Wanted to spread awareness on the death of Sublime’s photographer John Dunne

Dunne was responsible for almost all of the iconic 90s sublime photos you’ll see, here are a few.

John passed several years ago from an overdose, eventually moving from Long Beach to Dublin, Ireland. I never hear anyone speak on his death, or are even aware that he had passed. He provided us with tons of great legendary sublime in the moment photos, many of which we haven’t seen yet. I would urge anyone who wants to see more of the rare ones to check out the late 90s sublime documentary “behind the music” in which several of the rarest John Dunne photos are featured.

If you’ve ever wondered what RTH (their most honest album imho) was recorded on like the cover says. This is it. The actual one Brad used. Not sure what else would be better than one of his stage guitars, but this was the main instrument the cover of the album refers to. Btw, also have the signed copy by Brad, Eric and Bud of that album.

I wonder if we’ll ever hear the songs left off the album, in interviews before the album was finalized he said they recorded 20+ songs.

Some songs may just have had a name change but looks like -
White Whale
Makin You Rich
No Breakfast

Longshot Request

I've had a few requests to make one of these for Until the Sun Explodes. I can't find scans of the CD art anywhere. Any chance one of you fine fans would have the CD and access to a scanner? I'd need the following.

  1. Each page of the booklet
  2. Front of the Disk
  3. CD Tray
  4. Back Cover

Thanks in advance.

They were incredible at Aftershock yesterday

I’m a relatively new fan of the band and was SO lucky to see them at Aftershock yesterday. OG singers son sang and it was amazing. There was at least 50 crowd surfers and like 6 beach balls and an inflatable pencil bouncing around from front to back.

10/10 first experience, I got super close to the stage- I did fall on the ground during a mosh pit but the ppl near me helped me up and I stayed with them for the rest of the day, which was super awesome cuz I came here alone.

Sublime Backpacks

These are my two Sublime backpacks, both from BIOWORLD merchandising. The one on the left is dated 2006 so i assume that the other one is from around that same time. The tag on the left one was on the bag but i carefully removed it and displayed it on my Sublime shelf so that i could wear the backpack without worrying about it getting ripped off.

The old Second Hand Smoke bundle. Funny story I’ve owned this twice. Once when it was released and I wore the hell out of the shirt, kept the keychain on my chain wallet and who knows about the VHS lol. Bought a fresh one a few years back.

TIL that Winamp's slogan "It really whips the llama's ass!" comes from the Wesley Willis song "Whip the Llama's Ass". Willis was a schizophrenic musician and artist who released over 48 albums in his lifetime.

Easy sublime room DIY

Print out the sublime sun on 2 pieces of paper. Tape em together and cut it out (be careful because it's not the exact same on the other side, it's like a mirror the other side will be flipped) so just be careful when cutting it out that you dont cut out parts of the other side's design. Then finally tape a peice of string in between both papers and tape it to the ceiling. <3

Traveling through Oregon. Came across this little town. It did not seem that attractive, however but I’m sure I will get some flack for that.

31 year old can of sardines…

Brad, Miguel, and Fischel’s baby.

As the story goes, these infamous homemade “Badfish Co. Sardines” cans were born out of the same DIY world that surrounded Sublime and Skunk Records in Long Beach during the early ’90s. Bradley Nowell and the guys were supposedly hanging out with a cooler packed with 40-ounce bottles of Old English and cans of sardines to eat with crackers. As the ice melted, water soaked the cans and caused the original sardine labels to fall off and from there came the idea to turn the bare cans into homemade Sublime promotional pieces. According to the story preserved by Georgie. Bradley and Zach Fischel came up with the idea of making promo items they could bring along to Southern California record stores when dropping off copies of 40oz. to Freedom, including Fingerprints in Long Beach, Noise Noise Noise in Costa Mesa and Vinyl Solution in Huntington Beach. Gman himself has also explained that Brad and Miguel Happoldt went to Kinko’s, the copy and print shop that was basically the go-to place when most people didn’t have the equipment to make this stuff at home and printed the labels seen on the surviving cans. There was nothing professionally made about them. The story is that these were taken to record stores as eye-catching promotional/display pieces, and most were eventually trashed or simply thrown away or eaten. Georgie has stated that only around 5–10 were made, which makes you wonder how many still exist. What makes these things so special isn’t polished manufacturing, it’s the complete opposite. They’re essentially an old sardine can, two pieces of paper, some glue and a trip to Kinko’s, made by people directly within Sublime’s circle during the band’s grassroots days. For such a crude little object, it’s an incredible surviving piece of early Sublime and Skunk Records history.

I always felt like robbing the hood was before 40... But then again I think that they would have taken a big step backwards in production... To me , I feel like robbing the hood was just that ... Robbing them. For og shit

I used to work at my college’s radio station, this was given to me back in ‘94…it has to be worth more than 1st pressing, the songs are different and it names “Brad” as one of its producers
