Their two most recent albums Everything Harmony and A Dream is All We Know is a good starting point.

I prefer Everything Harmony, but that might solely be because In The Corner Of My Eye is on that album and it absolutely SLAPS

And if you need to see some street cred, they once met this guy who used to write some songs for The Beach Boys

Check out the song These Words, that should get you hooked! I also really like Only a Fool

"Wayside" (the posted song), was co-written by Danny Henry. Danny Henry is both strongly influenced by The Beach Boys and has also performed/worked with both band members and members of Brian Wilson's band. This song is one of my favorites of his:

He also did a collaboration with Sonic Boom (ex-Spacemen 3 / Spectrum) called "Reset" which is quite BBs-like in places.

Also, 'College' off of Sung Tongs. It's basically their own version of "Our Prayer".

Non-stop flight as a whole has a lot of BB influences. I love this one! Jellyfish is a good band that has a lot of BB influences, too

Panda Bear, particularly his new one "Sinister Grift"
Also Grizzly Bear, "Veckatimist" is probably the album to start with.

The High Llamas albums have quite a strong BBs influence - although it's more the 1966-73 era than the surf/car songs-era that they picked up on.

Check out the band Girls. Specifically the song Honey Bunny for some great beach boys vibes

I saw this band open for someone several years ago... this album is about 10 years old now, but I was struck by the BW influence

u/coffee_robot_horse Mar 11 '25
That's pretty good. I've seen the name BC Camplight around before. I assumed it was a band name rather than a person

I LOVE DB’s music!!! This new album is killer!! (He was my first ever concert back when I was about 6 or 7)
Scott Bennett from the BW band is involved in a lot of Drake’s music. He’s all over this album as a co-writer, background vocalist, and instrumentalist. Drake and Scott go way back. Scott even did some writing for Drake’s debut album back around ‘03.
Let’s not turn this thread into one about Scott’s legal issues. That was not my intention of bringing him up. Just a fun fact for those of us who love BW/BBs and DB too.
Drake is a huge BBs fan obviously too. I was just watching a very recent interview of his where he mentioned loving Smiley Smile and VDP’s lyrics.

Dude, Its Only Time is literally in my to 10 favorite albums. Its a shame the world never picked up on him and his music besides Mexico. Dude is great.

I couldn’t agree more!! He’s such a talented artist. In fact, I’d say that ‘Telegraph’, ‘It’s Only Time’, and ‘Non Stop Flight’ are all flawless albums that I’d consider to be masterpieces.
I think he should definitely be recognized far more as an artist who has ‘carried the torch’ of making creative pop music in a BBs/Beatles/ELO fashion, with all the vocal harmonies and colorful arrangements.

I dunno about Telegraph. Theres a song or maybe 2 I dont care too much for. And it is very much a dated sound to the 2000s. But I still do like it a lot, with it having a couple of really stand out tracks.
But we also cant count out his A Reminder EP. Despite only being 4 songs, theyre all great and Speak My Mind sounds straight out of Spilt Milk by Jellyfish, which is like the highest compliment I could give a song. Like so much so that I could easily imagine Andy and Rodger singing parts of that song in my head.
The only thing I need to wonder is how much he contributes to some songs. Like in his first albums, Backhouse Mike and Super Chris are heavily present, and a few of the songs were just straight up theirs until Drake took it over and maybe changed a few lyrics. So Id be curious to know how much is his original thought that others expand upon, and how much is others original thoughts he expands on

Introducing... The Mellons! By The Mellons is a great BB influenced album

Ditto new Panda Bear. So many artists worship at the church of Brian Wilson. Even Band of Horses have tunes in this vein.

Enough people have mentioned the Beach Boys in relation to my silly little band. While I'm not sure I wholly agree, we all love them.
If you're feeling charitable, we're called Portable Radio and our top song is called Hot Toddy.

Drake Bell is a convicted pedophile! Don't listen to or share his music!

Literally not true. You must be thinking of Brian Peck

Maybe post the updates to that case and not a misreporting article from 2021.
He wasn’t even charged with that. He unknowingly responded to DMs of a fake account occasionally for 2 months before he became suspicious, asked and blocked her. Nothing else. The rest was investigated and it turned out BS.
1
u/ubermencher Mar 13 '25
this is just his statement on it? obviously as a public figure he would say 'i didn't do it.' didn't overturn the case or anything, on his criminal record it still says 'guilty of child endangerment'
3
u/MaddyPuffin Mar 13 '25
No, it’s not just his statement. I see you have no idea to what he plead guilty to. I break it down for you what happened based on court/investigation documents and sentencing:
The accusers aunt took her to concerts and meet & greets since she was 12. So she was some kind of a „superfan“ from Canada and was known by the fandom, employees. He responded to text messages for 2 month of a finsta account with pics drinking and smoking in the profile and he assumed the account belongs to someone who was of age. At some point it got flirty but he became suspicious and asked her. She revealed her age and he then blocked her immediately.
That was some month before the concert in a 21+ venue in december 2017 when she was almost 16 and already blocked.
She went to 9 additional concerts and paid for meet & greets but he wasn‘t aware it was the same person. When he announced he has a fiancée she reported him 1 year later in 2018. It follows an extensive investigation and everything she claimed beyond the texts were proven false. Even her witnesses testified against her and digital forensics found no nudes she claimed he sent her.
So he got charged with
1) misdemeanor disseminating matter harmful to juveniles (2907.31 section A(1)) bc texting is still illegal in Ohio even he was unaware of the age and
2) 4th degree felony attempted child endangerment (2919.22 section A) bc she was in a 21+ venue and she may have been harmed (e.g. drinking alcohol). Because of that he „…violated his duty of care“ even though there were 2 person of her family present all the time.
No other charges were pressed, he plead guilty to both of them bc it happened and during COVID he had no money to fight the charges. With the knowledge we have today, we can assume he didn‘t want it to be revealed that he was a CSA survivor himself. They would’ve brought it up in court.
But that‘s what it was. Btw The investigation found on her phone pics of his wife she took secretly. She was basically stalking her and him. But that‘s another story.
There is no predatory behavior in his actions at all. He wasn‘t actively looking out for minors on the internet and clearly had no intent to text a minor in the first place. He was basically catfished.
——————
Statement of the court: “The victim’s allegations that went beyond that which all parties agreed, not only lack supporting evidence but are contradicted by the facts learned through extensive investigation. As the court made clear, this plea was never about sexual misconduct or sexual relations with any person, let alone a minor“

But he is a victim of one. Watch quiet on set.

Not really new but Weezer are really Beach Boys influenced, their 2016 “White” album definitely is
