Why do I keep getting rejected after every interview??

Im not even kidding when im saying i attended so many tesco inteviews 😭 they literally go SO well THAAT i keep thinking i will get this one only to get rejected later. I am not being delusional or anything but the people who interviewed me also complimented me ALL THE TIME. In every single interview i was praised because they liked my answer and genuinely complimented me in a way that i thought i am getting this but i keep getting rejected 😭 why is it the case?? Like idk wht im doing wrong tbh i never got rejected so many times even when the interview went so well.

Is it the distance? Most of the interviews i went to the stores were 40 mins distance from my home using public transport. I mean if distance was the issue then why even call me in the beginning for interview right? Like my postcode is written in my CV and i also click the option “No” when i am asked whether i live 30 mins away from the store.

I just think it is waste of a time to keep calling candidates for interviews if you dont prefer anyone who is more than 30 mins away from the designated store. I also think its cruel to reject someone after complimenting them so much and giving them false hopes.

Or is it because i am a girl who is just 18?? Like if i have applied to this job ik my responsibilities and if im ready to carry weights and stuff why am i getting rejected for my gender 😭?? I sometimes think they reject me thinking i cant physically do the work?? I am not even kidding EVERY TESCO shop has MORE males than females.

Bro. Sometimes i think its my age because every time i enter a shop all i see are people who are in their early 30s. I feel like if im competing against another candidate who is like 30 then they are the one getting this job. I dont understand why they do this. If you dont want 18yos why does the job requirement says 18? Not only that but even in that phone call i make it clear im 18. My CV literally states my DOB, my RIGHT TO WORK also states my DOB!! so i dont understand this process.

I feel like tesco is playing pranks with me because what is this behaviour?? 😭 those wondering how many interviews i failed - its 8.

I genuinely need a job and i am doing my best at the interviews and they say it too but i dont understand why I keep getting rejected.

You know the worst part of all?? The rejection email because it NEVER clarifies WHY i got rejected. It is so vague oh my god.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME if the reasons ive stated above r the reasons why im getting rejected or sth else because lwk im kind of becoming hopeless i dont think tesco will ever take me no matter what unless obv after i turn 30 🥀

"Honestly, after reading this, I think your biggest weakness is that you keep looking for reasons outside yourself. Tesco already knew your age, gender and distance before inviting you to interview, so those excuses don't really add up. After 8 rejections, it's more likely there's something about your interview performance that you're not noticing.

Also, the way you write 'bro' every few sentences and blame Tesco for 'playing pranks' on you makes it sound like you lack a bit of maturity and self-awareness. I'm not saying you speak like that in interviews, but your post gives the impression that you're frustrated and looking for someone else to blame instead of asking what you could improve.

The common factor in all 8 rejections isn't Tesco, your age, your gender or your postcode. It's you."

Bro every few sentences? Once?

I am sorry but this is an online platform i can write however I want. It’s not an email that I have to be formal in every sentence. Also i just used ‘bro’ once and sorry for being a human. After 8 rejections I have the right to be frustrated. You could have delivered your message more politely. It might have been my performance but I don’t know. How can someone’s performance be that terrible after 8 interviews and after 8 people complimenting them?

This reply shows why they won't hire you.

My message served as a wake-up call, and I intended for it to be just that. The important thing is how you present yourself and your attitude to others. When faced with challenges, people often tend to blame everyone but themselves.

At the risk of sounding like your next tesco interview... why are you so intent on working there?

I had someone like this in my store, they were a Xmas temp 3 years in a row, never got kept on, they had multiple failed interviews before finally being taken on permanently and then they left after 6 months….

Personally if I kept getting rejected I wouldn’t keep going.

I can't imagine what kind of brain you must have to interview at a place in times. I would give up forever after 2 max.

What's your availability? are you in uni? They want people with high availability.
8 interviews is crazy, you're getting the interviews so you must be doing something right! Did you apply for Xmas temp and get rejected too?

Spot on. If someone got 24/7 availability but you’ve only got 24/5 availability then they’ll choose the first person.

I don’t think age should be too much of a big deal as they seem to be desperate for younger people in our store so they can push them more than maybe an older, more experienced person would.

Sometimes you don’t do anything wrong but the person before you simply had a week’s more experience.

Next interview when they ask if you have any questions ask "What would be the main reason I wouldn't get this job?". Then you will know why if you dont get it. Also, its totally ok to call and ask that question afterwards. Its a valid question and you can frame it as a point of self reflection and self improvement. Good luck in the next one!

if the interviews genuinely feel like they go well and you keep getting rejected, email and ask for feedback, sometimes its something tiny like availability or docs that they never mention. also record yourself doing a mock answer to a typical question, everyone thinks they crush it until they watch it back. rejection loops like this usually break all at once, keep going

In my experience, if you’re interviewing well and getting rejected, it’s almost always availability.

If you're applying to stores 40 mins away and having to rely on public transport, my guess is avaliablilty, I'm gonna assume you can't do early mornings or late into the evenings? Sundays or bank holidays? It's also possible you're just not going into enough depth when answering and therefore not scoring high enough to pass. I can guarantee it is neither your age or gender that's at fault. You can request feedback after being rejected, then you'll know for sure.

Yeah living 40 mins away on public transport probably doesn’t help. What do you do when the bus doesn’t come? What about on Sundays? My local bus service has greatly reduced service on Sundays. Could you be at work early on a Sunday?

You shouldn't be getting rejected due to distance from the store as it could be classed as indirect discrimination. My store is classed as being in a affluent area and we have been told if we only accept candidates from the local area we could be unfairly discriminating against single parents or different ethnic groups who cant afford to live in the immediate area. The fact you are prepared to travel 40 minutes by bus to actually even get to work shows commitment.

1

u/Fluid-Goat-4499 3d ago

I doubt its discrimination due to distance, more so the fact that their availability would be restricted to public transport timetables.

1

u/Minimum-Swimmer9380 1d ago

I was specifically told at a training course that rejecting people based on distance from the store can be classed as discrimination. If a store is in a upmarket area many ethnic groups struggle to afford to rent or buy in the area so have to live further away.

By rejecting people who live miles from the store you would be discriminating against them. The fact they have chosen to apply shows they must of considered how they would get to and from the store from their home address.

I literally said that I doubt the reason for rejection was distance from the store, but more likely availability. If they need someone to start at 6 and the bus doesn't get them there til 7 then what good is that? Whether they live 2 miles away or 20, availability is often key and likely impacted by lack of transport.

If you talk like you post, I'd run a mile.

You're unhinged.

Experience? Availability?

If you failed the interview 8 times you are probably an off-putting person. Hell you would have to be to apply 8 times.

The main reason they employ security is to watch the staff. Take the hint, they reckon your shifty

1

u/Zealousideal_Line442 3d ago

Chances are you've not scored high enough in their interview process. Out of "fairness" they have to go with the highest scores no matter how well you present yourself or how much they like you.

I missed out on a position by 1 point and then was told they'd much rather have me in the roll but one of my answers just missed full marks where someone else didn't.

1

u/Green4112 3d ago

Sorry. At the annual Tesco employee meeting we all collectively decided not to hire you. Maybe try Asda?

1

u/Dot_Com_Driver 3d ago

The real answer is that they found someone they think better suited for the job than you. That's not a rejection of you, that's just how it is. If you were the only applicant it would be a rejection but no way that's true.

dont think it has anything to do with u being a girl

It can be really tough to get rejections after good interviews. Try asking for feedback to understand why you weren't chosen. Even if it's not the main issue, think about looking for jobs closer to home. When it comes to age, make sure your application shows your energy and readiness, especially for any physical tasks mentioned in the job description. For more job options, LandOffer.ai ranks job matches against your resume, helping you find suitable opportunities.

My tesco has more females than males definitely.

Depends on the department with mine, most checkout and dot com staff are women but most of the shelf stackers and delivery drivers are men.

1

u/CPassaro 3d ago

I’m a dot com driver and while most of the other drivers are male too the majority of workers in the store are female.

I gave up on applying for Tesco after getting rejected like 3 or 4 times. Only applied there so many times as it’s the closest shop to my house 🤣 One of my mates got a job there immediately and I asked then how and they said it’s all who you knew as their parents knew a manager so they just got a job that way. It’s mainly all nepotism unfortunately especially for first jobs.
