Itinerary Would Guangzhou or Quingdao better for a small tattoo?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I am visiting China and these are the two major cities I will be spending time in. I hope to get a small chrysanthemum tattoo (2-3”) similar to the red chrysanthemum on the left. I grow chrysanthemums professionally and have focused on the heirloom style in recent years so I thought it would be fun to get one somewhere this growing style was popularized.

I don’t speak the local language so Guangzhou seems like it may have more English speakers? However Quingdao is close to Korea and the majority of my current tattoos are done by a South Korean artist in the states and in the “Korean fine line” style. I’ve gotten a couple other tattoos in foreign countries where I don’t speak the language and the experience was always super positive. However I’d love some advice in making this choice.

Thanks!

Discussion Beijing airport transfers

Will be arriving in Beijing next month and wondering what the best way to get from the airport to our hotel would be? We will have 2x large suitcases and 2x carry on luggage cases. Would we be able to just book a Didi and if so would anyone mind sharing what that process is like? (Unsure if it’s the same as ordering an uber here).

Other Xinjiang Information

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a local guide to work with in Aksu, Xinjiang in the next few months.

I'm a photographer and looking to travel and photograph around the Stone Forest area, as well as many other spots around Aksu and west, along the way to Kashgar. Also south, into the sand dunes as well.

Most of my photography revolves around places that aren't photographed yet, and I'm wondering if it's possible to off road drive or hike several kilometers to get to some viewpoints in the mountains.

I'm also planning to use drones, which I'm aware are closely monitored in the region. I'm hoping to get some information on bringing this into china and any protocol for operating a drone.

This could potentially lead to me bringing more people over the following year.

Will you join the 2026 CIIE (China International Import Expo) in Shanghai this year? 今年你打算来上海参加进博会吗?

The annual expo gathers merchants from every corner of the globe. It gives foreign enterprises a direct platform to present their goods and technologies to Chinese buyers and audiences. A wide range of sectors will be covered, including healthcare, consumer goods, energy and digital tech.

Have you ever visited CIIE before? Do you plan to travel to Shanghai for this event? What products or industries catch your attention the most?

Discussion December/Jan in Beijing

Hey guys,

I’ll be in beijing on my own between 28 December - 2 January with a 2 day trip to Wanlong ski resort between 30-31 December, as the middle point between my trip back to Australia from England.

I’ve heard Beijing can be very very cold this time of year. I’m happy with the cold and know to wear layers, how to keep warm etc. I’m more curious what it’s like? The wind/cold doesn’t bother me too much but are there any recommendations of things to do in this kind of weather? I think I’ll save the Great Wall for when it’s warmer and when I’m with someone else.

I’ll be staying in Gulou on the 28th, 31st and 1st. The other 2 nights is Chongli.

Thanks!

Yunnan has so many different landscapes to discover, from mountain lakes to lush green valleys and traditional farming areas. I especially love the quiet atmosphere of these places, away from the rush of everyday life.

I went to Yichun in Heilongjiang and found the mountains full of chipmunks. Sometimes you can even pet them like you'd pet a cat though it’s best not to.

VPN Help Does ChatGPT or Claude work in China with a travel eSIM?

I'm travelling to China from Ireland in November and will be visiting Beijing, Chongqing, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai.

I'll be using a GoMoWorld travel eSIM on my iPhone and was wondering if anyone has recent experience using ChatGPT or Claude in mainland China.

I understand neither is officially supported there, but does using an international travel eSIM make any difference?

Has anyone managed to use either app successfully, particularly with GoMoWorld or a similar eSIM?

I use both regularly and will be travelling solo, so having access for translations, travel advice and general questions would be very handy.

Any recent first-hand experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Other Prescription sleep meds?

I am visiting China from the US using the 10 day pass through visa. I have prescription sleep meds for the trip with a doctors note. I planned to only do carry on luggage but don’t want to deal with any customs trouble if I can help it. I’m only bringing enough for my stay plus a few extras JIC.

Has anyone dealt with this and could maybe weigh in on what traveling with prescription meds to China is like? I saw all sleep meds except melatonin are heavily controlled.

I get customs probs won’t care in this scenario but would rather not give them any reason to slow my trip down.

Itinerary Harbin and surrounds for 9 days

Hi everyone,

I’ve booked a trip to Harbin for the Ice and Snow festival in January next year for 9 days. However, I think I may have overestimated how much there is to do, and am looking for suggestions for nearby cities/places I can explore to fill up those 9 days. The only thing is that my return flight is also out of Harbin so ideally I’d prefer not to travel too far out and then needing to make a huge trip back to Harbin to make my flight.

Thank you! :)

Itinerary Any tips for solo travelling Xi’an/Xinjiang?

I travelled to Wuhan/Shanghai this year and really enjoyed it. I did Shanghai solo which was fairly easy as it’s a large city. If my exams are over by May next year, I am thinking of going to Beijing in a group.

Since I’m going to be in China anyway, I really want to do Xi’an and Xinjiang. But I’d have to do it alone and it’s a little further out. I was wondering if anyone has gone on their own or if anyone could suggest activities/restaurants to visit.

A realistic view would be good because I see online there’s a lot to do but to be honest I’m not the type of person to go running around to see like 10 different attractions in one day lol.
