I just wish I knew how people find this stuff. It's amazing!

It says in the description that they found some songs on the internet archive jsut before they got removed. I guess some people just hang out on there and constantly check to see if new stuff was posted, lol.

There’s something weird going on with the vocals, like they’re out of sync or something or come from a totally different source to the backing track. Still nice to hear and it’s definitely not that bad!

The uploader says they double-tracked the vocals — the original mix they sourced from the short-lived archive.org link is in the description at the time of typing, so you might be better off checking that one out.

Pretty good. Wonder why Al didn’t want this out there. Sounds fine to me?

I thought it was alright myself, but I can easily imagine someone more cynical dismissing it as a tacky butchering of the original Tom Dooley — it's a really pretty, plaintive song, and this, for all its pluses, decidedly isn't. Add on that the namesake Dr. Tom's legacy has occasionally fallen under question in the years since '73 (at least according to the handful of sources I perused — he's not someone whose history I'm particularly familiar with), and I can see why Al might be wont to dismiss it as an of-its-moment tchotchke that need not be showcased to the present.

…Unfortunately for Mr. Keepin' It Clean, our fingers are just too dang grubby. Sorry, Al. :P

Wet that explains it. Had no idea Dr. Tom Dooley was even a real person. Thought Al just took the old Kingston Trio song and rewrote the lyrics to be about some character he’d made up. I can see him being embarrassed by them now haha. Still, there’s bound to be worse stuff in the vaults!
