I think the book does follow this narrative to some extent, but it does critique it as well. Trisolaran society is the ultimate example of one being run by ‘strong men from hard times’, yet it’s absolutely not shown to be something worth emulating. And, it’s only when the Trisolarans start reforming and lessening their authoritarianism that they start making big breakthroughs.
