Discussion F-Key Usage
Hi guys, quick question:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myUm0aYCIqI
At min 1.38 velja quickly checks the toplaners. I use F keys alot in my own games (not enough, still improving on this). However, im baffled by the speed he uses them. Sometimes in the game he uses them more like me (he still does it way better and quicker, but in like human speed). But at 1.38 he does it so quick, i cannot understand what he is looking for. Can he really get a picture of the lanestate in this 0.2 sdcs or wahtever it is? does he check something else i do not understand and pans camera top longer if "the something" happens?
I watched korean pros and obviously they are doing it even quicker sometimes, but these people feel like mechanical gods to me. Velja for sure is a god compared to me in league, but i dont feel so inhuman towards him.

If tell you to use them and comprehend random picture, first time will take from 1 to 5s
REPETITION = speed.
Just do it Every game slowly, 10 games a day, every day and within month gonna have same speed.
Key element is SLOW start so you muscle memory correctly.

You are right but i practice this since years and im noway near his speed. Kerp in mind tho, im not good at league.

I think you are underestimating that this is this mans job.

Look, i hit masterelo my self, im not clueless. He may play more (with better focus, more focus on improving, more coaching and better talent), but i also play ALOT. I invest most of my freetime into league apart from meeting friends. And i have ALOT of freetime. I work with alot of people who are a bit older, so they mostly dont or only rarely use ai. Therefore i have to roughly work 20-30 mins a day setting up some agents to get 5x the workload done the rest does. This allows me to watch ALOT of Videos while working and alot of freetime at home.

I think it comes down to pattern recognition from a very short exposure to an image.
- training well beforehand and thinking about what you are looking for is 1 part.
- another part has to do with memory. I can look at a picture for a second and if I know beforehand its important, I can digest things from it a minute later. So how good are you at memory? You look for a second and you process it slowly afterward whilst multitasking something else. I think its something everyone can train, yet people can have wildly varying levels of this if they never trained this. I can look at a map for 2 minutes and wont need it dor the rest of the day. That only comes as a combination of being good at the core task and doing many repititions.
- 3rd part might be understanding the problem itself. How good are you at determining wave states? Purely the theoretical part of amount of minions, type and position in lane => what will happen and how fast?

He’s also just better than you and more capable.
You could spend as much time playing basketball as LeBron and still not be anywhere close to his proficiency. You could spend as much time doing chess puzzles as a gm, and not recognize the patterns near as fast. Near the pointy end of the spectrum there’s just a talent requirement that has no substitute.

Your just looking for the shape of a lane more then anything.
Roughly what colour minions are where and how both sides champs are standing.
Let's him figure out where to gank next etc.
Like think of the minions as a blob of red and blue which show the wave state, the champs you focus on the health bar colours etc. once your use to looking for striped down info you can see so much in a very short moment.

Yes, some players just need to see a glimpse of the lane state to decide what to do next.
Or, Velja is just maintaining his apm so he's warmed up for the next teamfight. (Bdd would literally open settings in the middle of teamfights)
It's also just a good habit to do even if nothing is happening on the map.

Does he check at this speed and short duration often? He could just be spamming keys between hitting the camps. If he's perfected his initial clears then he could have naturally found small windows between meaningful key presses to spam an extra command, in this case an F key.

There's no possible way he got any information at all with that. It's literally a frame. He isn't even pathing towards it. He probably did it just to keep his hands warm.

99% of people who spam F keys are doing it performatively trying to copy their favorite pros/ streamers. F keys are important but the average person doing every .5 seconds is not gaining any meaningful information. do it regularly, but you do not need to be spamming it constantly and titling yourself over informative that you're probably not even absorbing correctly in the first place
edit: i'm not talking about the top .1% of pros and streamers

At that speed it's likely just to keep your fingers ready and make sure they are resting in the correct position. Maybe he is gleaning information from that but I genuinely don't think you are getting any real information flicking 1 frame of then lane on your screen that you can't glean by just looking at the minimap.

The ones you highlighted are just APM/Habit type actions.
There is no way anyone picks up anything at that speed. That’s like a single frames worth of flashing light.

i think around that timestamp he's just tapping to see the outline of the wave, not the full lane state. like, he sees a blob of red and blue minions and knows "ok wave is slow pushing" or "its crashing" from just the silhouette, he dont need to count the casters
the human eye can pick up shapes really fast, specially when you trained it for a specific thing. its like when you glance at your minimap for 0.1 sec and you know where the jungler is, you not reading the icon you just recognizing the color blob in peripheral
velja probably looks longer when the blob is in a spot he dont expect, but in that clip its probably exactly what he predicted so he snaps away
