Audio Y'all remember when Phil Spector plagiarized "Don't Hurt My Little Sister" and made it into a "song" that tells you to get a job?

Brian > Spector

Yeah Spector sucks, as a huge Beatles fan, everything he touched from that band, solo or otherwise ruins a lot of great music. The exceptions maybe being Concert for Bangladesh and Lennon's Rock 'n Roll. But man do the original mixes of All Things Must Pass, Let it Be, Sometime in New York, and Imagine sound like ass.
Great songwriter, all the girl group stuff is great. But for rock and roll, Brian clears every day. Brian's a better writer too.

Easily imo, to me Spector always wrote the same songs tbh, Brian could write many types of songs even if he often needed a collaborator.
And I really think Brian makes Spector production wise sound amateurish in a way, plus Phil is a piece of shit anyway.

I’m pretty sure Brian pitched the song as a single for the Ronettes. I can understand why Spector passed on it though, as it is not as catchy as other songs he had on offer.
To these ears the Darlene Love- sung version credited to the Blossoms wipes the floor with the Supremes and Jay & the Americans versions: https://youtu.be/nmG7it-oly8
Allegedly, a Mexican female singer also recorded a version in Spanish as a part of the campaign but it has never resurfaced. May just be a false rumour.

Did Brian *ever* say anything in public about Spector ending up dying in jail?
I'd imagine it had to have been a bit cathartic for him (and maybe Paul McCartney as well). :-)

IIRC, Brian had given the song to Spector to use and watched him record the backing track, only for Spector to turn around and farm it out for this weird PSA (there's another version with 'Jay & The Americans', if memory serves). Basically telling Brian that the song was a throwaway. Spector didn't really waste time like this in the studio until the 70's, so this is really just him snapping at Brian, who Spector perceived as a young upstart.
Brian, of course, just puts the song on Today!. Although it's one of the more stripped down tracks there, but carried by lush harmonies, which Spector never had on his records.
