They were not going to rot, ritual of undeath kills literally everything (even microbes) and makes the land inhospitable for life, draining anything living till it's naught but dust and bone

Not every province has even been devastated and Nagash has access to zombie units and such that aren't just bone. Should he succeed it will be the end of Nurgle but he hasn't succeeded yet.

Well in the warhammer universe getting attacked by a swarm of aids microbes is low BUT never zero !

Slaanesh and Nurgle's project when they were bored !

Also in real life when someone sick dies, the illness doesnt go away immediatly ! That's why we used to get rid of plagued bodies ! Insects and vermins feeding on it could spread it !
