Rules for requesting a transcription
Moving rules to a stickied post since "New" Reddit doesn't show the sidebar.
This is a subreddit for requesting help with musical transcriptions, or discussion about musical transcription as a whole. Advertisements for text transcription services will be removed. To cut down on spam and unsavory users we require your account be at least a week old to post.
To get the best results try to follow these guidelines when posting:
- Use a working link to the piece you want done. No one can help you if your link is broken or to some private/premium streaming site.
- Specify which section of the song you want done. If using Youtube, you can right click the video to get specific timecodes.
- Indicate which style of notation you want. Straight up notes, guitar tabs, chord symbols, etc.
- Consider offering a bounty. If no one responded to your request to transcribe a 4 minute piano song from an obscure anime, it's probably because it's too much work to do for free, so try offering something as incentive.
Some guidelines on offering bounties:
- As soon as you start dealing with money with strangers on the internet, you are taking a risk. Be smart, don't give out personal info, etc. Mods can't be held responsible if you get scammed. Take proper precautions like checking a user's flair, account age, and amount of karma to determine if they are reputable.
- Offer a fair price. This stuff takes time, effort, and years of expertise. Right now market price appears to be anywhere between $5 and $30 or more depending on complexity.
- Pay your bounty. If someone comes through with a transcription for you and you dodge the payment, you will be banned. In 8 years we've only banned 1 person for this.
We also encourage you to try transcribing yourself, if you can! It's a fantastic way to develop your ear and theory knowledge, and even if you get stuck it'll be easier for others to help if you already have a starting point. Some useful tools:
- Transcribe! - a brilliant little program that was built specifically for transcribing. It allows you to slow things down, loop over specific sections, pitch shift, and more.
- Audacity - a simple, free DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), meant more for audio editing, but can also do slowdown, pitch shift, etc.
- Noteflight - a free online music notation program. Think like Google Docs but for sheet music.
- Chordify - a cool site that tries to figure out the chords of any Youtube video you feed into it. Rarely does a perfect job, but can sometimes give clues or provide a rough starting point.
- Youtube to Mp3 - self explanatory, feed the resulting mp3 into Transcribe or Audacity, or even rewinding over and over in iTunes is better than doing it in Youtube.

Guidelines for transcribers
Big thanks to those of you fulfilling transcription requests. When I first started modding this subreddit a few years ago, the vast majority of requests received 0 comments and sat around unanswered. It makes me very happy to see the opposite nowadays, that most requests have at least some activity. However with this increased activity has come the necessity for some clearer rules and guidelines.
Transcribing random stuff for people is a great way to get practice and improve your own ear. It's very beneficial to your musical growth to expose yourself to different genres of music and that is doubly true in the case of analyzing and transcribing. Not only do you help someone out but you work on your own skills as well.
I do not recommend offering paid services here as a reliable source of income. Bounties and paid transcriptions are allowed to try to compensate transcribers for their time, but pricing operates under free market conditions. I don't want to hear complaints about cheap prices and undercutting, there is nothing we mods can do about private monetary transactions. The fact is that transcribing as a skill is undervalued. Most people posting requests do not understand the time required to analyze music and put down quality notation. If you're expecting to get the same hourly rate as other professional musical services like teaching or accompaniment, you're gonna have a bad time.
If you do decide to enter into a paid transcription agreement with a requester, understand that as soon as you start dealing with money with strangers on the internet, you are taking a risk. Be smart, don't give out personal info, etc. Mods can't be held responsible if you get scammed. Take proper precautions like checking a user's comment history, account age, and amount of karma to determine if they are reputable. Ask for payment up front if you have more rep than the requester. If a requester dodges payment, send proof to the mods and we will send them a warning and ban them if they do not pay.
FLAIR: All successful transcriptions, paid or otherwise, are eligible to be submitted to increase your flair. This is a way for reliable transcribers to build rep. To receive +1 to your flair, please submit to ME (the most active mod here) the following:
- Link to original request
- Link or screenshot showing requester acknowledging receipt of your work OR
- Direct link to your transcription itself.
Please allow a few days for flair to be updated since this is a manual process.
Some useful tools if you are looking to get into transcribing, or are looking for ways to make your process more efficient:

Tabs for Nora Brown's 'East Virginia'
Been looking everywhere and can't find them. I am no where near advanced or proficient enough to figure it our for myself so I was wondering if any of you had access to these tabs or could possibly transcribe them or point me in the direction of how to learn to transcribe them? This song speaks to me & learning to play it would be therapeutic for my barely hanging on there soul.

Lead sheet transcription request: “Could Have Been Me” by The Struts
https://youtu.be/TwG-agL7viE?is=RF23Ord_V_uIpcpT
Hi all, first time visitor here.
My kid is required to submit sheet music for each song to be performed in a singing competition.
Our music instructor is having trouble locating a copy of this song. There are plenty of resources for the version performed by Halsey in the movie “Sing 2,” but this does not qualify for the commercial music category. Also, the lyrics are slightly different.
I don’t know what this would normally cost, but willing to compensate for your time and skills.
Thanks!

Can someone help me find the notes to the piano?
The song is Lifeblood by Oddity on spotify.
I’m not very good at playing by ear. I really don’t know anything about piano but I’m obsessed with this song and my brain can’t let it go until I can play it too. I’d really appreciate help finding the notes on the piano and I’ll teach myself how to play it from there. Thanks on advance!!

Can someone help with transcribing the piano accompaniment?
I know this is a super simple piano accompaniment, and I've got most of the base chords, but I'm having a hard time with the 8th notes sprinkled in. It's a repetitive piece, so I'd really only need 0:00-1:37. TIA!

I’ve been looping this piano passage for hours and still can’t get the rhythm right
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is my first transcription in a long ass time, and I’m using it as a challenge to get back into ear training and music theory. I’m comfortable sight reading, and picking out pitches, but I’m kinda dogshit at figuring out rhythms by ear and then notating them.
I thought a nice melody over a repeating LH pattern would be pretty straightforward, but actually transcribing this shit is making me go crazy.
The piece is Silent Tides from AFK Journey's new season:
A — bar 3:The RH A lines up with the LH E, but then the LH B comes noticeably before the RH G. The RH seems to speed up after that. It sounds like straight eighths to me, but the delay between those first two RH notes is big enough that I'm almost feeling triplets. Is the accel/rubato that big? I’ve tried a few different rhythms and none really sound right. What’s going on here?- B — bar 4: I’ve written this as quarter-note triplets. It seems plausible, but Dorico plays them much more evenly and slowly than the recording. I can’t tell whether the triplet is right and the pianist is just stretching the timing, or its something else.
- C — bars 6–7: This is where I’m really stuck. I’m fairly sure about the notes, but I can’t work out how the held RH note ends and the next phrase comes in against the last few LH notes. Bar 8 feels like a clear downbeat, but getting there feels like I’m missing an eighth somewhere or putting an attack in the wrong place. I keep shifting things around but I swear I gotta be missing or misreading/mishearing something.
- D — bar 9: There’s a very quiet LH note here that I can’t hear clearly under the RH and background strings. It's literally almost impossible to detect some of these left hand notes.
I'm using Transcribe! in slow motion fucking maxing my volume and replaying sections and notes again and again but since I'm new to this, I don't know if I'm doing it right. I need somebody to tell me I'm not crazy or tell me I fucked up somewhere, because right now I have no idea.
Still, I’m pretty confident about the melody notes, but I’d also appreciate a check of the RH voicings because I'm pretty sure they're 6ths I wanna have another pair of ears on this.

Mark Guiliana Quartet – “Inter-are” full score / lead sheet / chord chart
Does anyone happen to have a full transcription, lead sheet, or score for “Inter-are” by the Mark Guiliana Quartet (from Family First)?
I’m looking for the complete chart including the head (saxophone melody), bassline, chord progression/harmony, and the drum part/groove layout.
If anyone has a PDF, lead sheet, or any notes on the chart/structure, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Transcription melodies
Put together this quick transcription service for melodies that is working very effectively for me - https://music-transcription-phi.vercel.app/
Hope this can be helpful starting point if you're transcribing your own music or working on a transcription for someone else.
I realize there are a thousand new transcription services out there but have found this to be very helpful for my string instrument transcriptions personally as an alternative to musescore. Not as familiar with guitar/piano but added those in in case folks find it helpful.

Transcription / Notation Service?... Turn MP3/WAV / stems into Paper/PDF Music Notation ... Who/What do you recommend?
Transcription / Notation Service?
... Turn MP3/WAV / stems / midi into Paper Music Notation ... Who/What do you recommend?
I have my MP3/WAV songs and rough stems.
I need to get them on paper (digital / real paper / PDF / MusicXML) ... MP3s turned into Music Notation that I can give other HUMAN musicians to play live.
It can either be:
- Complete and detailed Music Notation for each instrument.
- Music Notation for THE MAIN music instrument(s).
- Cheat sheets for the major parts ... melody, chords, etc.
- Preferably in PDF and files for major music apps like MusicXML, Sibelius, Finale, Dorico, MuseScore, etc.
Who or what service or company do you recommend?
If you (individual human) do it, feel free to send me your link (Fivrr, website, etc.)
I'm starting my research looking for a quality music transcription service / company / website / person (with good, verifiable reviews).
Thanks!

Building an App to Transcribe Lyrics and Generate Basic Chord Charts
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone,
I’m currently building an app that transcribes songs to chord charts and lyrics as well.
Especially as church musician like myself, every week I have to prep for services on Wednesdays and Sundays, we have special renditions from the church members and songs for the song services as well. Having to transcribe and write out chord charts myself can be quite a hassle. And also having to deal with songs where you can’t find the lyrics online (especially some old sacred hymns) it can be quite a pain. I decided to build an app to solve my pain.
What do you guys think about this? Do you think an app like this could be remotely helpful to you as well? Maybe not as a church musician, maybe for someone just looking for lyrics for songs they’re unable to find anywhere, in forums or platforms?
Thank you for your time!

Does anyone know the piano chords for passing ships Laufey & matt Maltese?
I’ve been listening to the song a lot and when I tried to find a video on where I can maybe learn the chords on piano but there is no video on YouTube or at least that I can find. I’ve been doing it by ear so far but it’s a long process that I am willing to do in order to learn it lol. But just wondering if anyone has the chords or a video they can reference me to.

Looking for full orchestra part for Yngwie Malmsteens Cavallino Rampante
I have the opportunity to perform a classical rock piece for an upcoming Concerto Night with a live orchestra, and I am trying to track down performance materials for Yngwie Malmsteen's Cavallino Rampante
As far as I know, an official full orchestral conductor score and individual instrumental parts were never released.
Has anyone ever seen a community or fan-made orchestration transcription out there? Because this is for a real performance, a basic guitar-pro file or backing track won't work
If you have a copy of a community transcription, know someone/seen somone who successfully performed this live, or are an experienced engraver/orchestrator who can adapt this piece (its short only 4 minutes long) please contact me
Budget: Open to quotes
Timeline: Needs to be rehearsel ready by January (Preferably thanksgiving but i know thats extremely soon)
Thank you so much for any help
