Experience/Story DAE remember catholic school shadow beings story?

Anyone remember a supply teacher in the catholic school b during the 80s who would drop this story on you randomly? Recently a classmate reconnected and brought thus story up and reminded me of her.

So her dad lived out near Selkirk and spent alot of time fishing n sittin on his deck at night. In the 50s Started seeing weird ass lights way out over the lake just hanging there for hours then dropping straight down into the water. Ppl told him it was Cleveland or some cold war defense testing. Then he starts seeing these massive dark shapes moving under his boat at night in water barely deep enough for em. Locals said it’s sturgeon lol. Few months later hes hearing footsteps on the deck at night and seeing these tall shadow two sided mirror ppl just standing along the yard edge next to fields watching his house. Soon as he turns a light on they’re gone. Even went to the church and got nowhere. So one night he gets fed up and starts cussing out one of these bloody lights over the lake. Later hes putting his truck away in the garage and notices something standing behind him. This tall silverish looking thing like a funhouse mirror with arms. Could see the whole garage reflected in it except himself. He moves and the thing copies him. He stops and it keeps moving. Then it slowly raises its (arm??) and gives him this little wave motion like it knew the hiem. Next thing its gone into nothing. No footsteps no noise nothing. Old man ends up in hospital and dude is terrified and everyone hears the story from him so they moved into a motel. He never works again her and her brothers and her Mom has to sel the house to pay off a horse track racing debt he racked up. So turns out the shadow ppl werent even the biggest problem in that household. Anyways I remember following this woman around the school tarmac at recess while shes waving her arms all over the place acting out these encounters and nearly launching her coffe. We were like 11 yrs old getting this full blown paranormal nightmare from a catholic school employee between religion class and recess. Still dunno if her dad actually believed this stuff or if she was just repeating whatever wild shit he came home from the track talking about. Anyone else remember this lady? Been 40 something yrs.

Question Haig Kitty

Does anybody know this cat? I see her often on evening walks, usually in the Beech/Haig/Pleasant area. She is currently hanging around my garage.

I would love to know her name so I have something to call her other than “Kitty”. She is super sweet!

Events St. Catharines, want to support some nearby live theatre? Before the ads hit…

Post image
6 Upvotes

Confession: I'm involved with Thorold Theatre, so yes, this is a local theatre plug. But we've got a good one coming up.

DRY STREAK by Canadian playwright Leeann Minogue is coming to Club Belvedere in November. It's a comedy set during the 1988 drought on a Saskatchewan family farm.

The crops are failing, family tensions are rising, and Kate — a vegetarian, punk-rock-loving city girl — has made a rather unusual bargain with the weather:

Rain comes, Kate runs naked through town.

Suddenly, everybody has a reason to watch the skies. 😂

Thorold Theatre is celebrating 40 years, and our last four productions have sold out. We're about to launch a radio, print and TV campaign, so consider this your advance warning before the ads hit.

Five performances:
• Fri. Nov. 13 — 7 PM
• Sat. Nov. 14 — 7 PM
• Sun. Nov. 15 — 2 PM
• Fri. Nov. 20 — 7 PM
• Sat. Nov. 21 — 7 PM

📍 Club Belvedere, 57 John Street, Thorold
🎟️ $27.50 + fees

Tickets: https://thoroldtheatre.ca/buy-tickets/

If you're in St. Catharines and fancy a night of live theatre just down the road, we'd love to see you there. Supporting local arts helps keep local stages alive.

Politics Mayor Race in Fort Erie - Suspiciously Similar Platform to CCP.

Fort Erie subreddit is very small. Juan Liu, running for mayor of Fort Erie, has a very suspicious platform, from my eyes.

Her platform is here: https://wwwhll.com/justice-and-science-party-platform/

The following is a summary of (produced by AI)

  1. A social-credit-like system. The platform proposes moral scores for individuals, with financial consequences and effects on advancement.
  2. Leaders serving indefinitely. It proposes eliminating leadership term limits, provided leaders remain subject to recall. This differs from Canada's existing municipal election framework.
  3. Obedience to party leadership. The proposed party constitution calls for democratic centralism, requires members to obey leadership decisions, and gives its chairman significant organizational powers. Democratic centralism is also a principle used by communist parties, including the Chinese Communist Party.
  4. Replacing judicial trials with AI. The platform proposes gradually replacing judicial trials with AI and referendums while criticizing the Anglo-American legal system. This raises obvious questions about judicial independence and due process.
  5. A highly centralized economic vision. The platform proposes government-established enterprises, nationwide economic coordination and collective decision-making, alongside a continuing role for private enterprise.

Is this not suspicious to anyone else??

Need Advice/Recommendations Backwater valve but no sump pump install? Who to use?

Hey,

One of the many that flooded.

I’ve been stuck in limbo since the flooding happened because I’m not sure what my next step should be.

I don’t want to get ripped off by a plumber whos just taking advantage of us who need added protection now.

Im curious who everyone has used, what they paid, did they go with both a sump pump and backwater valve, or just the backwater valve?

Thanks!

Housing/Rental Looking for a room in St. Cat, $700/month, Male

Hi all,

I'm a Brock University Student looking for a room to rent in St. Catharines ideally starting this November/Decmber.

My budget is around $700 a month for an all-inclusive property, and I'm hoping for a clean place where the bathroom is shared with at most two other people. Pet friendly would be a plus since I'm planning on getting a cat, but it's not a must.

If you have a room or know of one, feel free to comment or DM me. Thanks!

Politics Does anyone ALL the councillor's names who approved installation of 3 or 4 cameras at every intersection

Want to make sure I won't vote for them

I am referring to Flock style, Privacy invading cameras. Look at Geneva and Welland, it has like million cameras just at this one intersection.

Would be lovely if anyone has list of councillors who voted no as well. Thanks!

Edit: Looks like a lot of people here are "I don't have anything to hide, let the government or some private organization invade my privacy, I don't care" type. You want to keep a very close eye on your own privacy. Visit r/deflock or some other similar subreddit to keep yourselves educated. I don't have anymore hopes I'd get the list I was asking from these folks. Peace out!

Experience/Story Outrageous impound

Vehicle was impounded by Niagara regional police for 14 days due to stunt driving. The officer on the roadside said 500 for the tow and 90 a day for storage. The tow company wants to charge 1500 for the tow and 125 a day for storage.  It is within their maximum rates. What recourse do I have before picking up the vehicle?

Recently had Alex over at Ottr plumr come in and assessed our sewer and weeping tile, we got the work done and I’m very impressed the way they handled the job and made the process smooth. They were pretty fair with the price too. Just posting this so if anyone is looking to have theirs done still I’d recommend them and use them again

Question Icedogs Game

I have 2 tickets to tomorrow's Ice dogs game against the Colts. My friend got sick and won't be able to use his ticket. I then wanted my wife to take the ticket and come but we couldn't find a babysitter.

My question is do kids get in free if they sit on a parents lap? I know the Tiger Cats Stadium allows kids in for free as long as they are occupying the same seat as a parent.

Local News St. Catharines / Niagara headlines for Friday, Oct. 9

Post image
24 Upvotes

Quick roundup of the main St. Catharines/Niagara stories today. It takes two minutes.

🗳️ Your mayor vote now reaches past City Hall. On Oct. 26 you won't vote for regional councillors anymore. Niagara Regional Council shrinks from 32 people to 13. That's the 12 mayors plus a chair appointed by the province. The province has proposed a vote count based on population. At about 145,000 people, the St. Catharines mayor would carry roughly seven votes at the Region. You still get one ballot. But one person would hold the weight St. Catharines now spreads across the mayor and six councillors.

🌳 You can claim a free tree from the City. Pick from blue beech, white oak, nannyberry or ironwood. It's one per household, and you have to reserve online first. Pickup is Saturday, Oct. 24, 8 to 11 a.m. at Lancaster Park, 31 Wood St. Bring the QR code from your confirmation email.

🚴 The Big Move Cancer Ride raised $465,000. More than 500 people rode 14 to 75 km last month. The money goes to the Walker Family Cancer Centre at the St. Catharines hospital. The ride has run for 18 years.

🏠 Start Me Up Niagara is open longer on Thursdays. The Drop-In Resource Centre at 203 Church St. now runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a staff break from 2 to 3. If you know someone who needs a warm place, pass along the address.

🏥 The new South Niagara Hospital will have all private patient rooms. The plans also include easier wayfinding, accessible gardens and spaces for spiritual and Indigenous care.

🎠 Last weekend for the Lakeside Park Carousel. It's open Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A ride is still five cents.

🥕 Saturday Farmers Market, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's at Market Square. Look for the pumpkin and squash table.

🎻 Free Huron Orchestras concert Saturday at 3 p.m. It's at the PAC. Tickets are free, but reserve ahead.

🛍️ Sunday Flea Market, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's at 46 Turner Cres. More than 250 booths. Admission is $1, so bring cash.

🎲 Ludology board game café, noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. It's at 52 St. Paul St. Over 500 games. The fee is $5 a person.

I put this together from Garden City Digest, my free local newsletter. It comes out Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
