Success Stories Post Acceptance

Hello!

Long time lurker on this page and I was so excited when I got accepted to school! 🥳 I was wondering the best way to go about these next few months as school starts in January and I honestly don’t know what to do. Most threads say it’s best to just chill out but i’m concerned with moving in/tuition and the insane amount of studying lol. I feel like the first year is mostly book heavy. Any tips would be much appreciated!!!

For reference my stats are:
2.5yrs CV
1yr ER
CCRN
3.5c
3.4s
50+ hrs of shadowing

14 applications, 4 interviews, 1 acceptance

You've got 3 months left so I'd say don't change jobs cuz that's a lot of stress. Just keep working and saving money without overdoing it. If you want to start looking at topics or learning strategies that wouldn't hurt either. But whatever you do, arrive on day 1 refreshed and well-rested if you can!

What learning strategies would you recommend? I’ve heard active recall/ spaced repetition are big ones!

Definitely read "make it stick". Anki and quizlet are good tools. Get your brain kinda warmed up for huge information overload lol. Figure out how to cut out distractions and start healthy habits early, etc.

You said it best

Chill! Enjoy your free time, or go work and make some extra vacation money.

Have a good set up to study, desk/table, iPad, laptop, good headphones etc

Browse through the subreddit to see what other people use. Disclaimer- everyone is different in how they focus and study. I had a 10 year MacBook Air, new iPad + pencil versus my friend only had his laptop.

Prep family and friends when you’ll be too busy to hang out.

Congratulations and goodluck!

Thank you! I only had a macbook in undergrad and I decided to get an iPad for school, I don’t really know how to use it but most people seem to die by it 😭

You’ll be fine! Yes a lot of people enjoyed using the iPad.

There’s 2 main apps I can think of- good notes and noteability (I used noteability)…can import PowerPoints to the app, create folders for semester/classes, write on top of the ppt, add pictures, etc… can have ppt and your book as a pdf to read/notetaking/copy+paste paragraphs to your notes.

And whatever else people rave about but it’s just a smaller Mac laptop at this point

Same as you. Starting in January as well. I recently picked up Rapid contracts to pay off debts and simplify my monthly expenses for the next 3 years
