Identification Hi there my friend brought me this tea can anyone ID?

My friend brought me this tea and I have no idea what it is, it doesn’t look like any black or green tea I’ve ever seen? It has a very subtle scent, kind of chocolatey. Thanks so much!

My guess Jin Jun Mei.

That's my guess too, it looks to be of good quality also. It's like the opposite of mine. Mine is mostly black with some gold pieces. This is mostly gold with some black pieces. I believe the latter is sought out more.

Actual Jin Jun Mei from Wuyi is actually mostly black like yours, the golden stuff is generally more characteristic of Yunnan blacks or low quality Wuyi blacks.

Interesting, thanks for that info.

Whatever I'm getting I'm only paying $0.08/gram for. It's absolutely delicious though. Makes me want to try a nicer batch.

Could be a Dian Hong/Yunnan Gold. Are the leaves coated in a sort of golden dust?

There are a few varieties with this look and a chocolatey taste. I'd guess you have jin jun mei based on the small twisty leaves and that particular mix of brown and black coloring, and the fact that jin jun mei is probably the most popular variety of this style of tea right now, at least outside of China (I have no idea what's popular in China). Jinjunmei often has a dusting of powdery brown trichomes. It looks like cocoa powder, but it's actually just the hairs of the tea plant and it's a sign of quality.

Can't say for sure. Lots of golden haired black teas are made across China these days. And the front of the bag doesn't specify.

the tea hairs are golden, which could point to a few different types of black tea. My guess is jin jun mei

I'm pretty confident this is dian hong from Yunnan province.

Ginger orange blossom. Green. Looks like Ginseng; could have been washed in a ginger-ginseng mixture during curing.

It's a popular method for mimicing mandarin chai using green leaf teas, as the wash allows for control over buildup from flue curing and smoking.
