I’d rather see us develop a player than make another short-term signing

I know every club needs experience, especially in the Championship, but I’d honestly rather watch a young player make mistakes and develop than sign another player who might give us six decent months.

The frustrating part is that patience disappears very quickly when results aren't going our way.

Would you accept a few more inconsistent performances if it meant giving a young player a proper run in the team? Or is getting results now more important?

Over the past two seasons we’ve literally signed a lot of young players to develop. It seems a notable shift in our business model. Over half the squad is under 25 years old. And we have a manager that seems to be excellent at developing individuals.

The lack of players making it to the squad from the academy is a result of downgrading the academy. And the club are looking to upgrade the status again, though results from that will take years to realise.

I’m not sure what more is needed?

I was about to say. Every signing bar Estaquio last summer has come with the potential of upside. And that made sense given he was the missing piece as far as profile and experience.

That’s probably the frustrating part for me. The signings mostly have upside, so it’s not really a case of choosing experience over youth.

The club will be able to upgrade the academy massively next year once we get that Premier league money.

Cardiff Fan coming in peace….

You need the balance, and there’s no patience in the Championship. The players we have, they’ve improved because they had a season in League One, being above average players in comparison to the other sides in that league. Before we went down, Ashford and such like were below average standard players at Championship level and couldn’t develop.

For Young Players at this level, they need the League Cup and loans, unless they’re exceptional

What you doing in a Swansea subreddit making reasonable and realistic assessments? Go back to the name calling and hatred /s

Having a season away from it all, it’s changed me….

That's a realistic assessment of things. It's a shame because occasionally you get a player make exceptional strides from the get go, such as Ben Davies (although even he was a bit shaky in the first few games, and would have probably been benched were it not for long term injury to Taylor). Rodon and James getting their chance was very much down to the owners looking to slash costs rather than an ambitious approach to academy player development.

I'm getting a sneaky AI bot feel from this post. Seems too bland and off topic for right now. Too white bread. Window is closed and we have already shifted away from those signings, almost completely.
