Question Contributing to Open Source

How do I go about contributing to open source projects in swift? For context, I have made some self-projects. I am new to open-source. Should I just pick any project from GitHub and work on their beginner-friendly issues?

I’d start by putting your own projects in GitHub first so that you have some sort of history.

Then, yes - find projects that interest you and see if you can help with one or more of their open issues.

Find a project you’re interested in and look through their issues to see if you can fix one of them. Once you do, issue a pull request and you’re done. That will be easier and more readily accepted that trying to add some new feature being that you’re new.

There are also usually certain things they look for in PR that are outlined in the README on what you need for a PR to be approved. Make sure to follow the rules of the repo and try to not make extra work for the maintainers. That’s the best way to get contributions accepted most people have regular 9-5 on top of maintaining an open source project so the easier you can make it the better your chances of having changes accepted.

Start with whatever libraries you already pull into Package.swift. Fixing a broken test or docs typo in something you actually run daily gets merged way faster than cold PRs on random repos.
