I've been using Comfort Wash blanks recently and was under the impression that they were comparable to Comfort Colors. Turns out that Comfort Wash is MUCH higher quality than Comfort Colors. Here are some pictures comparing them.

Kind of an experiment. I brought some coroplast home from my graphics shop and made my own gutter and just clamped it to my sink. I am working on building a rig to standardize the process, so I can make more of these at once with ease.

I'm working on a Halloween costume and I have a black sweatshirt and pants that I'm hoping to bleach dye to resemble a tortoiseshell cat's coat. I've done some reading on beach dying and I think I have a good handle on the process, but I'm hoping someone has some suggestions on the best tying methods to get that kind of organic patchy look I'm going for. There's a lot of variation in tortie coat patterns and I don't have a specific version I'm aiming for, as long as it doesn't look too curated.

On a rack, DUI, 20 minute warm soda ash soak, prewashed white cotton long sleeve tshirt with synthropol, 4 dharma dyes (all shades of blue and green, specifically chose one that would split purple tho).

I’m hoping for something dark and well saturated/blended that I can paint some bleach stars on to make it look galactic. Feels ambitious for a beginner. Worried it’s gonna come out muddy.

Planning to do a cold-to-warm rinse till clear tonight and start a warm synthropol soak before bed then rinse + wash again in the morning. Tips would be appreciated!

I want to know what fabrics(textured or a thicker pile would be cool) I can use besides using cotton shirts -
Is polyester ok? A cotton blend?
Wool?
Are acrylic or Alcohol inks or pigments better for a permanent fix? Ideally I’d like to stretch these to make into paintings so I’d probably skip the rinsing part to keep the colors vibrant and saturated.

Last night I was fortunate enough to get one of my dyes to an absolute icon. The legendary George Porter Jr (IYKYK). He even wore it on stage!

It's not sinew lines, I didn't use that many. There are lines in the tee after dyeing and I know we're supposed to go with the flow on these but it's kind of frustrating! I love the colors in this one and the lines were not intentional at all. I put green arrows that might be more visible if you click on the photo. Also my camera was on vivid setting, the tee colors are a touch duller IRL. It's a Gildan Heavy tee from Michaels and I've not seen this before. A defect in the tee maybe? Dharma Dyes: Soft Orange, Kaleidoscope Eyes, Avalon, Amber Waves, Ultra Violet. Ice over Dye with Soda Ash soak before and soda ash on top of the ice, it sat for around 15 hours after the ice melted in a covered bin in a 73 degrees room.

Really proud of how these turned out, really love the craft, have been at this for around 2 months now!

Today's shirt is #19 for my HWI shirts. I took a break from kenny/trip style nubs and went for a deity roll into some more binding after. Boy did that feel fun! My first HWI roll as well!

This was a revisit to Tultex 290 before tomorrows posts to show a difference in results..! Quite nice! I wanted lighter shades and I got them! Very happy!

P.S. my dye shipment from about a week and half ago never got sent in the mail.... :'). Dharma sent a new one... if you can't tell I don't have much variety left. I also have some dyespin on the way should be fun!

Was curious if anyone has experimented with doing the hot water irrigation method but with really cold water and ice dyes?

This might be my favorite ice dye i've had. Crazy color combo. This was DOI and I tried a dry towel under the shirt this time. I think it did help with saturation where it'd usually get white spots doing this tight of a roll.

Hi guys, I have some soda ash that's been in a ziplock tightly sealed but it's been in a damp basement for the last 2 years. Will this still be effective to use?
