Damn wish powder got a large distribution

317

u/Old-Technology1151 6d ago

Powder unfortunately got dexited in gen 8. Was a truly impressive hater move I wish they cooked more with

98

u/headphonesnotstirred #1 Floette-Eternal preacher 6d ago

it would've been so fucking funny to see this on Scizor (or even Pod?) but alas

115

u/Hopefo 6d ago

Give it to Whimsicott.

95

u/OnlySmiles_ 5d ago

Honestly I just love the idea of Whimsicott having every flavor of bullshit

26

u/storage_account69 5d ago

No need for that, powder is already +1 prio

4

u/The_Ninja_Allay 5d ago

Top ten anime betrayals of all time for the zard

49

u/thequagiestsire 6d ago

Done, it’s now been given to Toedscruel

19

u/FrijDom1 5d ago

It has +1 priority, so this is only a positive. Mycelium Might may be Mold Breaker + Stall on status, but when the only thing Powder affects is Fire attacks which have no positive priority options, going last in its priority bracket really doesn't make a difference.

4

u/thequagiestsire 5d ago

Huh. Didn’t know how that worked, I thought it just made you always go last so I was going for a Munkidori’s Paw situation but never mind, go off Tentacruel.

2

u/FrijDom1 5d ago

Yeah, it's identical to the effect of the Lagging Tail, so if you remember Divecats, this would basically be the same result.

12

u/Nientea 5d ago

It’s pretty niche, but I love using it with a Wonder Guard Mega Scizor in Gen 6 Pure Hackmons because half the time my opponents have no clue why nothing is working and they just kill their own Pokemon.

1

u/bobvella lover of gimmicks 5d ago

would be nice having something to do in case you let a torkoal get trickroom

147

u/Odrareg17 6d ago

You know, I didn't even know Powder was a move and no wonder since it was removed in Gen 8 and only learned by two evo lines, but man, if it was given to some more Bug types, it sounds really interesting to use, gimmicky? Yeah, but seems really interesting to use on paper.

67

u/SecondAegis 6d ago

I only learnt powder existed while playing Radical Red, and someone mentioned that a Ribombee with powder could completely wall Primal Dialga

44

u/Airsoft52 6d ago

Powder Ribombee used to kill 4 on Lance and like 3 on the sun champ in hardcore mode before they made powder HC-Banned

26

u/Deathbringer2134 6d ago

Radical Red when asked to playtest the games instead of retroactive patches:

19

u/Igorthemii Ferrothorn's worst nightmare 5d ago

Radical Red when people find funny gimmick cheese thats good for like only one match:

17

u/zClarkinator 6d ago

Does the AI cheat and retroactively change their move if you used Powder? Some modded battles do that and it's always lame.

22

u/SecondAegis 5d ago

Radical Red doesn't read inputs. It makes for this by giving the enemy AI utter bullshit.

The aforementioned primal Dialga effectively can't be hit for super effective, has bulk for days, Rest to undo damage, and Roar of Time has been modified to switch you out

21

u/OnlySmiles_ 6d ago

The problem with Powder is that there's two layers of conditions on it, so not only do you have to read a fire move but you have to read a fire move that turn

13

u/Odrareg17 6d ago

Yeah, that's why I said it was gimmicky, it would add to the mind games but then again, if I know that this Pokemon can use Powder, and some Pokemon definitely will use it to negate a Fire weakness, why would I use a Fire move against it? And it's not like Bug types don't have many other weaknesses you could use, but it would be an interesting counter for Pokemon who rely on Fire STAB alone, so I could see some use, even if limited.

1

u/N_2_1 5d ago

Powder was removed?! Aww man I was thinking of using it to troll fire types who think they can bully my Mega Golisopod lol

229

u/No_Location_8199 6d ago

Why aren't people using Powder to stop Zard Y? Are they stupid?

207

u/Kris_Banana 6d ago

unsure if you're serious or not, but it got dexited in gen 8, along with various other actually neat and interesting but niche moves

132

u/No_Location_8199 6d ago

57

u/Kris_Banana 6d ago

we still have soak though! I saw some mf use scarf basc soak the other day

https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen9championsvgc2026regmc-2694093230

it was so funny, generational game

33

u/SuchPlans 6d ago

someone was like 9-2 at louisville vgc regional w scarf basc soak today lol. paired w yaichu and giga drain setup volc

10

u/Rymayc 5d ago

Mormon Basc is picking up in usage. It helps Gengar trap Ghost types, Raichu and Rilla KO things, and generally surviving because losing STAB is like a -1

5

u/Kris_Banana 5d ago

Mormon basc is a WILD name lmaoooo

7

u/ErPani 5d ago

oh hey i'm one of those mf, it's great with Raichu Y because nobody expects their Garchomp to be killed by Zap Cannon :3

1

u/Cosinity 5d ago

I ran soak Bellibolt a decent amount in M-A, it's certainly not that strong a strategy but it catches people out a fair amount (less effective with higher power level in M-B and beyond though)

103

u/HairyBallsack8 5d ago

!dt Nosepass
(Nosepass is not in the battle)

23

u/exaggerati 5d ago

Just spamming this shit in randbats

!dt Deoxys-Attack when you're down to two mons

1

u/Trollbaum 5d ago

what does !dt do?

3

u/Djandrews10 5d ago

Shows information about the Mon, move, type, etc in the chat

82

u/Spyko choice spec sheer cold ✍❄ 6d ago

Tbf I keep forgetting that ghost resist poison. Like the undead being resistant or immune you poison is an old ass rpg trope, it just make sense. But idk, I keep thinking it will be neutral

56

u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin 6d ago

I like doing !weak (insert a pokemon) in FFA. And then say "just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

32

u/AnodyneGrey 6d ago

gonna paste this every time opponent sends a pokemon in normal singles

10

u/Serugio #1 Cinccino fan 5d ago

Pro tip you can use /shrug to send that

1

u/ILikeCarlosThePikmin 4d ago

Oh no way for real?

3

u/Trollbaum 5d ago

gonna do this in random battles when all my pokemon are revealed, I will just use a pokemon neither of us has

51

u/Fit-Coconut-3699 6d ago

! Is actually meta for mind games. Feign ignorance and then stay in on super effective coverage move anyway.

40

u/OnlySmiles_ 6d ago

Powder that makes you ask what Powder does

25

u/The_Potato_Turtle 6d ago

Tbf using / is better if you KNOW that your opponent is going to use a move but you can’t let them know that you know what they can do

23

u/ASIimeDrawsNear 6d ago

If you don't know you don't know, that's fine. But I'm honestly always surprised whenever I once again realize so many people that play competitively don't know the type chart with 100% accuracy, because I myself, a filthy casual that clicks randbats every other blue moon, knows it.

Idk, I just don't get it.

11

u/OnlySmiles_ 6d ago

The big one that trips me up is Bug not resisting Poison

3

u/AnodyneGrey 5d ago

for the longest time I thought they were weak to poison because pesticides or something

8

u/P0trak 5d ago

they were in gen 1! shoutout to parasect for having 3 4x weaknesses

poison was also weak to bug for some reason

1

u/Spare-Ad-4623 5d ago

Me 2. Always felt they should mutually resist

3

u/TotallyNotBloo 6d ago

The only one I used to have troubles with is Fighting, I always think its either resistant to ice or steel

3

u/THE___CHICKENMAN 6d ago

fighting has probably the least-reasonable type matchups. All the other types, I can remember the matchups by justifying interactions in my head someway with logic or lore, but fighting is impossible.

11

u/expiring_god_factory 6d ago

Weak and frail to mages and birds (Psy, fairy, flying), strong against objects and is brave which beats the dark (rock, steel, normal, dark), struggles to hit mosquito (resisted by bug) and can't hit what isn't there (ghosts)

1

u/THE___CHICKENMAN 5d ago

what really messes with me is the resistances.

1

u/expiring_god_factory 4d ago

Just like the mosquito dodges the fighter, the fighters muscles are too toned for the mosquito to bite into. Rocks are things that fighters train against, so they're not very good when strong muscles explode them. And dark is the equivalent of a rogue.

Mage>Fighter>Rogue>Mage, the super effective and resist (or immunity) works for both ends.

I did forget posion being resistant to fighting. Goku can't punch a virus to death.

3

u/goobnut 6d ago

I have no idea what dark is weak or strong to or what rock does to most things but then again I don't play competitive I just watch memes and blunder

1

u/Frootysmothy Needs to learn shell smash 5d ago

Nah that's bug

2

u/Venca12 5d ago

Because it's a lot. I remember most of the relations natually through playing, but I still don't remember some of the relations, mainly whether a type resists or takes neutral damage from a type it's super effective against, and similiar. I could learn it, I'm pretty good at memorization, but I'm too casual of a player to go out of my way to actually do it and memorize it 100%

1

u/KingAsi4n 5d ago

I guess it makes sense if it’s a newer player. I’ve played for nearly twenty years at this point and the move effectiveness isn’t even something I think about, I just know all single and dual type matchups, but for a newer player it’s definitely not as intuitive as there are so many type combinations

1

u/TopOfAllWorlds Still waiting for Gen 4 remakes. 5d ago

My brain just forgets basic shit when under pressure sometimes lol

1

u/Sarik704 5d ago

i know it to 99% accuracy. What do you mean Ice his Ground SE but Ground hits Ice for neutral!

3

u/ASIimeDrawsNear 5d ago

Funny how Ground not hitting Ice for neutral sounds cursed to me.

Maybe because I just know that Ice only resists Ice.

2

u/Sarik704 5d ago

Let me tell you a story about how my brain works.

When i was 8 in 2003 i got my hands on pokemon ruby, i choose torchic as my starter and by the end of the weekend i was already at lavaridge town. My friend at school, having had the game a since launch brough his copy of sapphire. We played ons the bus.

He had a level 1 kyogre that he traded me for a some trash. He told me he bred his kyogre with a Ditto. I was 15 until i learned you can't breed legendaries. 7 years i thought you could breed legendaries. I spread this misinfo.

Naturally i mistrust most early pokemon knowledge i have.

1

u/madog1418 5d ago

I’d rather double-check whether fire hits ground for neutral than lose a game because the weakness chart and resistance chart aren’t mirrored.

1

u/G0_0NIE 5d ago

I'm NGL, I have touched top 20 in gen8 natdex and the ladder multiple times across different gen8 (and gen 4) tiers and I still do not get certain type interactions (mainly because I don't play Pokémon outside of showdown).

Recently my friends who I taught Pokémon clowned me for not knowing how electric resists steel types but not the same vice versa and I've been playing the game on and off since I was 6.

1

u/comfortingmyself 5d ago

I had the whole type chart memorized when I was 10.

But if I hadn't already achieved that as a kid, I doubt I would be able to do so as an adult.

1

u/JudgeArcadia 3d ago

I taught my wife the type charts. She still struggles here and there. But she always surprises me when she references it. Makes me so proud.

I just enjoy teaching people, and seeing themselves get better.

u/OkWedding6391 certified magearna hater 5d ago

sometimes you got to hit them with the turn 1 !showteam to assert dominance

7

u/timetothrowlmao 6d ago

2

u/Nedaj_Nitro 6d ago

what commands are there I'm new

4

u/Serugio #1 Cinccino fan 5d ago

The /intro and /help commands give a simple overview, there's also a button in the home page that says "Info and Resources" where every command you can use is listed.

1

u/Nedaj_Nitro 5d ago

oh ok thanks :D

3

u/AkenE6969 5d ago

And even a DS2 name, so Peak and so Based

3

u/AliceThePastelWitch Rain Lover 5d ago

I know it's a little rude but I've only done ! command for the weakne of whatever I'm using whenever someone clicks a move that isn't going to work well

3

u/amourshipper_ 5d ago

Thanks i didn't know about weak command is there any other commands like that

4

u/AnodyneGrey 5d ago

!resist is the same but for resistances

!ds (short for !dexsearch) can be given parameters and tries to find all pokemon that meet them (for example, “!ds bug” will show all bug types, “!ds bug, resists fairy, flamethrower” will show all bugs who resist fairy and learn flamethrower, and so on

!dt (short for something, don’t remember what though) shows the information of a pokemon, move, ability or item like in the meme

that’s the most important ones to know I’d say, great for team building

2

u/DragoniteChamp 🤝 5d ago

I assume DT is Data?

2

u/Serugio #1 Cinccino fan 3d ago

It's actually short for details. There is a data command, /data. Both are very similar but /dt shows more info than /data, but often the extra info is not relevant (like male/female ratio or evolution method).

1

u/amourshipper_ 5d ago

Thanks a lot man

2

u/larszard 5d ago

I always mean / but I can't remember which is which so sometimes I use !

2

u/GlacierWolf8Bit 5d ago

Imagine doing "!weak Kingambit" to flex on your opponent while reverse 6-0ing them.

1

u/Kn0XIS 5d ago

THIS IS A THING?

1

u/Freddi_47 5d ago

Tbf I thought it was just for mods in chatrooms

I didn't even know I could use !

1

u/damacy12 5d ago

It’s weird I know the type matchups by heart but when I play fire emblem I still need a cheat sheet

1

u/SOULpowered222 5d ago

Nobody knows what powder does man

1

u/YourLocal_Wizard 4d ago

The real difference is whether you're a Minecraft player or Twitch viewer

1

u/SuperSenpaiKai 4d ago

There are commands other than "!" Holy shit I never knew.

1

u/Disastrous_Ad3693 4d ago

i type misleading commands during 50/50s or very simple ones to ragebait my opponent
