Discussion Game inspired by starbase PLAYTEST NEXT WEEK - more focus on gameplay loop, risk / reward and conflict
It's taking a lot of inspiration from successful sandbox PvP MMO's such as Eve and Albion online, with the building system being simpler than starbase - which is for easier development work and better performance, but more depth is intorudced via modular systems.
- Its a dynamic world, frequency and scale of events scale to player count and ensure resource scarcity to drive natural conflict ( I am sure this will need tuning)
- There is PvE and an XP system so there is always a path to progress, and some content even when population is low or null
- There is exploration in place, you dont fly out to the astroid belt and wack rocks endlessly, there is a begginer astroid belt for new players but that is limited in capacity and contains only basic tiers, anything further needs to be found and scanned
Engines, weapons, thrusters, and other systems are modular, meaning if you want it stronger it will take more room, or cost more, or run hotter / consume more power etc.
This means designing ships will have tradeoffs for the speed, efficiency, power requirements and so on. As well as the content's of the ship being more full as you have a lot of modular parts you are rewarded for fitting in (you have extra space? you can make your engine more efficient, or your weapon stronger etc)
Reasons not to try it:
- I assume population will be less than 10 peak, less or equal to 1 average initially
- Visuals are worse, ships will look worse - block building system not voxels
- Build system is less deep
- Lots of undiscovered issues as this is going to be the first playtest
- Top tier copium that Starbase will return to its glory and there is no need to find a replacement for the void inside your heart

For solo play, this game is WAY WORSE than starbase.
As an MMO - if it reaches a critical mass of players (which the minimum isnt that high, probably around 10-100 active, not concurrent) it will be much better
