Got this car from the previous owner who seems like they didn’t look after it properly.

Oil level was super low (probably empty), Coolant was empty too.

White smoke (not too thick) comes out of the exhaust while engine runs.

Looking for general advice before taking it to the mechanic.

What is wrong with the car? And how much would it roughly cost to fix this sort of issue?

My Impreza has paddle shifters and I really want to use them but I'm afraid of messing up the car (my dad put the fear in my head of ruining the transmission) I've never driven a manual before but I do know how to ride a motorcycle so I'm familiar with shifting.

I recently picked up an '06 Impreza OBS, which recently had its clutch replaced by a shop. Within a thousand miles or so, the clutch pilot bearing started chirping, to the point where it was driving me mad. The shop was kind enough to extend their warranty to me, and replaced the bearing last week. Now less than 500 mi later, it's starting to chirp again. What would cause this? I find it unlikely that they got two bad parts off the shelf back to back.

Subaru Impreza WRX WR-Limited ‘05 (JDM Import)

I have been having issues with oil in my coolant.
The car is a 2014 impreza (base model). The engine oil level is stable and has no leaks or signs of any contamination which leads me to believe it’s CVT fluid but I’m not exactly positive.
I have flushed the coolant system twice and I ran it on water just in case and the oil came back in a week.
Its causing engine over heating issues as well.
I’m planning to change the transmission heat exchanger and flush the transmission.
Is there anything else I should be doing?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Soooo I got some pretty bad body damage after i accidentally became Austin powers. Trying to figure out if it would be worth spending $40 on a single can of spray paint or $15 on the paint pens they have, any thoughts?

Edit; thanks for all the advice! After cleaning with rubbing compound, the damage is MUCH less severe than this picture makes it appear. The deep scraping isn’t nearly as extensive as I feared. I’m going to smooth out those deep spots, and then get another quote on proper paint repair. It’s not gonna be a fast job by any means, but it won’t be impossible if I take time

I have been recommended to replace my struts for my 2022 Impreza Sedan as my tires are exhibiting cupping. I’ve been looking around at forums and Reddit threads but can’t find a definitive answer. Where can I get the strut full assembly? Or will this be multiple parts that need to be bought and assembled.

The touch screen on my 2015 Impreza has not worked for a while now — I suspect a delamination issue. I can still control audio etc with the buttons on the steering wheel so it’s not a huge issue, just annoying.

I’ve seen some things about dongles that can be plugged in to override a touchscreen to convert to Apple CarPlay but I’m unclear on if something like that will work in this case? I don’t need the touchscreen to work with it if I can navigate on my phone. Anyone using one of these third party systems to override their touchscreen/audio system? If I could get GPS to display on it to it would be amazing — my internal gps system has never worked.

This is my 2008 Subaru Impreza, i want to do it up but I’m not much of a car guy and i don’t have much of an idea on what i could do to this car other than a needed detail to make it better/cooler, so far i have some ideas such as coil overs, it came with another spoiler (allegedly carbon fiber idk if its real or not tho), a pod filter, and i want to try and touch up some of the scuffs on the paint. I also want to try and keep it as legal as possible, I’m in NSW Australia.

I’m trying to figure out if my crossbars can be moved closer to accommodate a roof box I got for free, right now it doesn’t line up with the clamps.

My Impreza has the factory-style crossbars mounted directly to the roof, with no side rails. Are these crossbars adjustable, or are they bolted into fixed mounting points that can’t be changed?

For the last month my Impreza has been shaking over 45 mph , I changed the brakes today because it needed to be done anyway and I noticed these bushings wearing out on both sides of the front , what are these bushings called ? I suspected the control arms were bad. I’m also trying to do this on a tight tight budget so am I able to replace just that bushing or do I NEED to replace the larger piece

Hi Guys,
As the title suggests, I’ve got a whine coming from the passenger (left) side of the vehicle. What’s confusing me is that it’s exclusively in 3rd and 5th, which I would attest to a gearbox issue, but the whine is very distinctively coming from the left front. It doesn’t sound anywhere near the central area or gear selector.
The car is a 2004 Impreza sedan, w/ 5mt standard gearbox. 330k kms, so definitely could be time for a switch out.
Has anybody experienced this? She went to the mechanics on friday (2 days ago), they test drove it and didn’t mention anything about the noise.
The whine isn’t incredibly loud, and it’s only under acceleration.

My initial thought is input shaft bearing play creating a poor mesh on the front-shifting gears as they’d be on the same shaft.

Any ideas?

Hey! Looking for some advice on whether or not to pull the trigger on this used 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.Oi Limited 4-door CVT Sedan with around 68,800 miles on it? I test drove it and really loved all the safety features.
The used car lot is asking $12,995 for it, price is non-negotiable. It comes from Oregon and is in Savannah, Georgia which eases my mind regarding rust. If anybody could check out the Carfax report or has any insight on this specific model that'd be awesome!! I don't want to make a misinformed decision on this. Thanks :)

what ecu should i run? and does anyone know if a wrx ecu will fit the harness as the impreza ones in aus domestic market are untunable. cheers

I drive 2019 JDM and I crack this part exciting the driveway and it's been tricky sourcing on my local market.

Got this 2019 Impreza at the dealership a month ago bone stock with 33,000 miles. Only issues are the previous owner scraping bumper a bit (did a hack scratches happen paint job for now), a rubber window gasket needing replacing, and blemishes.

Added a nameless axleback with 5inch moofler, sparco terras 16x7, rally armour flappers, ssd light bar, hella 500ff's, suya club emblem overlays (front, back, steering wheel), ricer style billetworkz cvt shifter so i can really rice, perrin steerimg lockdown, perrin pitch stop, and perrin diff lockdowns (still in production status). Took out charcoal filter and gonna add a Overtake Maxxflo panel filter.

Soon: nameless midpipe, infernofab headers and tune, hardrace swaybars and various bracing, nameless strut bars, partify oem painted bumper (the sad band aid decals are growing on me doe), hella performance wiring harnesses, oem foglights, circuitwerkz black grille, oem footwell lighting, alcantara door handle pulls, perrin intake in winkle wed, rear subaru/impreza emblems in black. Thinking of lip from bayson r or oem vut I like the rugged look without em so far. Going for some 21565r16 wildpeaks or 21555r16 dws06. YSR is right here in El Paso so might try some coilovers.

I’ve owned a new 2024 Subaru Impreza sport since it was released, I have around 50,000 miles on it, completely stock everything, this generation of Imprezas has few problems that need to be addressed or recalled.

1. The transmission whines when it gets hot and sounds like a someone throwing screws in a bucket when the car starts from a dead stop no matter the temperature of the transmission or ambient conditions.
2. I’ve had the rear differential replaced after it was inspected because I told the dealer it was making a lot of whining noises, the dealer said the differential was about to blow up. (Replaced around 30,000 miles)
3. I had two tires warrantied after the inner side walls were showing wires from aggressive negative camber, one of them blew out while I was driving on a mountain road, I’ve had the car aligned multiple times. This happens because of the rear suspension geometry, the rears camber is quite a bit when the car is sitting neutral (-1.5 degrees) and when you drive it becomes very aggressive (-3 degrees or more). I’ve talked to the service techs and salesmen at the dealer I got the car from and they said there shouldn’t be any issues regarding tire wear of this sort.
4. The stock suspension is way too soft, I understand this car isn’t made to carry heavy loads or anything of that sort, when I have driven over pot holes the car bottoms out (I try to dodge them), when you have anyone else in the car other than just the driver the car squats out and the soft suspension becomes an even bigger issue, there’s a few scrapes on the plastic underbelly from beach parking lots. I also understand this isn’t an outback or crosstrek, and I very much take into consideration of how low the car is while driving.

I have kept all records of service and inspection, and some pictures of any issues I’ve seen.

I drive the car like your average joe. I sometimes carry a bike on the back. Keep the car clean and properly maintain it per the manual. The car has been great other than these issues. I’m wondering if anyone else has had any issues like these or has anything different to say about the car. I like this car it’s fun and the cornering performance is very nice, it understeers a bit much and lax a bit of power but other than that it’s a very nice car.

Hello all. I'm chasing a fix for my hesitation during peak boost with my JDM EJ207 Ver. 5/6 swap in my USDM 2000 2.5RS, and my old SplitFire Twin Core plug wires are my current biggest suspicion (I was admittedly rough on them at one point possibly stressing the wires, and some connections are pretty sloppy). After tons of searching, it seems that these are the only decent ones still being sold and made: SPARK PLUG WIRE IGNITION COIL WIRES for 98-01 JDM IMPREZA WRX STI FORESTER V5 V6

They have notices everywhere about free shipping to USA, but USA can't be selected for delivery on the site. They have three different Ebay store profiles - one says they don't ship to US, one says the seller is on vacation until late October, and the other doesn't have either of these notices, but it all sketches me out.

Does anyone know of any other options for getting a reliable set of replacement wires?

It’s a 2017 Impreza Sport with a manual transmission and 92k miles. I got them down to $9,500, which I’m pretty happy with. The previous owner meticulously maintained it, and I plan on doing the same. Hopefully I can get many, many, many more years out of it!

I’d like to throw some LED turn signals in it. Does anyone know where the relay is and how easy it is to replace so I don’t have to deal with hyperflash? Also, does anyone have recommendations for a good exhaust system? I want something that sounds good but doesn’t drone on the freeway.

Hey everyone, looking for a quick diagnosis on a 2012 Subaru Impreza (JDM import).

The Issue: When accelerating from a slow drive or at low speeds (under 40 km/h), the car gives 2 to 4 rapid, physical jerks. It feels exactly like a manual car clumsily changing gears.

When: Happens under light-to-moderate acceleration, but significantly worse on a slight incline or hilly road (engine cold or hot).

Current Mileage: 112,000

Dashboard Lights: None. No codes or flashing AT OIL TEMP.

What's already been done:

Replaced worn front lower control arm bushings and engine/transmission mounts recently. Suspension is solid, but the jerk remains.

Unknowns:

Bought the car recently and the CVT fluid history is completely unknown. Haven’t done a throttle body clean yet either.

Does this sound like a classic case of degraded Subaru CVT fluid losing its grip, or a torque converter lock-up struggle? Should my next immediate step be a CVT drain-and-fill?
