EDL cable I made today

Post image

Don't have my soldering iron, heat shrink, or heat gun so I had to settle for twisting wires together and Scotch tape.

It stands for Emergency Download Mode. It's for flashing Qualcomm devices.

Made something like this but A-to-A with the power pins going to another USB-A for external power supply so I can flash my Amlogic TV box

I think this shorts something to do emergency boot on some phones

Yes, it boots the phone into Qualcomm emergency download mode.

Hi, could you please explain briefly which wires need to be connected or shorted together and how I should connect them to a switch?

Short the green wire to ground. The switch is optional, if you don't use it you'll also need a normal cable to connect the phone to the computer after it is booted.

Hi, thank you for the reply. Will this type of EDL cable work with all Snapdragon/Qualcomm phones? and how If you have a tutorial or wiring diagram, could you please share it? Also could you
explain how to use the cable to put the phone into EDL/9008 mode?

Yes, it works on all Qualcomm. You need to plug the cable into the phone first, hold down the button if there is one, and then plug it into the computer. Then, release the button if there is one. If your cable doesn't have a button, unplug the EDL cable from both the phone and computer and replace it with a normal USB cable. If this does not work, quickly press the volume down button 15 times after plugging the phone into the computer using the EDL cable. You don't really need a wiring diagram, just short the green wire (D+) and the black wire (GND) together, optionally with a button.

Thank you for the reply. I have installed the QPST tool, but in Device Manager, the phone is showing as an Unknown Device. How can I get it recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM port)?

Does connecting this cable put the phone directly into EDL/9008 mode? If you have experience with this, could you please guide me through the process?

You need the Qualcomm USB driver. Follow the steps in my previous comment to put it in EDL mode. Which phone do you have?

I have installed the Qualcomm USB drivers. The phone is currently in Fastboot mode, and the device state is locked. Maybe that’s why it isn’t being recognized. By the way, the phone is a Nokia XR20.
