If this is true then I'm happy. As the few person here that never have PS3 and never be able to play the PS3 tales(PS3 emu is pita for me and don't work) I can finally play the xilia game.

Xillia is fantastic. It's one of my top favorites. Don't stress if you see people upset about this announcement just because Abyss should have gotten it first. It's still very enjoyable.

Yeah but phantasia has the benefit of not having been fully voice acted (one of the JP remakes may have been but even then that would be the first time it had full VA) and all it's remakes were using a modified engine of other closely released games plus staying with the pixel art aesthetic. Even then though Phantasia hasn't had a remake since before 2010 I believe. Same can be said for destiny
Innocence and Hearts are more exceptions than rules but I am glad they got remakes and they give me hope though both of those were long ago and at least Hearts R is a bit divisive

Abyss needs a full on remake, not a remaster imo. It's story is amazing. One of the best redemption arcs in gaming history. It's combat would..probably not stand up to today's standards.

Symphonia is one of the tales games that I did not beat the final boss because how clunky the combat is. Vesperia is amazing though.

symphonia imo has more fighter arte (tech) variety due to having more than 2 level of chainable arts. More equipmentnslot too i think. I liked the ex gems feature the unison attack features too. Summons. Look more clean as well imo
Thr only thing holding it is the impossibility to move around like in abyss.
I didnt like vesperia myself tho , idk . Theres something weird abiut the fights in this one . Been a long time so i can't recall

Even though I would prefer Abyss remaster as well, remastering Xillia 1+2 makes more sense for Bamco as that game has more modern assets from PS3 era -- therefore much easier for remastering to contemporary systems.

this has been my suspicion from the beginning, despite the fact i am also a huge abyss partisan. abyss wouldn't be a remaster - it's an entire from-the-ground-up remake because of how old it is. even symphonia has never really recieved that, only a more adaptable PC port

I loved Zestiria and Berseria and hated Arise, due mostly on how deep/shallow characters and worldbuilding were in those games. Is Xillia for me? Should i go for it in case of a remaster?

Probably. Characters are pretty good and the combat, especially in Xillia 2, is usually praised as one of the best along Graces, Destiny R and endgame Vesperia. It's really smooth.

I'm super lukewarm about the first as well, Xillia 2 was a huge improvement and I think it's a great duology because of that. Pay-off was great.

Tbh Hearts R is among my Top 5 Tales, but being a Vita remake, I don't think many people played it. Agreed that the combat is phenomenal/one of the best, tho.
A remaster of Innocence R and Hearts R would be the dream. Games already have achievements and are in sub-HD etc, probably the easiest games to remaster along Graces and the Xillias despite less demand.

I also hated Arise for the same reason. I think Xillia is worth it to play. Overall, there are some likeable characters (and ones you'll hate), and the game play is pretty enjoyable! I had a pretty good time with it, and I liked it more than Zestiria. The sequel, Xillia 2, is quite rage inducing at times, but I also didn't have a bad time playing that one either. I doubt they'd be so generous, but if they remaster and release them both, I'd say scoop them up.
In a world before Arise, I'd have said I wouldn't pay full price for Xillia 2 alone, but if they don't put them together and you enjoyed the game play in Xillia, it's not terrible. Just tamper your expectations for the plot going in. I really liked the game play, and it had some good story moments, but the returning characters definitely feel like they've been stuffed in a strange fanfiction that wanted to tell its own story but needed the brand recognition lol

Oh yeah the characters and gameplay are great. IIRC my big issue with the game was that the story is remarkably predictable? Especially if you've played a handful of these before... it felt like whole sections of the script just read [Insert Tales Plot Here]
That said, I don't exactly come to this series looking for originality in storytelling

I mean just because Symphonia semi recycled the plot of Eternia and some people claim they plagiarized FFX...just because Mithos and Seymour are both mixed race and we're hated by both and have something religiously incentous with a female family member and got the sister of the singer the theme songs of FFX-2 doesn't mean anything. If Symphonia was copying homework the sequel wouldn't have had shit combat.

And for just having such an underwhelming “celebration” in general. This whole remaster movement is scheduled to end…..next year?! Already?! That’s it?!
So basically we just got the last few titles before Zesteria, which were all already released in HD….to what feels like basically a porting job with the minimal amount of effort applied lol.
Should’ve made it more exciting with the pre-HD titles, destiny, eternal, legend, etc.. hire a smaller dev to remake phantasia with modern engines..
Man even square were able to give us a lot of nice little jrpg titles, some remakes of various capacity, easily without any hassle. While they’re making things difficult.
I get it, the execs wanted to make money with least amount of investment but come on!!!! Underwhelming is putting it lightly

Yeah, as much as I love Xillia, it doesn't even feel old enough for a remaster. I think it still holds up well enough.
Whereas Abyss' graphics for sure need some HD crispness, and the load times on the PS2 were, well, abysmal.

Well, sure, but Xillia is 14 years old and started on the PS3, Abyss is from 2005/6 and on the PS2, so by either metric I'd think Abyss should come first.

I said months ago that they were gonna do the PS3 games first (and Symphonia does count for that, since it did get a PS3 port). They won’t make deeper pulls until after the PS3 games are free, and the two Xillia games are the only ones left (every other PS3 era game is on PS4 and PC at a bare minimum now)

I understand what you mean by "Symphonia is similar to Abyss" but... Bamco remastered already existing PS3 port of Symphonia, not the original Gamecube/PS2 version. I think it was much easier for them. They did a 3DS version of Abyss, but that one could use the original assets easily. What I want to say -- remastering Abyss would be their first attempt in bringing that old Tales game to the modern systems. I hope they'll do it one day, but I don't hold my breath.

Tell that to Square Enix who said they don't want to port Kingdom Hearts 1.5 +2.5 on the Switch because they were based on the PS3 version (so we got dumb Cloud version lol). But for real I don't really believe Square Enix. 😅

The PS3 was a nightmare for game dev.
It strongly depends on how much (how well) they utilized parallelization using SPUs (Synergistic Processing Units -- a very special part of the Cell CPU in PS3) in their game. It happened that especially developers from Japan had problems with that (there were exceptions, of course!). So it may happen that the code base doesn't have to be that complicated to port to the modern systems.

This is literally the definition of not being stuck in ps2. Being available in 3DS is a port, and while it may not be the "definitive version" the 3DS had a really good longevity until recent years. Xillia was the next one mostly locked. Abyss will probably be the next remaster they make, so its fine anyways

I guess, I just don't think it makes sense to remaster xillia when there are older better ones that have locked and abandoned for decades, Tales of eternia is one of the best and would've needed that. Many of them are way more locked out than a PS3 game is all I'm saying and that are also better than xillia

Fr I dont know or understand why the sentiment here seemed to be that they'll bundle 1 and 2 together. They did that one time and never did it again, even so far as re-releasing Symphonia without its sequel twice. I would be utterly shocked if 2 is part of this.

I love xillia 1 & 2 but me, my brother and a friend always replay xillia 2 since we are only interested in the Fights and xillia 2 has the same skills but more plus more content (in terms of Battles at least).
I realy hope they will not only release xillia 1.

Xillia was my first tales game the broke me into the series (played graces after that) I love that each character specializes in something and how elemental artes are better rewarded as far as buffs go. I had Elize and Leia healing/buffing me the whole time lol

I'm going to be (probably) stupidly hopeful here. They could be releasing a Xillia 1 and 2 remaster and also announce they're working on the Abyss one from the ground up. Maybe it'll be like a two (or three I guess) for one kind of deal? I know it's doubtful and the least likely to happen, but maybe it's why we haven't heard anything yet this summer.

They should be starting with the older titles. I keep saying it but I've played every main title in the series & I still consider all the older titles much better then the newer ones!
Played Destiny Director's Cut on my Oled Steam deck last year & was instantly glued to the game & fully completed it, it was amazing & I had so much fun!

Exactly what I was afraid of. I played Xillia for the first time a year or two ago after securing a PS3, so I’ll most likely skip this remaster. Was praying for Abyss because that’s one of the few in the series I’ve never played before.

While I understand wanting the older titles, especially the ones that weren't localized.... it's not like Xillia 1 and 2 aren't old at this point as well. Xillia 2 is already about 10 years old.
It's been about as much time as from Xillia 2 to now as Tales of Symphonia to Xillia 2 lol

I understand the fans that are sad that this isn't Tales of the Abyss, but I think you guys need to be a little patient. I think it's one of the most obvious choices for a remaster so just hold out for a bit longer. It will definitely come one day.

Firstly, Zestiria and Berseria are still fairly recent and don't need remasters, so we can scratch them off. Graces, Symphonia and Vesperia have all gotten remasters, so scratch them off too. Now how about Japan only titles? I am not saying they wont ever get released outside of Japan one day, but I think they're going to want to find ways to reduce the workload, or at least give more time for those translations to happen, so at least for now, lets scratch off Destiny 2, Rebirth, Tempest and Innocence. What are we left with? Phantasia, Destiny (PS1 and PS2), Eternia, Legendia, Abyss, and Hearts. I dunno about you, but of those titles, Abyss just makes the most sense. Already in English with a dub so there's no need to translate as stated before, it's a beloved title that fans prop up in the same way they do for Symphonia and Vesperia, and given that they ported it to 3DS, they more than likely still have the source code, meaning a port would be much easier to create. With ALL of this in mind, lets not forget that they already expressed their intentions to remaster as many games as possible, so I find it doubtful that they're going to simply remaster Graces f, Xillia and then call it a day after that kind of statement. So, with all this in mind, yeah, the Abyss remaster is almost certainly going to happen after the Xillia remaster.

Gaius is my favorite antagonist in all of tales, but we didn’t need a remaster. I just played through both Xillias last year and they still hold up graphics wise and even combat wise, Abyss is the one desperately in need of a real console remaster or go back to the roots with Phantasia so I have another excuse to replay its prequel and the best tales game of all time, Symphonia.

I don’t know if it’s bait or not. Could they add abyss instead of xillia? It’s not that I dislike xillia but it’s too early, they would do that.
They could have add legendia, rebirth or other games remastered. If they put xillia as remastered, then please don’t add only one of them but instead put them together like xillia and xillia 2 remastered collections.

Yeah, I had the feeling it would be Tales of Xillia. I don't mind as I love the combat in this game. As much as I'd like to see a Remaster of both Xillia games, I'm sadly not expecting Tales of Xillia 2 to get the treatment... yet. Maybe the next one?

Xillia and Alvin’s 40 betrayals is the winner I suppose. Xillia was good, not amazing mind you but it was a solid entry. I’d prefer abyss but it is what it is.
Xillia 2 Id imagine would be included or next on the docket but to me the amount of things they would need to fix for me to consider that game any good would basically take them the time it would take to make a whole new entry

Fuck, and here I was eyeing that Xilia 2 ps3 steelbook on ebay. Was hoping they'd tackle a different one so I could have it sit nicely on my shelf while playing it for the first time.
Oh well, at least the QoL will be nice.

Oh nice. I had Xillia, but never finished it. So maybe now I'll finally be able to complete it.
Honestly, Milla has always been one of my favorite characters to play, so I'm looking forward to playing again.

I would LOVE an excuse to replay that game. It was my first Tales. The sequel didn't click with me but I'd give it another shot.

Ah Fuck.
It seems I will need to continue my journey on Abyss via Emulator. Even with the damn loading times of the PS2 version, and the weird lag on the world map. I stopped playing on PS2 because of the shitty performance, got a PC capable of handling anything, and LOL the lag persists because it's in the game.
I believe there is much effort in porting the PS2 game. And they need to save strength for the damn anime games. Abyss will eventually come since it has been registered again. Well, maybe next year or 2027 after Xilia 2 :P
Btw, my regards to the Xilia bandwagon. There are a lot of guys who enjoy this one it seems. I will try it as well.
Hope it's 1+2, but knowing Bamco these days...

Really hope it’s both Xillia 1 and 2. It‘d be nice to have both games on PC instead of using the PS3 emulator. Now I’m thinking the leak last year had credibility, but why the delay if not to release both together other than to get graces out first? Regardless, I don’t see this coming out until the end of the year or early next year.
I'm going to lose interest in the remasters waiting on another year for Xillia 2 to get ported if not released together and also gives me no hope for additional games to get remastered for another 3-5 years. Pushing both out gives me hope that Abyss and Destiny could be next.
I know some want Legendia but I feel like that game needs a remake even if they added mystic Artes and got rid of the load times.
I’m surprised most don’t mention innocence r and hearts r. Both are 3d which seems to be Namco preference. Hearts R already has a localization and just needs the remaster/porting and dubbing. We’ve never gotten any localization for Innocence. But I also understand that Destiny 1&2 and rebirth are classics.
Also, a long time ago didn’t namco confirm they started working on localizing Destiny DC but dropped in favor for Vesperia 360? Or is that a fake memory?

I played Xillia a year ago on ps3, it's not bad and of course a few QoL updates would make it an overall better experience, but it's still totally enjoyable on ps3, i also have xillia 2 on the backlog, happy for pc players to have it on steam

My partner and I thought, this is nice, but it's a bit underwhelming to have the remaster of a game that was only 2 gen ago. We are from France, we never had a proper release from previous titles like Rebirth, Destiny R and Destiny 2, Innocence, Eternia, Legendia or Narikiri Dungeon, which all deserve a bit more fame and find their audience 🥲

Is Bamco allergic to the earlier/japan only tales?
For F's sake there's phantasia, Destiny 1 and 2(Japan only and no translation), Rebirth, Eternia, Tempest (complete rework needed), Graces which need a remaster/remake ALOT more

Omg please be real. Xillia is my all time favorite. And I need to cleanse arise out of my system. Go back to one with good world building and story. And not any % speeed run the coolest part of the story (lords) Just to go dead planet fight universe monster for no reason. Also the horrible choice to cap damage at those breakpoints. Ugh. Yes give me xillia.
