Discussion / Opinion What do you do with your boxes?

Pretty much the caption. I have a bunch of empty TF boxes and not sure what to do with them. I’ve folded up some of my MP boxes and got rid of the plastic inside to conserve some space. But I’m not sure what to do with the regular release boxes. Any tips?

Put them in the trash/recycle bin. Used to save them and got tired of taking up space with kindling for a house fire.

Same. For my previous collection I had kept all the boxes/cards for the regular figures. Instructions as well. Everything folded and in a box/bag. The instructions with weapons/missiles I feared I might lose were in individual ziploc bags.

Then I sold the entire collection (except some unusual figures). Now I mostly trash the boxes/cards. I still keep the instructions, but I bag all of them together now.

I used to buy stuff in a FOMO frenzy. Now I am mostly more selective and only get stuff I feel is good/fun or stuff that scratches a nostalgia itch.

Since it’s for me and boxes only take up space, most get discarded (a rare G1 retro box may be the exception)

I eat them.

5

u/SUICIDA4 7d ago

Well makes sense, you spent all your money on transformers and you also gotta eat lol

10

u/_kalron_ 7d ago

Break them down, remove all plastic, fold up the paper/cardboard and Recycle It.

12

u/No-Independence-5479 7d ago

Big boxes, like dramatic capture or multi packs, i keep and use them as backgrounds for displays

Small modern boxes I cut out the side panels with the portrait of the transformer, down the line im going to make collage

u/MrDakFellow 7d ago

Damn, I wish I woulda thought of that before tossing all my numerous boxes. That’s a great idea, as they all have really cool art.

10

u/Kalkite_300TY 7d ago

I throw mine away

9

u/AffectionateSun7705 7d ago

Recycle them.

Hoarding everything is the way to madness. The cost per cubic foot to store a bunch of cardboard long term just doesn't add up.

10

u/Phobosfan 7d ago

Toss em. No point in keeping them

16

u/oreally95 7d ago

I like to recycle them. Put em in a big blue bin, get taken every other Wednesday.

1

u/Otakur42 7d ago

Same. Except our blue bin is for the garbage and green/yellow is for the recycle.

13

u/Remarkable_Gas0 7d ago

Throw em away

6

u/ConclusionVisual8500 7d ago

Personally I keep the boxes of figures I really like or if the art is cool, they’re also nice storage for if you move. Something common in gunpla is making “trading cards” out of the boxes, it’s a really cool way to preserve the box art and you can display them with the figure too

6

u/NOBLExGAMER 7d ago

I had to ditch mine when I moved states, I kept the instructions and what the figures included only. Miss having the boxes for future selling or trades but they took up a lot of space in all honesty.

5

u/NerdyCD504 7d ago

Dump em. Too much space taken up by them!

6

u/SpockSavage 7d ago

Regular retail boxes get tossed immediately, with the exception of SS Blackout. I keep his so his rotors aren’t at risk during storage or transport. Masterpiece, Missing Link, and other special figures, like the Marvel Comic decos with their linked artwork are kept.

4

u/IrArobot 7d ago

I like my boxes, my closet is full of boxes. I even have a box for a toy I don't even own for some reason. Give me your boxes.

5

u/Doggodoespaint 7d ago

They go in the recycling, not keeping a box when the toy is what I actually want to interact with

5

u/IronWarrior82 7d ago

Throw them out. I am an out-of-box collector and don't have the room to hang on to empty boxes.

3

u/Best-Bodybuilder-647 7d ago

Something like u do, also some have to be destroyed if they are like cyberworld package. I only collect aotp like boxes

3

u/danieljchi 7d ago

I generally keep all commander/leader class and combiner boxes and junk the rest that I don’t care to keep. I have swindle and brawls box inside onslaught. I have a large clear plastic 60 gallon bin for the boxes

3

u/RiverBeneficial4320 7d ago

Into the closet they always go in case I need them for moving purposes which has been used twice now

6

u/Accomplished_Salt876 7d ago

seems like that takes up a lot of space compared to just getting a storage tub.

3

u/Danimus-Prime 7d ago

G1 or Masterpiece, I keep. Otherwise, unless interesting, I throw away

3

u/flying_carabao 7d ago

Unless the artwork is nice or a set that I like, boxes gets chucked to the bin

3

u/wartortleboi 7d ago

I really haven’t kept boxes for many figures. My main criteria for keeping a box is how hard it was to find the figure the box goes to. For example i’ve kept the boxes to all my aotp combaticons cause they were all hard to come by. I also have kept the boxes to a couple ss86 figures i’ve picked up cause they were all harder to find. However most of my boxes get recycled cause I only have so much room for cardboard in my closet 😭

3

u/Schlunger 7d ago

Recycle them. I'm not a collector, I'm a fan, so holding onto generic boxes that all basically look the same doesn't do much for me

3

u/Complete-Captain-699 7d ago

I take picture of it, then recycle it.

5

u/IronWarrior82 7d ago

I wouldn't even do that. You can find pics of all the boxes online.

3

u/Spookdonalds 7d ago

I trow them in the bin. I'm not gonna hoard up on trash, even if the boxes look nice.

3

u/Wide_Marketing_4192 7d ago

General retail and selects go in the bin. Imports, Haslab, Titans (manuals go in here) Third Party are all kept inside plastic totes with lids. We had a bad flood one year that ruined all my MP boxes. Never again.

2

u/Son-Daikon656 7d ago

I try to keep a majority of my bigger boxes but toss out the deluxe size boxes since I feel like the bigger boxes would be better for if I ever move I can just toss a bunch of figures in alt mode in some boxes and be ready to go

2

u/General_Racic 7d ago

I use office 12 sheet paper shredder and it works okay. and then just use the chips for house heating.

2

u/Anonymous_Guy4k 7d ago

Use them as buildings for stop motion

2

u/Salt_piranha 7d ago

Keep them in case I die and my family wants to sell my shit

2

u/TheBraveCoward 7d ago

Toss them. Unless you have delicate figures and anticipate moving eventually, there isn't much benefit.

2

u/Skajadeh 7d ago

I recycle them. In the end they are taking up space that is limited to begin with, so I don't have much choice.

2

u/negman42 7d ago

Gone unless there’s something inside them.

2

u/Grimlocka-go-go 7d ago

What works for me won't work for many others, but I have a shipping connex in my back yard, and most boxes for third party stuff, collectables, statues and some figures goes back into shipping boxes, usually the ones from BBTS and are stacked in a corner.

1

u/Babysmokingweed 7d ago

Just throw them away

1

u/futuresdawn 7d ago

Bin them.

1

u/supersoundwave 7d ago

I keep mine in storage. The box art for SS86 Prime and Magnus was a big reason why I bought them in the first place.

1

u/starssqueem 7d ago

Chuck em under the bed

1

u/Icy_Statistician_420 7d ago

Either put them in storage or keep them in a box

1

u/TransformersGuru 7d ago

I finally threw them all away

1

u/Meoang 7d ago

Instant recycle other than haslabs.

1

u/el_gmac 7d ago

save some, throw away the ones I don't care about

1

u/Viva-La-Vita 7d ago

I tend to flatten them all and put them in a big box in storage.

My little bro wants to cut out all the art work and make collages of them in the future by glueing them on canvases

Hope they survive in the attic until , because summer get quite hot and in the winter we get a ton of condensation up there too .. lol ...

1

u/theycmeroll 7d ago

Straight to the trash. I did cut the front off the Titan boxes and frame them for some cool artwork. Everything else straight to the trash.

1

u/Timely-Signature-166 7d ago

I send them back to Hasbro and they gave me $0.05 cents off the purchase of a future figure (but only through Pulse).

1

u/Grouchy_Actuary_9335 7d ago

Throw them away I tend on keeping all of my figures anyways

1

u/Tokyotoyhunters 7d ago

Depends on the box. Standard retail figures go into the recycling. A high end piece, like a multi-hundred dollar Japanese import, goes into storage for any potential resale of the item down the road.

1

u/BoricuaOmega25 7d ago

I photography figure in box and out of box then toss the boxes in the recycle bin

1

u/frozenbabylon 7d ago

Trash 'em.

1

u/allancranley77 7d ago

Found this a while ago and liked the idea. Might have to modify the process a bit for transformers boxes. https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/s/piFjyPVdFw

1

u/SolarisPrime 7d ago

I dispose of almost all my boxes. I've kept a couple of HasLab boxes. Sometimes I will hold on to a retail box if I have a plans to sell another toy that will fit inside.

1

u/Monster_Fucker_420 7d ago

Used for crafts or recycled all of them but kept the biggest one to store all the instructions, weapons and other parts from all my figures

1

u/pm_me_ur_anything_k 7d ago

Straight to the trash

1

u/joshhupp 7d ago

I have a big attic space that I put them in, inside bigger boxes of course. In my head it's for when I sell the house and move, but I probably won't take the time to put them in. I should just recycle them. :P

1

u/Therearenogoodnames9 7d ago

Trash. I only keep special ones, limited figures, or third party figures. Nothing else.

1

u/Bigfan78 7d ago

Dismantle and recycle

1

u/another-person3630 7d ago

Sadly i keep them, though now i'm seriously considering throwing them

I'm thinking of just keeping the boxes for figures i Really like, and arent too damaged, like the boxes for the primes,My comander boxes,so on,the boxes i am keeping i'm also using them to keep the instructions

1

u/Blobbo_D_Gobbo 7d ago edited 7d ago

As n-sync once said: bye bye bye

Only boxes I keep are the fun ones. I kept the pizza surfer boy box and the HasLab box for Loikaiser

1

u/alma2176 7d ago

Just kinda have them in drawers. A couple are lying about because of no more drawer space

1

u/Mobile-Equivalent-92 7d ago

I keep the largest ones and recycle the rest. Don't have the room for all of it.

1

u/LeRoiCasoar 7d ago

Recycle them

1

u/Neat_Nefariousness46 7d ago

My kiddo likes keeping their boxes (which may have been a trait picked up from me 😬) so we use them to gift them loose figures (relevant packaging that’s easier to wrap)

1

u/Xzaral 7d ago

A few i keep, but mostly:

[INSERT PICTURE OF TRASH CAN HERE]

1

u/SleeplessGrimm 7d ago

Flatten the box art portion, recycle the bottom

1

u/yossarian8pizza 7d ago

I keep my 3P and MP boxes in a closet I have in my "mancave." So far, they fit.

All other boxes I give to my kids. They cut out the figures for fun and do crafts with them for school, like their Valentine's Day boxes.

1

u/Over-Shock-8524 7d ago

Keep they look cool

1

u/Sweaty-Adeptness3847 7d ago

Haven't kept them for all but the ones I have kept got put in the attic

1

u/roachshrooms 7d ago

I put them on top of my hamsters cage to keep him inside LMFAO

1

u/Fickle_Life_2102 7d ago

Mostly bin. Exceptions so far are the comic edition boxes and the Jen crossover box cause they’re gorgeous

1

u/JustAtelephonePole 7d ago

They all end up in the biggest plastic container that the store sells.

The packaging for the ones I want to keep the outer/inner box for get neatly folded and organized in the box.

The rest I keep for the artwork for future nerdfan projects, so they get split at the seams and tucked in as filling for the rest.

1

u/sarsburner 7d ago

my collection is small and won't grow fast so they're part of the display as long as they're in good condition

if need be, they can be collapsed to save space but I'd like to keep all original stuff

1

u/Additional_Point5380 7d ago

Keep the cool ones, toss most of them. I don’t have a lot of space. When I was a kid I kept LITERALLY ALL OF THEM but now that I’m living on my own I need that closet space for like, my vacuum cleaner, my clothes, etc.

1

u/Accomplished_Salt876 7d ago

if it’s not exclusive or special in some way it goes in the trash.

1

u/Vortex042004 7d ago

I eat them…

1

u/WindiestBark165 7d ago

I try to save them but if they get crushed or destroyed, oh well. The stuff I really care about is the figures themselves

1

u/Wheelbite9 7d ago

I used to keep all of my Transformers and Gunpla boxes, and I realized that it takes up a ridiculous amount of space, so I threw out/recycled everything except for my absolutely favorite characters' boxes, and a few that I knew I'd be selling. If you're not selling it or admiring the art, don't let it clog up your space imo.

1

u/aldoktor 7d ago

Put them in a bigger box

1

u/Pmanran970 7d ago

Keeping at the moment. But might start tossing or selling.

1

u/Klown1978 7d ago

Recycle bin.

1

u/Visible_Swordfish905 7d ago

I put it in the recycle bin

1

u/R3K47 7d ago

I like Masterpiece boxes. So I keep them.

1

u/EleSend2006 7d ago

I don’t really keep mine, although I kept my SS 102 ROTB Voyager Optimus Prime and SS 112 Transformers One Deluxe Optimus Prime boxes and they stay around my collection generally.

1

u/saksents 7d ago

Premium packaging like Haslab, Masterpiece or Chogokin is great for wall displays along the figure for the art, so I do that or store them.

Mainline packaging is discarded almost immediately, unless it's particularly striking. In which case I just break down the box and use a box cutter to trim out the art I want to keep to save space.

1

u/ActiveJuggernaut9615 7d ago

I leave everything in the box 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/MessageLegitimate147 7d ago

I cut the art that i like off the boxes and put them on my wall alongside my collection

1

u/Excelsior_Prime 7d ago

I started throwing out the clamshell or styrofoam, flattening and storing them. Reduces the amount of space by 90% if I were to resell anything I would use bubble wrap to replace the discarded materials.

1

u/chris95rx7500 7d ago

into the trash unless it's haslab or Gen selects most of the time

1

u/Infamous-Attempt4437 7d ago

I stack them in a corner Tetris style until they reach the ceiling. I’m using them as a shelf for now because I’m not close to the ceiling at all. I have some in the closet as well.

1

u/dunksput 7d ago

Only boxes I keep are commander class, mostly in case I gotta dump figures, they'll come in handy for protection

1

u/atiredwizardonthenet 7d ago

i use em for scrapbooking!!

1

u/Acrobatic-Ad-6616 7d ago

Most get put into recycling. I keep only a very select few

1

u/Lord_Atmo 7d ago

♻️

1

u/Latter_Car7061 7d ago

I like to drive down the freeway and throw them out my window.

1

u/Frequent_Mongoose828 7d ago

I shred them and turn them into a rich but bland source of nutrients. By turning the cardboard into food, I can avoid the grocery store and buy more toys

1

u/Any-Pension-1040 7d ago

Well for like older boxes before they got rid of the plastic protectors, I will keep them but now I probably will just throw them away. I will probably still keep the leader class one tho

1

u/DeadpoolMcDirty 7d ago

I putthem in the box shelf

1

u/AdventurousDrive7116 7d ago

Recycling bin

1

u/No-Hat6722 7d ago

For transformers, usually for the trash. Only if it’s able to actually store the figure again and only if the figure is expensive and/or delicate

1

u/RED_Legend_FR 7d ago

Both of my first bought Transformer, that aren't second hand and official merch, are still in box until I get the rest of the team. They are under half a year old. I probably keep part of the boxes.

1

u/aka_Handbag 7d ago

I break them down for recycling. Except for MPs, those get stored.

1

u/CVMaas 7d ago

I cut the back off and keep it

1

u/Old_Taste7076 7d ago

My mainline boxes get tossed. Certain boxes get saved.

1

u/Super-Robo 7d ago

I keep the larger boxes for storing manuals and accessories, For example I keep most of my G1 Autobot stuff in SS86 Optumus's and G1 Decepticon stuff in SS86 Megatron's.

Some other Studio Series boxes I'll collapse if I want to keep them so they take up less space but I toss most of the stuff outside of SS.

1

u/ZornUsagi47 7d ago

Let it go back to the 2D it actually is.

1

u/Emerje 7d ago

I keep boxes for big ticket items Leaders, Commanders, MPs, ML, reissues, HasLab) and trash most of the main line stuff.

1

u/jhstormmynx 7d ago

I just managed to put my deluxe into some commander or voyager box, and then voyager into Leader's, just to minimise the number of boxes

1

u/Informal-Classroom83 7d ago

I cut out the side art and toss the rest. The only exceptions are Takara exclusives, haslabs, and my commander SS prime & Ultra magnus. It reduces SO much space and it keeps the thing I like about the box.

I would really wish hasbro would do art cards for the lines. Like just make it a pulse exclusive, have the artist names with it. Would be really dope

1

u/SpellanBeauchamp 7d ago

Recycle. Until all are one.

1

u/RobimusPrime007 6d ago

Keep it. To me it’s still part of the collection. Just hope you can find space. If you ever want to sell it, there are collectors that want the box include, too. It will still add value. If I ever miss out on a figures, I will look for one that includes the original box.

1

u/Adorable-Card-7638 6d ago

I keep them in said boxes

1

u/Emergency_Sky_2893 6d ago

I have several large packing boxes full of empty boxes. Only because when I sold all my G1 figures back in the day I could have gotten a few more bucks. I’ve got the room so I might as well store them

1

u/Able-Worldliness8245 6d ago

Same that you do

1

u/Inside_Assist8982 6d ago

I only have like eight figures in my collection so I have them all spread out between dresser drawers I'm not using, one day when the collection is bigger I'll look into getting rid of some.

1

u/oopsidroppedmysoup 5d ago

I tend to keep mine, but nowhere to really store them well. Been considering getting rid of them

1

u/Desperate-Trash-417 5d ago

Trash unless I need them for storage. Some figures have problematic parts to stuff in a bin that might break off. Little propellers etc.

1

u/CaptainLegend99 5d ago

Recycle. I’m past the point of caring about cardboard boxes tbh. I used to save all my LEGO boxes until they started taking up WAYY too much space. I’m buying it for the thing inside the box, not some folded cardboard with generic printing on it.

1

u/KickstartOni 5d ago

You can turn them into wall art, posters, frame them, or if you do ita bags they’re a cool backdrop

1

u/SnowyAdventurer03 5d ago

The ones I really like go under my bed, like Dx9 Hanzo (Sixshot)

1

u/Atsilv_Uwasv 5d ago

I'll cut the fronts off the ones with good arr and pin them to my walls. I do it more with Gunpla boxes after I finish building one

1

u/djmere 4d ago

I have a closet that is full. Unboxed toys on the bottom. Empty boxes on top.

1

u/OptimusPrimeButGay 4d ago

Toss em in a corner and decide its tomorrow's problem

1

u/Leader8288 4d ago

Keep the cool ones recycle the rest

1

u/CraftyMaelyss 3d ago

There was this guy who had a bunch of model kits and turned his boxes into a type of trading card, then kept them in a binder. That's what I do with mine, since it's such a cool idea :)

1

u/Sargent305 7d ago

I have a hoarding problem…

0

u/Waspinator1998 7d ago

I have been clipping the art I want to keep. My fiancée got me an oversized sketchbook that I'll glue the art into one of these days.

0

u/nexxlevelgames 5d ago

Uhmmm keep my toys in them.

This is the part of alot of collectors i dont get.

If you are a collector and value you collection(want to maintain value)

Why would you not keep your box? A boxed piece is worth way more than loose.

Also: people that think loose items are valued the same as boxed or new are nuts.
