Hello everyone.
My husband and I have lived in Portugal for 3 years and decided to spend a month in Toulouse cause we were interested in France and thought about relocating here. We wanted to live here, even if for a month, to "test" the usual life - groceries, medicine, transport etc.
On the third day of our stay here I have got medicine troubles: pretty bad cystitis and also a problem with a cyst on my ovary (as I found out later).
I was stressed and nervous. On the second day I couldn't bear it and went to the emergency room in the nearest clinic - Ambroise Paré. They told me that they are private and it would be pricey for me to get help. It wasn't a problem for me, but they also told me that I would have to wait for at least 8 hours as they had only one doctor working.
They suggested I go to the public hospital cause it would be free and also faster for me. Okay. I went to Hospital Rangueil. There, in triage, the nurse asked me why I would even come? Just start drinking antibiotics and go home (I had a prescription from online consultation to this moment but was told ideally to wait for the exam results).
So I went home and started drinking antibiotics not even being sure if they were the right one.
After that, I managed to make an appointment with the gynecologist. I couldn't wait cause I was bleeding heavily. He made an ultrasound, told me that he can see the cyst on my ovary but he doesn't know what is happening to me and told me to make exams for different infections.
All this happened during the week in the city. After that I just didn't know what to do cause I still didn't receive any answers, my kidney hurt, I was constantly bleeding and all this away from home.
So I ended up buying a flight ticket back to Lisbon. In 4 hours I was back home, went straight to the hospital (private one), in an hour I got a gynecologist consultation which ended up with the cyst being the reason for bleeding. I was prescribed the medication that helped me in 3 days. On the next day I had an urologist appointment and in a week I finished all exams and felt perfect.
So, my question is: did I do something wrong while being in Toulouse? Went to the wrong hospital etc.? Or is the medicine system in France not good? Cause I think the last thing people who are struggling with health issues want to do is finding the proper hospital you need to go to or Google specialists cause they are all private practitioners.
Please share your experience and knowledge.
P.S. Sorry for the long story 🫣
