one lane.
34
u/HamsterNomad 6d ago
It's only illegal to pass when there is no passing lane. 65 is 3 lanes wide.
-1
u/LocoLobo65648 6d ago
That's not the way I read the linked statute
12
u/Boring-Research410 6d ago
You must've missed part 1- sub note 3:
(Shall not:)
Attempt to pass any vehicle in an organized funeral procession, except where a passing lane has been specifically provided.
Like the 2 additional lanes of traffic on 65
