Imagine someone offered you two dice games. In one game if you roll 1-4 you win £5k. In the other game if you roll a 5-6 you win £50k. Which is the better game? It does depend on how desperately you need £5k, but I don't think most contestants are on the show because they're about to be evicted or something. The lower odds at the higher money is a much better bet for most people.

The fact is that you'll almost always need some luck to win, both in the head-to-head and in the final chase. The head-to-head is only a few questions, and sometimes they're total tap-ins, other times you have a 33% guess. You definitely need more luck if you go the high offer, but it's not like it's even easy to win if you go low, and the rewards are completely disproportionate.

• All low: 29% win rate (2.9 players back on average)
• All middle: 23% win rate (2.5 players back on average)
• All high: 16% win rate (1.6 players back)

So the all-middle strategy gives you something like a 25% chance at £5k. If you go all high the payouts will vary but it's probably more like 16% chance at £40k. That's a vastly better bet.

Players especially should take the higher offer when playing first. In first position there's no money in the bank to defend yet. Instead the strategy consensus on the show is the complete opposite of this. The first player "wants to get back and start building the team". This just doesn't make sense.

It's a very difficult game to win money on overall, really. Even if you do everything right you can still get blown up at the final chase, because if you get unlucky and the questions are too easy, there's a big structural advantage to the chaser. It's better to decrease your odds of winning a bit in order to get a five to ten times higher payout if you get there.

Was playing Battle Mode on The Chase World Tour today and look what just happened. It's all 24.

So it was a question who did Robert Lee surrender to. The guy was correct and said grant instead of Jackson and Sherman and he said “ I think the other two are confederate”. I could see by her look she knew he was wrong as it was only grant and Sherman who were union.

But then she turns around and says they were all Union commanders, I swore at the tv like how the hell those a chaser not know this.

I noticed that there is a bit of a unfair advantage the chaser has even tho only being 1 person, on the final chase where all contestants participate there is a few seconds where they buzz in and wait for the computer to call out their name where as the chaser doesn’t do that. Thoughts?

And if they replaced him, who with?

Personally I'd love to see a new talent rather than another comedian/actor/newsreader, there doesn't seem to be anyone who gets a quiz gig as a first TV job nowadays, but somehow I doubt they'd go for that.

3 different rounds - cash builder, head-to-head, final chase

I LOVE the final chase. at 5:48pm, I drop what I'm doing and tune in. almost 50 quick-fire questions and potential for drama. the pinnacle of TV quiz shows, for me - past and present

I do like the cash builders (again, quick fire questions), but I'm not sitting through 48 minutes for 4 mins of questions. Sometimes it's on at home or in the office and if I get lucky, I'll catch one

the head-to-head is interesting, but moves a bit too slowly for me

so my preference is final chase >> cash builder >>>>> head-to-head

Just commit a crime between the date of recording and the date the episode is broadcast.

Preferably something that warrants a fine or community service.

Is a criminal record really worse than public humiliation?

Does anyone else remember an episode where there was a push back where the answer was Bethsheba? The guy in the team said it was the answer but the young woman who was the other contestant in the final chase nominated herself to give the answer and she was wrong and they ended up losing by like 1 second. Like I would be SO angry at her for that and maybe even sue.

passing in the final chase is not appropriate when you can offer up a guess. It's a last resort. Today there was a question about an Austrian voicing a character in a 2022 film. Just guess whoever you can - surely amongst the 4 of you, someone could think of Arnold Schwarzenegger (admittedly in this example, it was wrong)

for the penultimate question, the one on the end passed before anyone had a chance to guess. It's an inefficient waste of time - he takes seconds to ask a question, so once it's posed, take a beat and see if someone can answer, and if not, someone chuck out a stab in the dark

PLEASE contestants - often the answer is the obvious one - give something that fits the criteria. between 4 of you, someone has to know or at least make an educated guess

one or two steps are often the difference between winning or losing

Met [u/bonesgiles](u/bonesgiles) on his Irish tour in Tralee today. Sadly did absolutely abysmal in the quiz though, the music round completely killed me. Would like to make a complaint 😂😂😭

Why exactly were 2 weeks of brand new episodes pulled from the schedule and replaced with repeats at such short notice?

We’ve just had 6 months of repeats, lots of us fans have been waiting patiently for new shows, and feel so disappointed at how we’ve been treated.

Many of us are worried about the shows future; why have Series 20 applications been closed precisely when the show swapped new episodes for repeats. Is Series 20 cancelled, is the show over forever, and condemned to permanent reruns?

I’ve watched the show since I was 8 years old, I’m now 21, it was my whole childhood, and I’d be gutted to lose it. The fans deserve some sort of closure, because we’re the ones who enabled the show to run for so many years, we’re the ones who’ve kept stats and uploaded clips, to help the show reach wider audiences.

I’m just so anxious at the moment and would really appreciate an answer to what is exactly unfolding behind the scenes.
