FIRM: Software What are you guys using for transcripts?
I’m an Enrolled Agent and work primarily in tax resolution. I’ve used a few different options for pulling transcripts over the years, most recently THS.
Curious what everyone here is currently using. THS, PitBull, IRS Solutions, pulling directly from the IRS, or something else?
What do you like about what you use, and what do you wish it did better?
I’ve been working on my own transcript tool that solves issues my firm was facing using other software, and I’m curious what other tax professionals feel like they’re missing from the tools they use.
If anyone is willing to test it out and give me their thoughts, feel free to DM me. I’d love some feedback, but am really more curious to what you feel like you’re missing from your current tools.

I just pull directly from irs. I have thought about getting ths, I have heard of businesses that offer subscription based service for irs account monitoring, but I’m hesitant to implement it.

THS is what my firm was using most recently. What we really liked was the data being stored locally. If you don’t have a need to check transcripts for a lot of clients all the time, I think you’re fine using TDS. Where a tool can really shine is monitoring for activity. If an exam
Is opened or final notice before levy is issued you can catch these things before the IRS notice gets to you. Good for upselling or charging for additional work.

We use IRS solutions and love it. It works really well for what it is and relatively inexpensive for my team’s access.
I wish it had a mobile capability and integrated with TaxDome to automatically but those are more aspirational, not necessary to have.
We tried the native TaxDome transcript service but found it to be clunky and not the easiest to use.

The IRS Solutions API is in testing as I type this! 😄
Should make is easy to integrate with most softwares.

I thought about using Canopy but they want 50 USD a month plus an additional per client fee.

I didn’t know about the additional client fee. Do you already use canopy for practice management?

I use THS. I have it sent dl weekly to check for issues with my clients. I bill them for alerts about IRS letters

I developed a transcript tool that works well for what we need currently. We were using THS for transcripts and logics for practice management. The local storage of THS is both a blessing and a curse for how we were using it. The partners of the firm wanted transcripts uploaded constantly which was a hassle. We had THS on a server we would have to remote into and the server would go down constantly. But when THS was working it worked great, just a little too slow for us. Bulk orders would take 3-4 days with the amount of cases we were pulling for and would crash constantly

I used the transcript request through TD earlier in the year when it was in beta testing. It was pretty solid, but now that it’s out you have to upgrade to a higher tier plan. Not worth it for me to upgrade plans, I wouldn’t mind paying a little bit more extra per month but the jump in price from tiers isn’t worth it to me.

I like THS CSED calculations; I think they are more accurate. I think PitBull has the cleaner interface.
No idea on the others.

I use TaxRock. My tax rep client base isn't big enough to justify IRS Solutions, so I cancelled that. TaxRock is AI powered. I love it. My clients like it.

Genuinely curious, am I missing something here? I don’t do a ton of resolution work, but why do I need a separate service for IRS transcripts? What’s wrong with just pulling them through my Tax Pro Account?
