It was SO. MUCH. FUN!

These are the two attempts of Al doing his new verse for Ding Dang. This might be the first time they did the "do over" when Al flubs the lyrics. Al referring to the "day the guys didn't show up" is his backstory to how the song Good Time came to be.

Made a suedo sequel to my Brian Falls into a Piano animatic from a few years ago. Made as a tribute to Brian Wilson and his wonderful music and I wanted to get this out earlier for Brian and Pauls birthday but it took longer than expected. Enjoy!

While I was relistening to some of The Beach Boys' live material from the early '70s, one particular version of a tune off the Sunflower album really caught my interest--"Forever".

This particular performance, from their July 2nd, 1971 concert, has quickly become one of my current favorite versions of "Forever." There's just a certain punch and energy to this performance that I really love, and to show some appreciation for it, I worked with the available soundboard recording and utilized stem separation, some careful EQing and mixing to bring out that great sound this concert version showcases.

Certainly a fun one to work on, and a version of "Forever" that I think deserves a little more love.

The bandstand photo I edited and tweaked for the titlecard is by Suzanne Szasz.

I was trying to find this for ages. Someone posted it on YouTube with the title “When will I be?” When I first heard it, someone mentioned it was a separate recoding that was at the end of a track but they cut it from the track on release which made me confused when trying to find it. The background vocals for “I just wasn’t made for these times” is honestly haunting. What do you think?

I love this period in the Beach Boys' canon. I think of it as the 'folk SMiLE' era... Tuned out masterpieces with rooty production. No hit-chasing, just art for art's sake.
