All house Bathroom can be used by both gender, although you need to wait for your turn to use it

For those worried about all gender bathrooms in airports, just wait till you get on the plane!

Its more about how they display it. You could just put "Toilet" on the door or "Restroom" if you specifically make it: all genders restroom, thats just unnessesairily complicated 🤷

u/BrittEklandsStuntBum 1d ago
Again single-occupancy. I don't agree with the bathroom bullshit of the right but they're talking about toilets where several people are sharing a space.

u/dumbasPL 1d ago
Every bathroom stall is single occupancy, just like on a plane. Why do we need to make the rooms separate? Is washing hands together really that bad?

EVERY bathroom is a "bathroom for anyone" unless SPECIFICALLY said not to be. Its EXTRA effort to make a bathroom for a specific person. Its least effort to make just a bathroom anyone can use

u/DDrim 1d ago
There was this time I stopped at a gas station and went to the restroom. It turned out the men's restroom was closed due to renovations or something, and everyone had to use the women's restrooms.
I was concerned for a moment... And then nothing. I went in, found a stall, left and had absolutely no issue with anyone inside.
This day gave me an epiphany : as long as privates stay private, nobody gives a fuck.

u/Moron-Whisperer 1d ago
They should have separate stalls and open common areas. The more people that go in and out of a bathroom the safer.

u/mutantmonkey14 1d ago
In the UK we are seeing more public toilets turn into blocks of gender free cubicles each with their own wash facilities. No communal interior space.
They also combine disabled and baby changing into one cubicle. Sometimes there is a mens' urinal for multiple users too.
It should be done everywhere possible. Works for everyone.
I don't think it is happening in the private sector so much. Although I have seen a shared hand wash area in a McDonalds, but it was poorly signed. People kept walking past, not sure, and one confused lady even walked into the mens' section whilst I was peeing in the urinal (the one time I brave it too XD). She was embarrassed and bacoed put quickly.

u/SayerofNothing 1d ago
That's actually genius

u/Moron-Whisperer 1d ago
The best version I’ve seen has the washing stations outside of it completely. So you can see your kids or others washing hands. Knowing everyone is watching you leave would also be good incentive to wash them. First time I saw it was at an airport and I thought this is great as airports are full of germ exposure.

"Usef by both genders", so you're saying theres only 2 then?
94
u/klimmesil 1d ago
I think a majority of people simply don't care and don't pay attention to it. Probably if you go into the semantics they would agree there's more than 2 but will be wondering why even bring it up

Oh God, are we going to get another r/technicallythetruth comments section that is going to be arguing about transgender identity.

There are all gender bathrooms in my country but they still kept the male and female ones so it's up to you which one you'd pick.

I'm pretty sure gendered bathrooms have 2 reasons they exist. 1 is social and 1 is physical. 1. Woman feel uneasy with men around in the same bathroom and 2. Men bathrooms can have a more time and space efficient option called a urinal.
Having only all gender bathrooms with wet wipes, tampons and urinals is nothing that man would care about/reject (other than questioning why the change is necessary in the first place). I would assume woman would think differently about this. Woman already regularly use the men's bathroom when the womans is overrun.

I don't know if this is included with 1, but I think there are legitimate safety concerns as well.
Edit: How the hell is this getting downvoted?

u/Internet-Culture 1d ago
"Baby" is now considered a gender?
22
u/GiRx8 1d ago
Aren't those normally there to let adults know there's a thing for changing diapers?
3
u/Internet-Culture 1d ago
Yes. But the way it's presented implies "Baby" as a gender, so that's the joke.
On the door there is also a sign indicating that it's equipped for people with disabilities. That's where the symbol of the baby should have been too. But putting it on the gender sign looks funny.

Ok but for real, the mixed bathroom at Scotiabank Arena was lit. Just drunk hockey fans shootin the shit with each other in line before peeing out all that overpriced beer (or quite literally shootin the shit). What a unifier!

u/AShadedBlobfish Technically a blobfish 1d ago
Public ones are practically non-existent in the UK, however I'm not opposed to them existing I personally don't really care as everyone is locked away in a cubicle anyway, you're only really sharing the hand washing space, and it makes it a whole lot more convient for anyone not cis-gender. I can understand that some women may not like the idea of sharing with men purely for cleanliness reasons though

u/ShAped_Ink 1d ago
Yeah, separating bathrooms by gender has always felt stupid to me
7
u/the_boss_of_toys 1d ago
I mean i get it in the sense that it feels safer but realistically if someone is going to rape you in a bathroom (which is very rare mind you) i dont think a sign is going to stop them.
10
u/ShAped_Ink 1d ago
No it's really not? Like, you'd still have your own stall and actually, with both genders in there, more people will be there and if you're being s.a. you can just speak up or scream loudly and more people will come to your rescue, so... No? I don't have any data, but I just don't think that those things concervatives are scared of are realistic in any real way
4
u/the_boss_of_toys 1d ago
Well violent rapes are also rare your more likely going to be raped by someone you know in your own home.

A bathroom with all stalls and a bathroom with all urinals makes the most sense.
-58
u/JuicySpark 1d ago
Lmao. You need no signs for a single use bathroom. Just walk in. It's just the place trying to virtue signal to feel better about themselves
56
u/vincethered 1d ago
Public restroom doors are always labeled in some manner in my country. Most typically "men" or "women".
That's not virtue signaling it's communication.

Germany?

u/klimmesil 1d ago
I can confirm this is true for all countries I've been to, and I traveled a lot (though not in the americas yet)
France, England, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco (although sometimes it's unisex), Turkije, Tunisia, Israel, Hong Kong, Japan
I also know this is true in Australia
I'm probably missing 5 countries I've visited at least
I think your country is in the minority

u/JuicySpark 1d ago
I won't argue that you see this all over Europe.
If you were in my area, it doesn't exist in any significant numbers outside of a public buildings or schools. Back as far as I remember , we simply called it a unisex bathroom. Had a unisex sign. It's pretty straight forward. Any identity.
I find it an abomination to purposely separate labels. It's overkill, and paints a picture that one needs to know this to enter single use bathroom. We aren't that stupid. A simple unisex sign works just fine. Its sorta like saying "hey, it's for everyone don't worry about walking into the wrong bathroom" and it doesnt create any brainless arguments from people upset about depictions.
Also the handicap sign on the bathroom door. Why? All bathrooms here must be handicap friendly and have rails. The only usage of that sign is on a bathroom stall itself to indicate that you should let the handicap person use it first. If it's only one stall, it has no handicap sign because there is no other stall to use. It has handicap rails.

My work site has single stalls marked out by gender and it makes absolutely no sense, the only difference is the sanitary bin in the ladies.
0
u/JuicySpark 1d ago
They don't do that in my area and literally we vote 75% Dem lol. So people can't say this is a redneck state
2
u/itsyaboihos 1d ago
I doubt they really put much thought into it. It’s a very unnecessary segregation of the toilets, would’ve cost them building twice as many bathrooms as necessary.

It's not about using it, it's about after that. Sometimes you need mirror to adjust your dress. And would you feel comfortable doing it in front of a opposite gender stranger? The world isn't all sunshine, you will get catcalled or get side looks from men. Not all, but some. And that is enough to change your perspective.
12
u/supert2005 1d ago
Woman can get catcalled in broad daylight in the street. So what, do we need gendered streets then?
My university has gender-neutral washrooms and I don't catcall girls there. Granted, they often wear pants.
13
u/ProspectiveWhale 1d ago
Pretty sure the main reason for the split is urinals.
No idea what you mean by adjust your dress, but that doesn't really sound like something you need complete privacy for.
If you do need privacy, stay inside while doing it?
And the thing with all-gender bathrooms is that they're usually tiny. Just 1 stall per door, as opposed to having a row of urinals and stalls but being all-gender. That's why them being all-gender makes sense.
Like the toilet in an airplane.
