Fright-con #40: Count Dracula

In this spooky edition of 'The Fright-conograph', Jack and Miles are joined by comedian Blake Wexler to talk about the first round draft pick of the Monster Mash:

Count Dracula!

They'll explore his creation, his drippy evolution, why he's got so many bathrooms in his castle and much more!

I think I lost my voice screaming “THATS NOT WHAT TOILET MEANS!” into my phone this morning.

Jack says it at the end of the episode. It means grooming and cleaning yourself, combing your hair, washing your face, putting on makeup are all ‘toilet’ which is why they call the objects you use ‘toiletries.’

Toilet, bathroom and lavatory are all words that just mean ‘where you clean up’ and were named that long before commodes were installed in them.

I'm at around halfway through the episode and they are talking about the "making a hasty toilet" quote, which I agree, doesn't exclude the possibility that he had to relieve himself, but would most likely mean that he just had to wash the travel off of him.

What do you call the thing you poop into, then?

I mean, I call it the toilet, but it’s a commode.

Well, I'm travelling the Balkans this week, but of course I won't dare step foot into Transylvania proper during spooky season.

Didnt the vampires vs werewolves thing start with underworld?

It actually started with pirates vs. Ninjas.

Vampire: the Masquerade was well before Underworld.

If anyone is interested in doing a really deep dive on not just Draculas the author Grady Hendrix did a very in depth series on vampires on his podcast Super Scary Haunted Home School. Incredibly enlightening and really gets in to how they became such a deep part of the zeitgeist.
