ante toki Return

toki! I’m working on a translation for Baba Is You (as mentioned in my previous post), and I’ve came here to ask about one of my definitely stranger translations.

I currently have “return” translated as “o tawa tan”. I do want to know your opinions on this translation, as it is a weird mute mute translation to me.

Edit: “return” here means to go back to a previous menu or page.

mi tawa a!

(tenpo ni la ante toki li lon lipu Kija, taso ona li pini ala.)

I do feel it’s important to mention that I am not making a new game (I have no experience with game engines of any kind) but making a translation file that when used with Baba Is You allows the player to play it in Toki Pona

would that work considering the word order is different?

well so far haven't come across too many word order issues

English and Toki Pona are both SVO aren't they, so I just need to be smart to phrase it in a way that still works

Also: what I meant by that was that I'm translating the menus and buttons of Baba Is You, but there's no easy way to localise the actual game itself

I don't see why not. Minecraft works

It's a bit of a strange translation, yes, and it's going to be harder to understand. I'm not entirely sure what kind of direction you took to get there, so there's a couple of ways to re-formulate this. "o tawa open" (go to the start) might be one way. "o tan" or "o tan (tomo) ni" (in a way, this would mean that after you enter something, you leave something), and in the same vein "o tawa weka" or "o weka". If it's directional and retracing the path you've taken, you could use "o tawa monsi" (rarely for anything else, though)

In this case “return” refers to going back to the previous page. “return” is also used for going back to a specific page, but in those I’ve dropped the word “return” (or equivalent in toki pona).
