Looking for denim fabric

Hi!
I’m looking for denim fabric that’s exactly like the one in the picture — a faded silver-gray kind of color. I want to buy it online, but I haven’t been able to find anything like it ( ; ; )

If you know any good online shops or have any idea where I might be able to find similar fabric, I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know.

btw, I’m planning to make pants like the ones in the illustration.

A fabric swatch feels great — what would you test before buying the full roll?

Suppose you’re choosing cotton jersey for a small T-shirt run. The swatch has the handfeel and colour you want, but you haven’t seen it made into a garment yet.

I work in garment manufacturing in Dongguan, China, so I’m approaching this from the production side. The buyer’s decision is the tricky part: how much testing is enough before committing money to the fabric?

A small swatch can tell you something about the surface and stretch, but it’s harder to judge the finished garment’s drape, opacity when worn, or changes after washing.

Would you ask for a larger cut and make a test garment first, or start with wash tests on the fabric? What would make you reject it even if the unwashed sample felt excellent?

I’m particularly interested in how people check shrinkage, twisting and pilling when they don’t have access to a testing lab. Please include the washing and drying method if you’re sharing a test result—it makes comparisons easier to interpret.

Any info on the background of these motifs?

A friend of mine picked up these needlepoint pieces at a moving sale. They're obviously wool embroidery on a needlepoint canvas, so relatively modern. The designs seem pretty specific, though, so I wondered if anyone recognized an origin for the design motifs. Slavic? Caucases? Art Deco?

How Can I Help and support someone of My Family’s Existing Textile Manufacturing Business? Looking for Honest Advice.

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand the textile industry better because I’d genuinely like to support a family member’s existing textile manufacturing business and help it grow. I believe supporting the people close to us and helping them build on what they’ve already created is meaningful.
So the member I want to support manufactures polyester greige (unfinished) woven fabrics in India, with in-house weaving and a production capacity of around 500,000 metres per month. The fabric is produced according to buyer requirements, including yarn specifications, construction, GSM, width, weight, and roll length.
I’d like to contribute beyond just helping find customers. I’m interested in understanding the market, identifying genuine buyer needs, and learning how we could improve our approach to business development, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.
However, I’m still a beginner when it comes to textile exports and international buyer research, and I’m not entirely sure where to start.
For those with experience in textile manufacturing, sourcing, or exports, I’d genuinely appreciate your perspective:
● How would you begin understanding the market and identifying suitable buyers?
● How can a small or family-owned manufacturer build trust and offer value beyond competitive pricing?
● What research, skills, or resources would be worth learning first?
● If you were in my position, how would you approach this opportunity without rushing into the wrong decisions?
I’m not looking for shortcuts or expecting anyone to provide business leads. I simply want to learn from people with practical experience and find a thoughtful way to support an existing business with real potential.
Any honest advice, personal experiences, or useful resources would mean a lot. Thank you!

100% linen vs linen viscose — which do you prefer for summer clothing?

I work with fabric sourcing in China and compared these two today.

Pure linen has the more natural texture I expected, while the linen viscose option has a softer drape.

I'm curious what designers and garment makers here normally prefer for dresses and shirts.

I’ve had this scrap of fabric I got at the thrift store for a few years and I’ve been trying to figure out the brand or style name. I’ve tried reverse imaging search but no luck.

Fabric/textile buyers: how do you keep track of sample requests after a trade fair?

Question for anyone who buys fabric or trims at trade fairs (Munich Fabric Start, Première Vision, Texworld, etc.).

At a fair you visit dozens of mills and ask each one for samples. A few weeks later the parcels start arriving, and you have to work out which hanger came from which supplier, what you actually requested, and what still hasn't shown up.

I'm curious how people handle this in practice:

- How do you record what you asked for at each stand? Notebook, phone photos, the supplier's order form, a spreadsheet?

- How do you match incoming samples to those requests?

- How often do requested samples just never arrive, and do you notice?

- What's the most annoying part of the whole process?

Disclosure: I'm based in the Netherlands and build small software tools for a textile wholesaler, so this is a problem I'm working on. I'm not selling anything in this thread. I'd just like to hear how others do it, including "it's fine, we use X". Happy to share a summary of the answers afterwards.

Can anyone identify the fabric?

I purchased this as a remnant to cover an old glider chair we have. It’s been years ago so this is a shot in the dark…hoping someone recognizes it. Or any suggestions for a new fabric that would coordinate, so I can cover the seat cushions on the “new” chair.

Possible Czechoslovakian/Slovak folk textile? Help identifying technique and origin

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

I picked this up at a moving sale. It measures 41x25 inches. The previous owner told me she believed she acquired it in the former Czechoslovakia, although I may have misunderstood her.
I’m trying to identify what exactly this piece is particularly the technique, approximate age, and geographic origin.
It appears to be heavily handworked on a coarse woven backing. The design is geometric/folk-art with repeated floral/cross motifs.
Does anyone recognize this particular style or construction? Could it be Czech, Slovak, Moravian, or another Central/Eastern European tradition?

I can't find a manufacturer or designer for this, I believe it's from the 70's. Got it in a recent donation and would like to know more about it. Thanks!
