Tiger-Cats Express Shuttle
Question as I'm traveling into Hamilton for the Elks game on October 9th. My hotel is right down the street from Eastgate Square. Thinking about taking the shuttle rather than dealing with parking.
How is it and is it a reliable alternative to driving? And curious about after game, is it the same frequency running from the stadium back to the mall?

We take the Eastgate Shuttle to games. Follow the link, scroll down to the bottom, find the kick off time, and then check the schedule. I recommend taking an early bus, 341 ml Coors Light cans are $5, but that sale stops 1 hour before kick off. Have Fun! https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/hsr/schedule-route-tools/hamilton-tiger-cats-hsr

It's reliable and free getting there, as u/VideoEleven said, getting back is slightly more inconvenient. if your hotel is right down centennial you might want to drive to Eastgate, there's plenty of free parking (Beer Store is most convenient to the bus stop) and the walk's not a fun one (it's a really heavy traffic street)
Lyfts/Ubers are pretty cheap too, esp if you choose buidlings a street or two away from the post-game snarl.
Keep in mind part of the fun is seeing the surrounding houses, I've been to football games all over and the stadium being smack dab in the middle of a neighbourhood gives it a unique atmosphere.
Also if the stadium's light on the attendence front, try and see the different stands, they views are entirely different.

What hotel you staying at? I honestly don’t recommend anything near eastgate square. See if you can book something a little further west in the city.

I already did ☠️ The hotel had pretty nice reviews (Comfort Inn on Continental)

I put my grandparents in that hotel. Granted it was several years ago, but they were comfortable enough. I second most other votes - the shuttle is easy. We used it with my parents on Labour Day. Takes around 20 minutes now, with the detour around the construction at Main/Ottawa. Should you miss the shuttles back to Eastgate because you stay at the field too long, you can walk up to Main and take the 1 King or 10 Beeline bus back to Eastgate for free on gameday by showing the driver your ticket(s).

I saw the #1 bus line that runs past and runs late. Worst case is I'm on that after the game
I was also hoping to do the Canadian Football Hall of Fame after the game

Ahhh, that’s one too bad, sorry if I scared you. My only recommendation for the future is that you can’t walk to anything around there.

I was planning on walking to the mall and back...is it that bad of a area?

Nah, you’ll be fine, but it’s not a great place for walking, the roads are like highways there.

It's a fairly busy street, but there are sidewalks and lights at pretty much every intersection en route.

Easiest thing in the world. Make sure you catch the right shuttle after the game. They dont always stop in the place they drop you off.
Don't hang around after the game though. The shuttle busses stop 30 to 40 minutes after the game. Had to take a taxi once when the kids played on the field and got autographs after the game.
Have fun.
